One of the scarce options for a coffee shop on Sanibel Island- the name & idea are cute but the execution doesn't seem to entirely be there. The shop itself is super bare bones, they have cute pairings hung up haphazardly all over and it kind of seems like they didn't pay too much attention to details, but there's a good bit of seating and plenty of natural light to brighten the space. As for coffee, they have dozens of flavor combinations but it makes for pretty sweet drink options, and most of them seem to be make from syrups, so it's something I could just make at home and isn't super gourmet. But as one of the few options on the island for coffee, we were happy to get the drinks and a light lunch with friendly service here. read more

We stopped at the Sanibel Bean twice for coffee during our week vacation on the island. My husband and I both really enjoyed our ice lattes. I am dairy-free and I ordered a decaf almond milk latte, and they were easily able to accommodate and made a delicious iced latte that I thoroughly enjoyed! The prices are a lot more expensive than you will find your typical coffee shop, but it's worth it for a vacation treat. The first time we visited, we both ordered iced lattes, and we were not asked what size we wanted. We were defaulted to the medium size which was pretty pricy and more coffee than I wanted to drink. The next time, I was sure to order a small and there was no issue. There is plenty of seating and fun island themed artwork in the large dining area with bathrooms. There is also extensive seating outside in a nicely landscaped lush patio area. It's worth biking or walking over to the Bean, and there is something on their expensive menu for everyone! read more

Coffee is good. Food is not. They're using add-water-and-mix eggs like you get at the hotel that doesn't have a kitchen but wants to offer free breakfasts, along with microwaved, tasteless breakfast meats. This food is not worth 1/10 of what they're charging. And there is at least a hint of sanitary concern. Ladies restroom lacked hand soap, and two female employees used it while we were there. I'll make this short and to the point: We really liked this coffee shop, situated in the heart of Sanibel Island, our favorite vacation spot. My only criticism is that the staff seemed utterly clueless on both our visits this week. To the owner or proprietor: Yes - I know: Covid, Covid, Covid. I understand that you're probably scraping the bottom of the barrel, trying to find and hire employees. I feel for you, but in a sense, I actually don't care. I'm paying full price (along with some Covid-induced increases, no doubt) so I should get some semblance of 2019-era service when I place my order. Labor problems are, unfortunately, yours and yours alone to solve. How do I define good service? It's actually very simple: All I require is that the person taking my order shouldn't look at me like I have a 3rd arm growing out of my forehead when I place my order. When I encounter that at any restaurant, it usually means the staff member has no clue about his/her own menu. So, in conclusion, terrific coffee and great food. The sausage & egg was fabulous. This is a staple for me when I'm on the island. The staff is great- they always give great recommendations and are super helpful. It definitely has a beach vibe to it. It's a wide open space with a walk up counter. The menu is displayed on the wall, the counter, and as pamphlets. I love the Island Squirrel latte which is a mix of coconut and hazelnut. So good! First, the outdoor seating was just right and a nice size picnic table to enjoy the delicious ice cream without feeling that others are right on top of you. Second, the waffle with ice cream which came in a frisbee was delicious. This would have been a five star rating but for the nuts sprinkled throughout the banana waffle which were not advertised (although we aren't allergic, this could be dangerous to anyone that is allergic). The ice cream was delicious and the waffle was cooked just right. If you like Reese's peanut butter cups than this waffle delight is just for you. I walked in this morning around 9 o'clock with my son. It was just us inside and the two ladies behind the counter. They were both so kind. The lady at the register was a bit older, she was full of life and had such a wonderful personality. She answered all of my questions and was so kind about it. I used to go here all the time with my mom growing up. And this is the first time I've been back in about 20 years. And I got to bring my little one with me to continue the tradition. I didn't really remember the inside at first, but is soon as I turned and saw the sunroom, all of my memories started flooding back. The service is still wonderful, the coffee is still great. Solid breakfast burritos (had the Hashed in Burrito). Decent coffee - Cafe Cubano is insanely sweet, I recommend half sweetness. Iced coffee is good, soy and almond milk available. Chill atmosphere. There's plenty of seating, some indoor, some out front, and a nice little side yard. Free WiFi for all your button mashing needs. Service is good - my coffee was way too sweet of me (I usually drink espresso straight, I went with the cafecito for some fun local flavor. Maybe most people like it painfully sweet) and the barista made me a new, less sweet one no questions asked. The coffee and food were ready in less than 5 minutes. The bagels were stacked high with fillings. Yes, as some other reviews note, the bagels are a little thin, but it was a great ratio for us. The coffee, as others noted as well, is a little weak, but ask for an extra shot and you will be good to go. We took a table outside because we brought our dog and also did some work on our computers while we ate. It was such a wonderful experience, and I will be back! My husband and I were biking to the lighthouse and decided to stop at Sanibel Bean for a coffee break. There is indoor and outdoor seating available. The main area where you order was nice a cool but the adjacent room where majority of the indoor dining tables were seemed really stuffy and no air circulating. We ordered an ice coffee and bacon, egg, and cheese on everything bagel. Ice coffee was pretty standard, almost a little watered down. Their bagels are the full bagels where that everything seasoning is on both the top and bottom of the bagel, not just top like most bagels. The cheese could have been a little more melted but overall it was good. The bagel really made up for it as it had great seasoning / flavor. read more

Oh, how I miss the old Sanibel Bean!! The new one just doesn't compare.... first off, the space has been totally transformed. There is less outdoor seating. The coffee is ok. My iced coffees were pretty good and they had soy milk and almond milk for adding to coffee. My aunt liked her French roast and my cousin enjoyed her peach mango smoothie. (Although when she ordered it with protein powder, they said they were out.) The food menu was listed without any prices, until you get to the menu on the register counter, which felt a little sneaky. My aunt and I ended up trying the veggie breakfast burrito. It would have been ok but it was soaked in... butter?! Yes, you read that correctly. Not sure why they thought that was a needed ingredient. The service was pretty terrible. The person at the register rushed us through ordering and, when we ordered ground coffee to go, was unsure what espresso grind meant. For a barista, this was a little disappointing. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! Instead go to The Coffee Bar in the Baileys grocery store on Sanibel which is fantastic and 1/2 the price of the Bean. Plus The Coffee Bar staff is friendly and willing to make anything you want. I asked the gal at the counter at the Bean for 4 shots of espresso and to please add almond milk. Simple right?!She said no, we don't do custom drinks?! She said I have to order the way coffee drinks are listed on the menu (which was a extremely small list) or I don't get a coffee drink. I said, seriously you can't make an incredibly simple coffee drink?! She said no. After treating me poorly I finally convinced the staff to make it. But when they did they charged me $12 for it and $6 for an iced coffee?! $18 for 2 drinks!! I could have got the same 2 drinks at the Coffee Bar in Baileys grocery store for $9 which is half the price!! Where I know their staff treats people very well. Word around town is the owner of the Bean knows people aren't happy with the service/prices at the Bean and he doesn't care. Let's make him care. The lady taking our order was nice enough, but every time I asked a question, it derailed her. I ordered a dirty iced chai and got a hot chai....with no add shot. When I asked to have it fixed, the lady who made it just looked at me and walked away. We stood there for about 10 minutes waiting for my bagel only to discover it sitting on a back counter....no one had cared to mention that it was sitting up there (mind you, no other customers in the shop at that time). No pricing on anything, so no way to gauge what things cost, but my bagel with an egg and roasted red pepper and my large chai latte? $21!!!!
