We were undecided about starters eventually decided on mains only. My wife opted for a chicken shashlik with rice which came with a sauce that was quite astringent, almost as if some vinegar had been added. The sauce was well flavoured but it didn't suit my wife's palate although I liked it. The rice was perfectly cooked. I ordered a butter paneer dish with a Peshwari nan. It was a very tasty main, I did enjoy the paneer and my wife enjoyed my sauce more than her own as it was sweeter. The only thing missing, that I expected to find, was green peas and only because they are always in this dish when I order it. Their absence didn't affect the dish, I was just surprised not to get them. The only disappointment was the peshwari nan as the filling was so thin we simply couldn't detect any of the flavours we expected but given the price I wouldn't drop a star. My advice is put the price up a bit and put in some more filling. Our friends enjoyed their dishes but I only recall one main - chicken biryani with the same 'sour' sauce and a garlic nan.

I seem to be fierce lucky with midlands Indian restaurants…read more Yaadgar is located in a charming little courtyard off of Tullamore's main street, and what attracted us was big sign that advertised two courses for €15. And this was during the evening, not some sort of early-bird special. We were greeted by a very polite gentleman and shown to a table. The restaurant itself was decorated on the fancier side of the standard Indian decor template. There was only one other table there that evening, who, although they arrived before us, were still there when we were leaving, their plates long since removed. There was a decent variety of dishes on the specials menu. I ordered a Peshwari kebab for my starter, and a chicken rogan josh for my main. The two courses were served almost simultaneously. A Peshwari kebab is in essence a lamb burger - which was grand - and the rogan josh was very tasty. I was pleased to see that the two course deal included naan breads. It's always nice when they don't try to stiff you by not including such essential extras such as naans. I can't remember what the other two lads had, but it's safe to say that we were all thoroughly satisfied. The service was very prompt, almost too attentive - there was a waiter posted over my shoulder almost constantly, and he took up the bill almost the second after I'd paid it. I've mentioned before that I'm a teeny bit uncomfortable with the idea of being waited on, but I suppose i'm nit-picking, and I'd no doubt be giving out if the service was slow. Just as we were leaving, the chef and (I assume) the proprietor himself came out and shook my hand, which was an unexpected and nice touch. One word of warning, though - they bring you out a little saucer of toffees once you've finished the meal. I ate one which was soft and yielding, and when I chomped down on the second one, assuming it to be of a similar consistency, I almost severely damaged the muscles on the left-hand side of my jaw, so watch out for the toffees. Has they still been on Monaghan St and Maya cafe was open I'd have gone there for a great cappuccino. This time we got the meal deal 3 at £24 but it was topped up by £2 due to my order choices (no fish just chicken based mains) but I've give. Up arguing over price hikes. I suppose I was inclined to do a review here having just recently experienced a truly dreadful Bangladeshi restaurant in Letterkenny. The latter deserves promptly closed down with the former deserving of support in this most challenging of times.

I had the chicken Karahi which was really tasty and a dish I had never heard of before with peppers and chunks of onion. The naan bread was I think the best I have ever had, light and freshly made. The friendliness of the staff really made an impression. The waiter was chatty and friendly and the chef even came out for a chat too! So it was nice to be able to compliment him on his food. After much searching online, we found the details of this restaurant and decided to give it a try. We made a quick call, to make a reservation for that evening. We later found out that the establishment is also a Bed & Breakfast, something that we will remember when we return to the area. In the town of Belturbet, at the top of the Main Street the road bends to the right towards Cavan and Dublin, rather than following the road to the right, go straight on and you will see the marina on your left. Follow this road out of Belturbet for around 5 miles and we found the restaurant on the left, up a brightly lit driveway. Upon arriving at the restaurant, set in the beautiful County Cavan countryside, we were greeted by comfortable and appealing furnishings and the aroma of spices. We availed of the Christmas Menu meal deal, this included four courses and a glass of wine or beer for just €25 each. Each course was beautifully presented and the food was obviously freshly prepared, as it tasted superb. The couple that run the place were very welcoming and friendly and there was a great and relaxing atmosphere throughout our visit. If you like Indian food, you will not be disappointed and I bet you will not find better anywhere.

The Food: We got Tandoori Mixed Special (€11.95), a side of the Saag Paneer (€4.95), and G.O.C. naan (€3.25) to split between the two of us. The Tandoori special was very generous portions, and included chicken, lamb, and other grilled meat. I don't usually like getting tandoori at Indian restaurants (it's like the least sexy dish), but we were craving meat, so we went for it. It was good, but not great - a little dry, but that is often the case. There a number of really flavorful sauces that you can add (some with a lot of heat), and that helped a lot. At the price and for the amount of food, it was a good deal though (and definitely satisfied the meat craving). The Saag Paneer, which is pureed spinach and mustard leaves with cream and chunks of Indian cheese, was flavorful. The menu said medium spicy, but I did not notice any real heat. The G.O.C. naan (garlic, onion, and coriander) was fresh and doughy, also with good flavor - not quite as much as I expected, but still pretty good. The restaurant has an almost overly formal feel to it with mood lighting and wine glasses set out, red tablecloth, etc. I found that slightly odd, given that they also do take out, but it is a really nice interior and probably makes for a romantic date. Service: Really friendly servers and people running the restaurant, with good recommendations. Our server warned us about the super spicy sauce you can add to your food, and was a bit surprised that we just about finished off the entire container. Its always busy here so it is worth reserving a table before you go. The decor is really lovely and very comfortable. The only downside is the service can be very slow probably because the staff are always rushed off their feet.I didn't remove a star for this though as the staff are always so nice and they almost always throw in a few extra side dishes and a drink on the house. We were staying at a nearby hotel and smelled the lovely spices of Indian food each time we passed…read moreby. One night we had to stay in, so we got some canned beer and stopped by here. It was pretty good Indian food, with a small menu but big servings. The paneer was really good--not too squeaky rubbery like what's found at some places. The chala wasn't as spicy as what I am used to, but still it was good takeout food. The naan was particularly tasty , so if you are choosing between the rice and the naan, go for the latter.
