Walking into Sara's and you feel like you've stepped back in time. No frills, lots of clothes on racks, and curtains for changing room doors. They were very fast and got my 4 pairs of jeans pinned in no time. I got back all 4 pairs and they managed to match the thread colors for the hems perfectly as well as trimming the bottom of the cuffs. I hate excess material. Prices are higher than others and it takes them longer to finish than others, but otherwise, no other negative things to say. Recommended. read more

Here are photos of a puffy coat I purchased that was not warm enough for my liking...but I liked everything else about it....and I had a flannel/Fleece like material shirt with a hood that I never would wear... because it did not have any buttons or pockets...I was thinking, why did I get this...but then I thought...it might work if I could use it as a liner in my puffy coat, and the colors went well, so I took it to Sara's because he's altered things for me before and did an excellent job...And what to you know... when he finished....it looked like I purchased the coat that way....and the hood was detachable... look at it.......he did a magnificent job...to me he's the best in the city and I've been to several before I ever started having him make alterations to my clothes, now I wouldn't go anywhere else. And he doesn't take forever or charge a ARM & a LEG either! He's the best at what he does! I personally give him KUDOS because he deserves it!!! read more

I have never gotten anything altered and I found Sara's through Yelp. I had purchased an expensive bikini online for a vacation and waited too long to return it. The top fit bizarrely and I couldn't figure out the actual issue -- it didn't seem too small or too big but it just looked wrong. The gentleman who helped me was extremely professional and fast. He advised they'd have to sew visible darts which I agreed to as I had nothing to lose. I picked it up less than a week later and it was perfect -- they worked some type of magic and there aren't any visible seams. It's my favorite bathing suit now. I will go here from now on if I ever need anything altered. I figure if you can alter an ill-fitting designer bikini top that well they do anything! The price was shockingly great too. read more

My sister brought her wedding dress here for alterations. We came to this tailor on the recommendation of a friend, whose own wedding dress had been damaged by a different tailor and repaired here at Sara's Alterations many years ago--her repairs were done by the owner. The dress has simple, clean lines, and the alterations my sister needed were simple. During the first fitting, it became apparent that not only had Sara's Alterations damaged her dress, but they had also simply not followed directions. The tailor had promised five pickups; there were only three. The straps were uneven. The hem was uneven and sloppily done. The horsehair trim--one of my sister's favorite details on the dress--had been hemmed unevenly and there were many small holes along the seam line. There was excess horsehair fabric left adding to the sloppy appearance of this favored feature. A belt was adjusted and attached as requested, but not evenly placed/centered, adding to our dissatisfaction. Needless to say, my family was horrified. We attempted to bring the dress to another tailor for repair. Why would we trust this tailor a second time? However we were not able to find another tailor who was willing to correct someone else's mistakes; we were told this was more likely to ruin the dress further. So, if you choose to take your clothes to this tailor, be forewarned: there is a strong likelihood they will be damaged, and you will then struggle to find another tailor to help you pick up the pieces (we went all over Greensboro). My family returned to Sara's Alterations to discuss what could be done next. My mother requested that the owner (who had repaired the friend's dress) personally work on the dress; we did not want the other tailor, Mary, causing further damage. The owner informed us that he would not be able to do that, as he was leaving the country in a few days for two months. Mind you, this was after he admitted that the dress had indeed been damaged at the hands of his employee. I am a small business owner myself, and I was really surprised to hear that the owner was willing to walk away from such a huge misstep by one of his employees. Doesn't he know that people talk? The way I see it, he had a few days in which he could have chosen to correct his employee's errors and preserve the integrity of his business. But here we are. The second fitting was not much better than the first. While the really obvious mistakes from the first fitting had been fixed (the straps were even and the dress now had five pickups), the work overall was sloppy, and the horsehair detail my sister loved so much was a nightmare. The original horsehair was gone, as it had to be removed and replaced due to the sloppy work initially done. The horsehair Mary had replaced it with was extremely cheap looking, not at all like the original fabric. Frankly it would have been preferable if she had not replaced it at all (the bride's words, not mine). To top it all off, my family was charged $500 for this "service." We were originally quoted $550. When we pointed out that the dress had been damaged by Sara's Alterations, and to such a degree that it was not able to be restored to its original condition--not to mention the mental and emotional anguish this caused for my mother and sister, for whom this dress was an expense not taken lightly--the owner's son offered to take FIFTY dollars off of the charge. That's less than a 10% discount, folks--for a dress that was damaged, with alterations that bombed not once but twice. Last but not least, I heard from the tailor who I brought my own dress to, that she had another bride come in one week after my sister with a damaged dress from Sara's Alterations. She claims this bride had to replace her dress entirely. BE AWARE if you decide to use this tailor. read more

Wedding dress alterations are never cheap, so the $400 bill was about what I expected to pay (for a hem, sides brought in, boob pads added, strap replacement, and a repair to a small hole near the zipper). They were accommodating when I asked to come in for a second fitting so I could bring a friend for another set of eyes. The reason I can't give more than three stars is because one of the straps broke during my wedding. I had been wearing the dress for less than two hours when the stitch broke and I nearly flashed some of the guests. Since they replaced the straps, I would expect the stitches to hold. Very disappointed that $400 alterations failed after only two hours of wear. read more

I usually need to get alterations done to my finer clothes. Since moving to Greensboro, I looked near and far for a place to go. I saw lots of places around here that do alterations, so picking one to use was difficult, but I decided on trying Sara's. I've brought a few items here to get done, mainly suits and pants. I've been very impressed with the work. Everything I've gotten done, had been a perfect fit when I pick it up. It's also a quick turn around time once you drop off your item, and it being ready for pick up. In some cases, it could take away from the quality, but that's not the case here. Prices aren't too bad, pretty much average prices wherever you go, but the work he does is impressive. Good prices + Quality work = Success! They do make you pay in advance for the work. Never had to do that before. I'm use to paying when I pick it up, that way I can make sure it's right before paying. So keep that in mind when coming here, but I'm not complaining because the results have been very good. This is the only place I'll be bringing my clothes for alterations to. read more

These people are absolutely amazing! Let me tell you: I went in HOURS before needing my bridesmaid dress for a wedding. I took it to another alteration place weeks before and they screwed it all up and made the boob area HUGE. I was in panic tears because nobody would help. So I took it here, they didn't charge me too much and LITERALLY took apart everything the other alteration lady did and redid the entire dress. It looked so beautiful! I got two pairs of very long jeans hemmed. They look so great. They are from Altar'd State in the Friendly shopping center. I like the new stitching even better than the original stitching! They were $15 each to hem, so that was reasonable. They do take cards, but if you have cash there's a sign that says they prefer cash. I'm sure it saves them from paying the 5% (or so) fee to the credit card company. read more

This small alterations shop is, in my opinion, the best alterations place that I know of in Greensboro. The owner is extremely friendly, kind, and flexible. He has done small alterations for me such as hemming shorts, repairing holes in the lining of my purses, repairing holes in an expensive, a tear in a couple of delicate shirts of mine, and sewing buttons back on to my Uggs and some shirts. The prices are extremely reasonable and the wait time is never more than a day or two for minor alterations. I love this place and won't be going anywhere else for these types of services. read more

the guy din't know how much to charge, he kept wanting to change the price of the monogramming. I had a valid GROUPON and he told me he doesn't like those and to return it and pay him cash. He quoted one price, then charged another. I ended up leaving without having anything done. total waste of time. read more
