I'd give a zero rating if I could I've never heard of a driver telling you how much to pay before the mileage goes up . Not informative about why , attitude was very dry about it . When my usual cab company wasn't available, they recommended Checker Cab. I called Checker and they were right on time! The car was clean, and the driver was friendly. Best of all, I was able to schedule the return trip with the driver right there - he was waiting when I came out! Best of all, getting a ride is as easy as using your smart phone. You can pay cash or credit card. With this convenience, why would I want Uber or Lyft? Support local businesses - take a taxi! I'm not much for writing reviews on Yelp; I usually only read others. However, I had such a terrible experience with this company that I actually feel obligated to write one (even though there isn't a single positive review anyway). I was in Santa Barbara for a dear old friend's wedding this past weekend. SIx of us needed to take a cab from our rental home to the Four Seasons. I called at 5 PM asking for a cab to pick us up at 5:40. The woman rudely informed me that they don't take orders for cabs in advance. Surprised, I said okay, and that I would call back in 20 minutes. 20 minutes later, I called back and asked for two cabs. The woman remembered me and was incredibly rude asking for my address and phone number. She said they'd be there "momentarily." We used the opportunity to take some photos of us all dressed up for the wedding, but at 5:45 realized the cab was STILL not there (I had called at 5:20). We started to panic; I called back and the woman told me that the cabs were "dropping off other customers" and would be there in "around 15 minutes." I was VERY peeved and said we would have to cancel our cab. We ended up having to drive ourselves to the wedding and leaving our cars at the hotel, meaning we had to go pick them up in the morning. It was so frustrating, considering we were only trying to be safe by taking a cab so that we could all drink comfortably. This woman knew that I was trying to plan in advance, yet was incredibly incompetent and rude. I have worked in many different types of service industries and have never treated anyone with such disrespect, even if they were being rude. I can honestly say that I was not being short, rude, or annoying in any way, and yet she treated me with complete disregard. I wish I had gotten her name so that I could call the manager/owner, but based on other reviews it seems that this is not a good cab service at all. Please take my advice and don't use this company. They are incompetent and incredibly RUDE! read more

They said our cab would be at our apartment in 15 mins, it took over 30 mins. We were late to our event because it took so long. If we had known it was going to be that long, we would have simply called another cab company. read more

I called two days ahead of time to make sure my granddaughter and her bike were safely transported to her dorm The man assured me that the time, location, bike were all "no problem" They never showed, she was at a terrible location of an Amtrak station with her bike, luggage and no way to get to her dorm. I called Checker and they informed me that they do not transport bikes at all! Nice. Gold Cab saved the day after calling all around to every cab company in town. Thank you Gold Cab! read more

If I could give this negative stars I would. My pregnant daughter and fiance's car broke down and needed to leave their car and take a cab home. First, a 15min wait ended up being 45min, then when they got in the car the sketchy driver told them they needed to pay up front. My daughter told the driver she's never heard of paying a cab upfront and she wasn't doing it and would pay upon reaching her destination. Then the old creepy man told them he's taken customers to that address before and they don't pay. My daughter told him that they have never done that and always pay and leave tips whenever they have needed a cab, and that she wasn't going to pay upfront. The guy looked like he lived in his cab, he was brushing his teeth when he drove up, he had pillows in the front seat, he was looking for something with his flashlight while he was driving, he smelled like b.o. My daughter felt so uncomfortable the whole ride home, she said he gave them a creepy feeling, bad enough to where she had 911 punched into her cell phone waiting to press send at any moment. I called their receptionist as soon as my daughter told me what happened and the lady who answered the phone seemed like she could care less what happened. Never again will my family use this cab service... and they wonder why people use Uber and Lyft more . read more

The driver was very rough and unfriendly. This business was the first listing in a google search for taxi's in the area and yet they do not accept credit card. The website even indicates that credit cards are accepted. This is unheard of in this day and age. When I explained I would have to go in and get money upon arrival at my house, the driver became even more defensive and rude. If I had had cash on me I would have paid and gotten out of the cab. I wish I could have just called in my credit card and left the cab after 2 blocks but I actually feared more for my safety exiting the cab than I did staying in it. I felt incredibly uncomfortable and unsafe because of the driver's defensive and combative attitude and behavior towards me when I was being very subdued and offering a solution to the no credit card issue. Never again, and I suggest never taking a ride with Checker. Especially my fellow ladies. read more
