Beautiful winery. I visited Hunting Creek Vineyards on a lovely Sunday afternoon in the fall. It…read morewas pleasant to sit out on the patio and look out to the lake sipping wine. The fall colors were in full effect as well making the setting absolutely picturesque. I would highly recommend Hunting Creek Vineyards.

Speaking of VIR, if you're there, you're a leisurely 1 hour jaunt from Hunting Creek Vineyards in Clover, VA. Perfect getaway for a Saturday afternoon. This is the first winery I've been to where I liked each wine presented to me, honestly. I thought that our first trip last fall and thought that again this trip. After the tasting (accompanied with crackers, chicken salad, and grapes), the four of us split a bottle of Chambourcin Rosé. Lovely wine, dry with a hint of sweetness. What we purchased for consumption back at the Old North State was a bottle of this Rosé, and my favorite - Indulgence. Indulgence is a blend of Bordeaux varietals which is tweaked each year to reflect the perfect balance between these Bordeaux varietals. I believe next trip, I'll pick up a bottle of their port as well! Wherever you drive from, Hunting Creek is well worth your time. Sandy and Milt are wonderful people and gracious hosts. I wish I could remember the name of the young lady conducting the tasting as she was knowledgeable and charming. Go, now!

I enjoyed the tasting cellar much more than the vibe upstairs at Charley's. The folks working were…read morekind and welcoming, and they answered some questions I had ahead of ordering a wine flight. Since I was planning to share with my mom, I went for the sweet wine flight despite personally preferring semi-dry wines more. I think that was my mistake, as my mom ended up not wanting to drink much, and the sweet wines are SWEET. Like syrupy-sweet. Not just like a nice moscato-sweet. It was like drinking straight sugar. And the price was steep at $37 after tip. We sat on their patio, which is underneath Charley's patio, and were treated to serene river views. A local artist played some music too. Cool vibe, I just ordered the wrong thing.

One of the waitresses said "so are we just scattering now?". You won't let us all sit together so yes? It was unnecessary and rude. The waitress told us $14 dollars for a wine flight then when the bill came it was $39. They told us that price was never told to us (it was and multiple customers at the winery were told a lower price as well). The wine was also not good. The service was horrible, our party felt treated poorly and they were rude from the jump. I do not recommend this place the staff is rude, the wine is not good, and they don't tell you correct prices!

This is the REAL Virginia wine. This is REAL American wine made by real Americans. Now, that…read moresounds pigeon-holing, and lame to those of us that are left-leaning (me to start). Anyway, I am one who makes less money and works harder by working for the government, but I'm not always proud to be American necessarily, or at the least, not blinded by its status. This is one of those places that makes me feel much more so. Its the hard work of a wonderful, beautiful couple that left the DC world for what they had always wanted. We spent two hours with them and they happily discussed their wines and processing with us. They do only American varietals. Vidal blanc, concord and other. They do a lot of things that you don't see elsewhere in VA but it really fits here. They do a beautiful Apple wine, a great blackberry, and some great things with pure grapes, no filler or waste. I like the Vidal in particular. Let me say, this place earns 4+ stars because it is the personified heart and soul of VA wine. It is not the best tasting, or the most complex... but what they are doing is a beautiful thing, and I can't wait to see what they do next, because there is such passion and soul in what they do as a couple of two that is missing in so much of the VA wine community. This is hopefully only a sign of the life to come for this great state of farmers... let us never forget that it is the farmers that make this state as good at wine as it currently is. Cheers to them.

I wish they would've had something to help clear the palate because after we hit the reds they all tasted the same. The wine that we could taste was good. I got a bottle of the Bright Meadows White which is very grapey and tasty. They also have a nice gift store.
