I was here with my college-age daughter for two nights in June, my first time at this hostel. I'll…read morebreak it down as such: THE GOODS - Houston is a sprawling city, but this location is right where I wanted to be - I was here for the Museum District and the downtown area primarily and this was mere minutes away with my car. Even had I traveled on foot there were places to eat, as documented in the hostel's common area. They even gave directions to Beyonce's childhood home which is in the neighborhood. - Free street parking in front of the hostel, with plenty of room. - Friendly check-in process - note the check-in takes place from 4-9pm. was walked through the various codes I needed to use for the gate, the front door, and my room. - The common area is pretty cozy with board games and such, and one of the nights I was there I saw some people hanging out there which was nice. Had we not had evening plans and been general Eastern-Time-Zone zombies by the time we got back, we probably would have checked it out more. - Our room had a bunk bed setup, floor and ceiling fan, and even an ensuite bathroom - for $60/night this is a very good deal! No noise at night, a very peaceful room setup. THE NOT-SO-GOODS - When I first arrived, I was admittedly a little underwhelmed with the location - the neighborhood, at least on a summer afternoon, had a quiet, almost abandoned feel, and the hostel's street is directly next to the banks of an elevated highway. I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a slight feeling of uneasiness. But this was all my imagination attempting to play tricks on me, and there was nothing wrong at all and again I was happy to be so close to the places I wanted to visit in town. And as mentioned, the highway noise didn't impact our rest. - That's it! Simply put, this was a great base for our time in the city and when I return to Houston I will definitely plan on this as my lodging.

I was here for the weekend and my experience was amazing. I was able to do self check-in at the hotel without a problem. No issues at all. I had requested a room away from the elevator (I'm sensitive to noise) and they were able to accommodate my request. The room was simple but spectacular. Very modern inside. The bed was extremely comfortable and the space was perfect. The bathroom was very clean and the bath products were superb. No fridge, no microwave. Chargers for electronics were plentiful! I definitely enjoyed the free water bottles in the hall way, the ice machine in the basement, the vending machines, the free coffee machine in the lobby and the attentive staff. The lobby is really beautiful, lots of space for working and relaxing. I look forward to coming back to enjoy another experience here.

I liked the coffee machine in the lobby, but the sparkling water dispenser was empty the whole time I stayed there. I cut my stay short and was communicating with the hotel via text messages. I checked out at 4:25 PM, and from the correspondence, I believed that I wouldn't be charged for an extra night. But later I was informed that I was charged for an entire night and they can't do anything about it. The location of the hotel is convenient for anyone who is trying to stay in downtown Houston, but I'll never repeat the experience of staying there.

Review is for Afternoon tea: There was a 7 min wait to get in but once in, you are getting by staff…read moreand led to your table. I would say the decor is very old fashion lounge with there being a mix of table with chairs or chairs paired with a couch. Our server seemed very nice but a bit new as she could not tell me if one of the teas was decaf right away. Also, I made a note that I could not have tuna but they took this as I could not have fish so they gave me two chicken salad sandwiches instead of the salmon even though I had stated on the phone salmon was fine. She also could not describe one of the desserts but overall she was very pleasant. The amuse bouche was - interesting ( a strawberry with cream cheese) I didn't hate or love it. I didn't think the cream cheese added anything tbh. We had one dessert on the table waiting for us before we said down - a English parfait that had a white chocolate mouse, cake, and fruit. I loved it although it was a bit strange to have dessert already sitting at your table before you got your sandwiches but I am a dessert first girl so didn't matter to me other than it was constantly calling my name. You don't get to choose your tea and the two tea options are both black which is a lot of caffeine. The sandwiches themselves come across as unassuming but they are great and very filling. Each one has a different bread which was cool. Although not a fan of cucumber, the bread was milky and so soft. All the sandwiches were fantastic. Honestly, I was so full from the tea and sandwiches, I took the desserts home. One big misstep in service was the server forgetting to serve the second tea. I had to ask for it and by the time we got it, we were tea'ed out. You are gifted a box of macarons at the end - we almost left ours but our server ran and got us in time. I definitely had a great time, there were small incidents that stopped it from being 5 stars. Paying 79 dollars for tea is a bit pricy so I would expect a bit more precision and maybe more choice in tea?

Afternoon tea is always a delight! A variety of teas are served with various sandwiches. That is…read morefollowed by a scone with clotted cream and jam. The grand finale is a plate of three pastries - a fruit tart, a fruit custard pie (mango?) and a large decadent chocolate ball with gold leaf. I have been familiar with the hotel for quite some time but this was my first time checking it out. It's a bit of a hit and a miss. On the one hand, the decor is nice and trendy. It's in a great location within walking distance of the River Oaks Shopping District. On the other hand, it's a hotel where upkeep doesn't seem to be a big priority. It's not that it's run-down or dirty or anything like that. But the hotel isn't as maintained as it should be and it's noticeable. You have to pay for self parking in an adjacent garage and I'm always annoyed when parking isn't free at a hotel. When I checked in, I asked the person at the front desk for information on the happy hour at the hotel's bar and she didn't know. And lastly, my room was super close to 610 so the constant noise of traffic didn't make for the most quiet of environments. All in all, it was an enjoyable stay which could have been a bit better.
