(This is similar to a hospital employee violating HIPAA standards by revealing patient records to a private business owner, as it violates prison employee training and policies on confidentiality.) I am no longer a visitor at the prison (the last time I visited was over 16 months ago), and I have no criminal record of any kind myself (visiting someone who is incarcerated does not mean a visitor is themselves a dangerous or bad person in any way). Moreover, there is nothing in Washington State law or prison policy that forbids a person who has visited a WA State prison from being a customer at local businesses where prison staff are also customers. It is also highly unlikely that I as a smaller female would ever be directly paired with this large, tall, male correctional officer in a class setting. It is my understanding that in jiu jitsu, the philosophy is to practice humility and respect of others while on the mat, and to base treatment of each other on what happens on the mat, rather than on individual life histories. I feel the academy owner and lead instructor had a chance to teach his prison employee student what that means in this situation, yet he instead chose to discriminate against, humiliate, and discourage a new student. For that reason, I must give 100 Kilos a one-star review. Having a nice, pretty academy is not enough. The philosophy at the core of the martial art must also be demonstrated in every aspect of how the academy operates.

I was nervous on the drive up to the gym but felt reassured when everyone greeted me with a smile and welcomed me onto the mat. I only have 7 months of scattered training but could immediately distinguish the high level of instruction, knowledge, and class Prof. Nicolae Cury had established. His instructors hold the same high standards and are great at providing feedback specific to each participant. The class is diverse, with people from all walks of life: medical doctors, lawyers, professors, police officers, and sushi chefs. All are great rolling partners and there to help each other learn and grow. I highly recommend V7 to anyone interested in learning Brazilian Jiujitsu on the Palouse or visiting the area.

Professor Cury, the owner and head coach, was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. All the students were very welcoming. I highly recommend training here if you live in the Moscow/Pullman area, or are just passing through.
