Sarasa is a real gem. You don't need to go to downtown Boston to hear first rate classical music and at quite a bargain price (just $25 for general admission). The rotating roster of musicians are all professionals. Some, such as Elizabeth Blumenstock, Baroque violinist or Haldan Martinson (principal second violin of the Boston Symphony Orchestra) are local gems in their own right.
Sarasa concerts are held fall through spring at small, intimate venues (Harvard-Epworth in Harvard Yard and First Parish Church in Lexington) where you can meet the musicians afterwards at the reception. The 8pm Saturday concert means you can get dinner at Harvard Sq. beforehand. It makes a nice night out. The Lexington concerts are in the afternoon.
The group is also unique for doing outreach concerts at juvenile lockups for years and years and now also do residencies in which they work with the teens to make music together. Amazing classical music with heart, what else could you want? read more
