I went with a friend for dinner on a Sunday late afternoon. My first visit and when I say the food was good, I literally mean the food was good! It's the best thing I have found in the Chicago/Indiana area. I'm afraid to say that no one is as good as Texas. The queso was really good along with the chips and salsa. They offered me a 26 or 32 oz Michelob Ultra Draft, I opted for the 32 oz. The server could have been more attentive, especially since there were just about 4 two toppers and 1 group of six. We held a conversation without having to yell, and was quite pleasant. The atmosphere was great. Santa Fe is definitely one of my top five Mexican restaurants outside of Texas. read more

Ordered a steak and cheese burrito- description says covered in cheese. When I asked for more cheese the waiter took a butter knife and scraped the itty bit off the side of my burrito and said see it has cheese. Said I could pay for more cheese. Ambiance: I thought it was a very nice decor. Not too noisy. Drink: My raspberry tea was very good and with refills. Menu: A transition from drinks to food.... pushing close to a twenty spot for a margarita? Really? The food prices are approaching top tier for Mexican also. Now to be fair, there are reviews claiming the food is bland, and I'd like to point out that in Mexico there are dishes considered spicy hot and some that are not. Keep in mind though that in Mexico the hottest pepper used is generally the relatively wimpy Habanero. If you want a big hot bang, make a life goal to visit Hot Tamales in Rio Rancho (Albuquerque). And go for a hot air balloon ride. Back on track though to the Crown Point Santa Fe. Know how local restaurants ask if you want red sauce? In Santa Fe (Near Albuquerque) you are asked if you want Christmas! Every day of the year. It means red AND green sauce. Say yes. That's how you can tell this is not in Santa Fe city. Now back on track. Again. Hang with me on this, we're getting into the food taste now. The chips and salsa... the best salsa in the area IMO. Queso was not rated similarly by others at the table. I'm not getting off track, but I ask you if you have ever used the jars of Mexican spices from a store? The contents are usually red and taste grittingly awful. Unfortunately that's the flavor impression I got from the otherwise hefty and would be good beef taco. Dried spices are awful. It's easy to chop real (and very inexpensive) chiles from the farmers' market. Do that with a variety of peppers here and the value of the food might come close to the price. So only chips and a taco. That's because they had fried ice cream on the menu. If you don't remember, thats very cold ice cream and a deep fried cinnamon shell around it, covered with whipped cream and cherry setting in a deep fried tortilla shell. At least in most Mexican restaurants. Here in this Santa Fe poser, it's very cold acceptable ice cream with a deep fried shell of some cinnamon breakfast cereal around it! Gag me with a spoon! Like grotty to the max! Avoid! The service was friendly and very good. I am in the half of the table that spent five years in the southwest that can't say I will be returning to this restaurant. Even the one who had two margaritas (said they were just OK) won't be returning. The other half of the table (one spent five years in the southwest, one doesn't like Mexican food and one likes mild) actually liked the food and said they would return. I also have a personal subset of dislike, high prices (anywhere). So pick your side and act accordingly. read more

We came for Cinco de Mayo and had a wonderful time! They were super crowded, but we were able to find a table. The service was excellent. The margaritas were delicious and the food was wonderful. 1 star - Major DisappointmentI really wanted to love this place, but honestly it felt like a rip-off at every turn.We ordered the mixed fajitas (steak, chicken, chorizo, and shrimp) thinking it would be the usual generous sizzling skillet you get at most Mexican spots. What arrived was a lukewarm plate that never hissed or smoked once. The "sizzling" part was completely missing.Portion-wise, it was laughable: exactly three tiny cubes of steak and three equally small pieces of chicken - each no bigger than a grape. The chorizo and shrimp weren't much more generous. For the price ( $20 depending on the protein combo), this was Happy Meal territory, not dinner.Everything else lacked seasoning. The rice and beans were bland, the veggies on the fajita plate were undercooked and completely unseasoned, and even the complimentary chips tasted like they came straight out of a generic grocery store bag - no salt, no lime, nothing.The restaurant itself was clean and the decor was nice, so they're clearly putting effort into appearance. But service was inattentive, they never offered more chips and salsa or another drink. With so many authentic, generous, and flavorful Mexican restaurants in the area, I can't see any reason to return here. Overpriced, undersized, underseasoned, and underwhelming in every way. Atmosphere and service were good. We were a group of five so we had a good variety of food. One of the dishes ordered was a grilled chicken, unfortunately it came out burned. And it had that burnt taste that overwhelmed the sandwich. The other food dishes were ok, nothing really made me say, "i gotta come back". Probably wont be back due to the burned grilled chicken, a few people had to see this before coming to the table and this has me thinking quality control is not here. 4/5 is still pretty good, just that one dish has me second guessing this restaurant. Mexican restaurants are everywhere now, you have to stand out and consistently cook great food, unfortunately this may not be one of them for me. 3 stars for average. read more

Went the week of their opening at it was awful, but thought I'd give it another go hoping it fixed itself. Drinks are very overpriced. When I asked for a "golden margarita" or a margarita made with premium liquor, was told that wasn't an option. They are all pre-mixed. Chips were good, although we had to ask for a new basket as ours was all the left over tiny chips that would be at the bottom of a bag. Service was good. Food not so much. Couldn't cut the steak, let alone chew it. Rice was completely devoid of any color or flavor. A meal doesn't come with beans and rice, just beans OR rice. Steak inside a burrito was very seasoned. Some might like it, but I didn't. Steak and Cheese burrito consisted of small strips of steak and a small amount of cheese wrapped in a tortilla. Very odd. Cheese dip had no flavor. With so many other, better options in the area, they really need to up their game. New chef, maybe a bartender who can make drinks, revamp of the menu??? Right now, it's just not good. The decor is great. Hoping they can get close to the Santa Fe #1. That place is worth the trip. read more

I am a resident of crown point so i am one who loves to support local businesses. I decided to try Santa fe. The food was awful. It did not taste authentic at all. Very bland. I ordered 3 items, just to try. I ordered the steak quesadillas, a chicken chimachinga and a chicken, beef and shrimp fajitas. All items lack flavor. Hopefully the drinks are better. The food was all wrong. We requested on the rocks margaritas and one was frozen and one on the rocks. Requested no tomatoes due to allergies, got lots of tomatoes, ordered pork and got steak. There was hair stuck to the orange in the margarita and we ordered a two burrito dinner with green salsa and received one. I'm hoping to go back in a month or so to see if they improve, but last night was a big flop. read more
