Back in the late 90's, I needed a cardiologist for my mom and a good friend of mine recommend Dr…read more Israel Mantecon and the Orlando Heart Center at the Sand Lake office. My mom liked Sand Lake Hospital (now Dr. P. Phillips Hospital) and Dr. Mantecon was associated with them. I soon found out that he is Chief of Cardiology at the hospital as well at the medical director of Cardiovascular services too. Dr. Mantecon gave the best service he could to my mom at the time and now treats me. I totally love his bed side manner and the reassuring feeling he gives me. I feel he is one of the best doctors in the Orlando area. His staff is friendly and always willing to help. My mom passed away in 2006 from her heart condition but Dr. Mantecon and the staff at Orlando Heart Center did everything they could to control and extend her life in the best way they could. I now see them for my own personal heart needs and could not ask for a better group of people to help me. I have also seen Dr. Jose Lefran when Dr. Mantecon is not available and found his services also great. I highly recommend the Orlando Heart Center's Sand Lake office.

Wow. I am totally floored by the service and care I received at my visit today…read more I had a scary experience that sent me to the ER earlier this week and was told to follow up with the cardiologists. I work at Dr. Phillips hospital so knew the office was here and made an appointment. I was given an appointment within two days off my ER visit which I couldn't believe. I thought it would take at least two weeks to be seen. When I arrived I was seen promptly and barely waited to be seen by Dr. Akram. He was very professional, understanding, and made me feel comfortable. He wanted me to get some tests done and the schedulers were able to fit me in quickly and easily around my hectic work schedule. I cannot recommended this place enough and actually look forward to my next visit in two weeks!

Balancing Quality of Care and Quantity of Care…read more This review is based on series of appointments and procedures spanning a 90 day period from December 2020 to February 2021. My overall impression is the CF Cardiology Group places more emphasis on quantity of appointments than quality of healthcare provided to patients. Beyond your name and date of birth you are a number and the more numbers that pass through their offices in a day the more money they make. That doesn't mean they don't meet acceptable levels under medical standards of care as they do. Just don't expect anything beyond the minimum standards of care. Let me give you two examples. In early January I was scheduled for a procedures in one of their outpatient clinics. I was directed to arrive at the facility at 8:00 am only to learn that my procedure wasn't scheduled to 11:30 that morning. The procedure took less than 20 minutes. Why I needed to be there 3.5 hours prior to the procedures was never explained. My take away was I was there to make their life easier and not because they were effective at their scheduling or providing me updates on what was happening in the 3.5 hour wait. Recently I underwent an operation where my heart rate dropped dangerously low (according to the surgeon post operation). I was held in the hospital pending consultation with CF Cardiology Group. Repeated attempts to contact by both the hospital staff and myself were unsuccessful. The cardiologist on call, Dr. Usman R. Siddiqui, was not responsive. My regular cardiologist, Dr. Sandeep Bajaj was in his daily routine of seeing patients and even though a receptionist in the location he was in took my name and phone number he never returned my call. When I contacted the CFCG main office in Winter Park I spoke with a very nice receptionist who explained that there was a protocol on how these consultations were done but she couldn't explain to me who from CFCG was going to contact the hospital or when that would happen. Ultimately a nurse practitioner from CFCG was found and said one of the medications that had been prescribed to me slowed by heart rate even though my medical history shows I have a naturally low heart rate from years of long distance running and that medication shouldn't have been prescribed. She took me off the heart rate lowering medication and I was subsequently released from the hospital. If you are considering seeking care from CFCG temper your expectations to recognize you will receive an acceptable medical standard of care but little above that level of care and they do not respond well to anomalies outside their normal daily routine. It is Quantity of care and minimally satisfy Quality of care.

My 80-year-old cousin told me about the horrible treatment by this practice. She has heart problems…read moreand they treated her until they didn't. Apparently, some incompetent nurse screwed up and these doctors are blaming my cousin, who was comatose in the hospital. They dropped her, and no one will talk to her or her representatives and other doctors nor will they refer her. Anywhere but Florida this is unethical or illegal. I continue to be thankful that I got out of there alive and with all my body parts. I used to go toTampa to get decent medical care.

Dr. Nitza Tores Alvarez is THE BEST, without a doubt, cardiologist in the Tri-County area. Her…read morestaff is top notch. She saved my husband's life not once but twice because his former cardiologist was mismanaging his care and prescribing medications that he should never have been on for years. It took him having a heart attack in the end April 2020 and another two weeks ago for him to stop using the other cardiologist even though I've been telling him that for the last three years. His condition was worsening every day since January 2018 which is the cause of these heart attacks. The day after she put in a pacemaker in January 2018 she became my cardiologist. A 5 Star rating is not high enough in my opinion. If you do nothing else, please look up her book, Heels vs Ties on Amazon. In her new book, Heels vs Ties, local cardiovascular specialist, Dr. Nitza Alvarez, shares a comprehensive guide for women to help them understand their risk for heart disease, what is important to discuss with their doctors, and empower women to take charge of their health. https://heelsvsties.com

Communication is questionable her office is run by nurse practitioners which can be fine, but when it's my heart we're dealing with and communication gets dicey. It feels a little like the game of telephone, the info is interpreted by others before it gets to md. If they don't have a responsible system of communication there a lot of room for error. If I can't trust the messages I leave are received and or followed up on errors occur. Contact isn't followed through on and I ended being charged for appointments that were previously cancelled. Like having too many cooks in the kitchen. If you can deal with that my belief is Nitza is an excellent cardiologist.

It takes two months to get an appt no matter whether you're sick or you need a referral. I was given a clipboard with forms to fill and questions to answer. (I arrived 15 min early for this.). I was asked for my DL & insurance card as I turned away to head for a seat and again when I reached my seat. I pulled these items from my purse and went back to hand over (thinking the girl a bit pushy, wanting the items immediately rather than a min later). Before I could finish the forms, more questions were verbally asked (where all in the waiting room could here). Since I did not know the answer to which pharmacy I use (being new to the area) I said I do not know right now and would have to get back her with the answer. Unfortunately, this response was not acceptable to her, as she had to have this info now so she could complete here data entry fields in her computer. Her defense was that she was just following their office protocols. I heard this word "protocol" several times over the next 5 minutes while other office staff joined in to pressure me for the name of my pharmacy. I felt like I was being attacked in front of everyone in the waiting room who were all listening in. It was appalling and so embarrassing to me. Finally my name, Susan, was called (but was pronounced Suzanne). Since Suzanne is not my name I did not respond at first, but figured it out when no one else got up. I stopped back at the counter to ask for my DL & insurance cards. I found them face up on the counter right next to the next patient who was checking in. (Yes, a DL is considered as PII even though this office and Dr. Nancy do not agree with me.) I finished the forms inside. Oh look, the forms include a question for which pharmacy do I use. I was not provided with the detail HIPPA notice or privacy policy, only a brief summary of what it supposedly contained. Therefore, I said I would sign after I received these. (Not received) Dr. Nancy helped me figure out which was the closest pharmacy to me. Upon check out I was told that I would have to choose a different primary care facility as I did not cooperate with the office "protocol." This office's protocols apparently does not include a semblance of patient dignity or privacy. I recommend that the office front reception area be renovated to include some semblance of respect for patient privacy and that ALL office staff undergo re-training to learn how to treat patients with respect, dignity, and to protect and respect patient privacy (in practice rather than just words on a paper.)

I…read moretried to switch from 1 doctor in the practice to another one, and it was an unnecessarily complicated process. It took months! Why? Because 1st cardiologist, the one whose care and standard of practice I was unhappy about, Dr Einhorn, sat on it. Took a number of phone calls and stopping by 2-3 times in person to get it done. Finally saw new, Interventional Cardiologist, Dr. Joel Garcia Fernandez, who promptly scheduled tests I was overdue to have. He also agreed with me about the BP medicine I should be taking. His staff is very nice & efficient too. And don't freak out about parking! It's the free garage on Underwood, just off Orange Ave., right next to the heart building at 1222 S. Orange. Can't park on 1st 3 floors, so just keep going up to 4th floor, and higher if necessary. Don't worry, there ARE spaces available.

Parking can be a little unnerving if you're not used to how this area can be, but eventually after going up a few levels in the garage there are spots. All in all, I have had a positive experience here.
