Dr Sweep - I would recommend this company for your Fireplace Chimney Cleaning and Inspection. 5/22/2025

    Dr Sweep

May 31, 2025 - Saturday…read more Review #519 My review is based on the Service, Quality and Value with Dr. Sweep (Humor name) that performed a Spring cleaning, camera inspection and 26 - point checklist for the closing of My family room fireplace. Fireplace technician Rob Gray was on time as informed when I set up the appointment on line from 7 days prior. Before starting the process of cleaning, camera of inspection then approval, he was kind enough to ask questions about the fireplace being the first time at My Home. He was very knowledgeable and also discussed the types of wood to burn to help out with less creosote in the chimney. Then he talked about moisture levels and those annoying down drafts which I was already aware of. Before I start a fire on a Windy afternoon I open up the door-wall a bit to assist wind. Humor about the company name, I asked employee Rob where was his stethoscope since name of company is Dr. SWEEP! :-) He was cautious with using the backyard and door-wall to bring in his cleaning and inspection equipment plus a tarp on the carpet to prevent dirt or dust. The masonry chimney potential concerns and fireplace concerns worksheet I attached in a photo to state the many steps in the verification of the service! Since My fireplace has a insert and high tech blower system that checked out great and in proper usage. No leaks, no damaged bricks and the 8 inch Flue checked out fine. It was nice to see the camera photos of a shiny Liner! I was pleased in the final process with great results and that the fireplace passed inspection is safe for use again in the Fall. The start to finish cleaning and outside inspection on the roof of the family room fireplace took 1 Hour. Great Service, Details in High Quality and a Good Cleaning price of $269.00. less coupon discount $20.00. Now the outside on the roof of the chimney "Crown" needs to be resurfaced after 25 years of using the fireplace and also waterproofing which I will set up a day and time later on to complete this in September or October. I was glad to find this company in the Dollars Inside Coupon Book and checked on their reviews and used a coupon for $20.00 off the cleaning. I will also use another coupon in the future for 20% off Masonry Repairs. This company has been in business since 1999. What took Me so long to find them to call ? :-) Thank You Rob at Dr. Sweep and the next time I call for cleaning, I will ask for You! Attached are photos of this business with ads, Hours, the set up and cleaning process and the final paperwork of My Home fireplace Spring cleaning project, inspection and Approval to close it up. They are Licensed & Insured #2103219210 Sincerely. Karen N. :-)

He spent time discussing the type of wood we should use, moisture levels, how to store it, how to regulate the air flow in our house to optimize the fire... it was truly unbelievable! I regret ever hiring Holsbeke to tear out my old patio and pour a new one. The lack of care the…read moreowner (Chris Jr.) and the project manager (Tom) showed was unbelievable. The patio tear out should have been straightforward but resulted in damaged brick and a chipped foundation. What bothered me more than the damage was, instead of letting me know when it first happened, they left it up to me to find it when the tear out was completed. They eventually got around to patching up the area 2 months later when they poured the patio which is where the biggest disappointment came. The patio was scheduled a few days ahead of time and there was rain in the forecast (Sep-13). The day of the pour I asked Tom, the project manager, if the pour can be delayed or if the area will be protected. With his dismissive attitude he said rain is not in the forecast it's his job to track the weather not mine. No mention of what they plan to do if it rains. Second, Tom mentioned just before the pour that the area behind the patio steps cannot get troweled smooth like the rest of the patio. I figured it was an area that doesn't get traffic or much visibility so if it's not as smooth as the rest of the patio it shouldn't be a big deal. This concern was never brought up when I received a quote or when the old patio was torn out months earlier. What ended up happening is the pour started just as rain moved in. Tom ignored the forecast the entire morning and the crew was forced to work in the rain. The result? A poorly protected wet patio that was covered in rain, a race to complete a job with cut corners along the way with the result being an all-around botched job. The supposed 'less finished' area behind the patio steps was missing concrete and a perfect place for water to pool against the house. They left a wood form stuck in the concrete behind the step, and when they later went to remove the wood form, resulted in aggregate spewing out from the inside of the step. Yep, they packed aggregate against the wood form which didn't allow concrete to form against the wood. The wet surface resulted in large areas of discolored concrete that are still present months later. The patio failed initial inspection, obviously, and even the follow-up patch work was a mess but just enough to pass inspection since, according to the building inspector, workmanship was removed from the building code. In the end Holsbeke offered a "solution": remove my newly installed fence so they can bring in large machines to tear out the patio. Not much of a solution especially given the fact they already damaged by house the first time they tore out a patio. Did they offer a discount? No. I have not experienced such lack of care and shoddy work at this level before. The best I can do is show pictures of the patio and let others decide what to do with their hard-earned money.

Craftsman Masonry worked on my chimney and touched up the mortar around my brick house. As other…read morereviewers have said, my general experience was that they were honest and hard working. The work was done on a hot August day. The weather prediction was that it was supposed to rain the next day. In spite of that, storms started popping up on the weather radar in the afternoon. The weather radar showed one of the storms tracking straight at my general area. At this point the last area to start working on was a window sill that would be opened up to the elements (in order to fix the surrounding mortar). I talked with the job supervisor several times about the approaching storm and my concerns about working on that window. He consistently told that it wasn't raining right now (he disregarded the weather radar that I showed him) and that the window sill wouldn't take long to do. When the weather radar showed that the storm was 30-45 minutes away, they still hadn't started to work on the window. Josh (sales) told me that it wasn't raining right now and that I would be charged for a return trip if I wanted to delay the window sill work. I felt like Josh also disregarded the weather radar. It wasn't until after that conversation that they started working on the window. Unfortunately they gouged the top of the slate window sill with their angle grinder, they chipped the front face of the slate window sill and a brick below the sill. The chaulking around the window sill was done on wet mortar so parts of it didn't adhere properly. I fixed the chaulk two days later. I can't fix the sill and brick problems. I feel that the last minute push to work on the window sill contributed to the mistakes I described. It would have been better if they had started the window sill earlier when I first started talking with the job supervisor about what I was seeing on the weather radar. Yes, it rained while they were working on the window.

They completed the project in record time, even fitting me in ahead of schedule, which was a huge relief considering spring rains were on their way. The crew was fantastic--professional, friendly, and respectful of my property. They communicated with me every step of the way, answering all my questions quickly and thoroughly, sending me photos of the work to assuage any concerns. It was clear that they take great pride in their work, and they left my yard in perfect condition, cleaning up meticulously after the job was done. One wrench in the project was that I had an invisible fence line that ran through multiple areas of excavation, and I knew there was no chance that line wasn't going to be cut. What really blew me away, was that Cristian went out and repaired the damage and the line works perfectly again; talk about above and beyond! A week later, the drainage system works perfectly, and my yard is shockingly dry considering the recent heavy rain. I highly recommend Hills Excavation for any complicated and muddy yard-related needs--they exceeded my expectations in every way and I'm glad I no longer feel like Shrek telling people to, "get out of my swamp!"

The first thing I noticed right away is they actually answer their phone when they call so that was already a plus for me. I was able to schedule an estimate quickly and get someone out to help us address our main issue which was our kitchen not venting correctly, in addition to a fireplace that we would soon need because of the cold Detroit winter. As a new homeowner, we did want to make sure that the fireplaces were in good working condition before we actually started using them so we requested a estimate on what the service and maintenance could potentially be for the fireplaces that we had in our house and any recommendations that they would have. The process was very straightforward. They easily walked us through the quote and what was needed and why, in addition to what the current condition of the fireplace was in to what would need to be done and how it would fix the problem as well as what comes after the service what could be expected what they would be able to help us with should we come across any hiccups after the fireplace maintenance and what warranties came with the products that we purchased. We purchased dampers some gas fire logs, and had our fireplaces updated so that we could use them last winter. From there coming this winter, we assumed that we would have to have the fireplaces serviced again because it was a new year, though we only had a handful of fires in the living room fireplace they scheduled the appointment. They were prompt and scheduling, as well as coming out for service and transparent enough to say we haven't used our fireplace enough to fully warrant a cleaning. This was refreshing to see this type of honesty from a contractor. Then we ended up having an issue with the smoke coming into our house on our serviced fireplace. They were able to address solve an analyze, the reasons why the smoke was coming in to our living room, though everything looked up-to-date and ready to go. It was next level problem-solving skills that they would rarely run across because of the unique fireplace that we had in our Historic house. It was very appreciated that they did not just give up and ask us to spend a gazillion dollars to throw money at a problem. I highly recommend Detroit City sweep for the professionalism the availability, and of course, the quality of the work.
