Deceptive business practices. Take your alterations someplace else to avoid surprises!!! They told me the deposit was $40 to alter my suit when it was dropped off. I asked two times before I left what the total amount would be when picking up the items. I was told "that is it" and "the total is $40." $40 was written on the ticket in two places and I received the stub without any prices. When I came back to retrieve the suit, one of the $40 amounts on the original ticket was scratched out and additional numbers were written in with a different pen with a new total of $110. They also had a blue sign above and to the left of the register that stated: "payment in full is due at the time of drop-off." This sign was taken down after the first time I attempted to get a partial refund. When it comes to commonly tailored items, this business should know and post their prices so there are no surprises. They should also put the total on the ticket when the items are dropped off. At the very least, they should tell you the total amount when asked. Had I known the true total, I would've had fewer things altered on the suit. In the end, this business accepted no accountability for not telling me the correct total when I asked or providing an accurate total on the ticket at drop-off. They also refused to offer any sort of partial refund for any portion of the excess amount I was not expecting to pay when I dropped of the suit. read more

I brought in a pillow case to have them hem redone because it had come apart. I was charged $18 which I thought was very high. I came home and realized they had completely redone the entire pillowcase and had replaced the fabric with a different color. Didnt tell me this thinking it wouldn't come up. very deceitful and I will not be coming back to them. I am asking them for a full replacement bc now it doesn't match my set. read more

I had a men's suit tailored at Sarah's (101st and Yale). Turnaround time was good, and the tailoring on the pants was OK. That's where the good ends. First of all, when I dropped the suit off, I felt rushed. I understand the need to service other customers, but the female proprietor kept leaving me mid-fitting to go ring someone up or to get something from the back for someone new who had come in. (Her husband was also working and could possibly have pitched in on some of this.) I would have liked more personal care and advice during the fitting. All I got were interruptions and questions --- zero suggestions when I asked for an opinion, for instance, on how she thought the pant should break. I'm not an expert on every suit-fitting measure, but I expect a tailor to be. When I went to pick up the suit, the male proprietor asked me if I wanted to try it on. I can't imagine someone not wanting to try a suit on after paying $100+ to have it tailored. After I tried it on, no one came out to look it over with me. The jacket was not tailored to my liking. I had to ask someone to come out from the back, and I noted that I did not like the fit of the sleeves. The female proprietor was argumentative, and incorrect on her understanding of where a suit sleeve should fall. (It should be at or a hair above the wrist, not partway into the meat of the thumb.) All she could say was that I was wrong, it would be too short, and that I shouldn't be mad if she re-did it and it was too short. Her husband took her side in what was becoming something close to an argument, noting that she had done this 100 times. I eventually walked out unsatisfied and resolved to take the suit somewhere else. As argumentative as the tailor was, I did not want to risk giving her another shot at it. In short, the customer service is abysmal. Sarah's might be OK for altering other types of clothing, but I cannot recommend taking a men's suit here. I had a bad feeling when I went in originally. I should have followed my gut and cut my losses at that point. read more

I have three sport coats that I took to several dry cleaners to see if they could repair some bubbling that happened under the fabric in the chest area. The dry cleaners could not help me. Sarah's was able to get all three of them as good as new and saved me from buying three new suits. read more

took an expensive pair of jeans for a simple hem. tried them on when I got home and they were still too long (Probly 2-3 inches too long)..took them back in to be re-done. he re-marked them. came back to get them a week later..."that'll be $28"...i said "these were re-dos, already paid once" . he tries to blame it on me for wearing different shoes! uhhh, no, same shoes. he says "when it's our fault, we don't charge." well, whose fault is it? YOU marked them the first time, not me. anyway, back and forth we went. I could hear the lady in the background speaking a different language to him about this issue. he kept basically blaming me for the first mark being 2-3 inches too long...I paid, and told him our family will find another place for our tailoring needs. utterly unbelievable. read more
