The market is not huge,…read morethey have an outdoor part selling some plants and herbs in pots, and inside there's a great assortment of fresh herbs, vegetables, some fruits, beans, eggs, pastries, honey and jam. The market is obviously popular as there were many customers during my visit. I found some fruits are more expensive but most vegetables are reasonably priced. Since it's not far away from home, I'll always come back for its organic produce.

When we arrived the first thing my mom saw was a plant that was potted in the front. She said it looked like a plant called Dasheen, she was ready to ask if it was for sale LOL! Dasheen is kinda like spinach! It's taste so good when cooked with white belly shrimp. We picked up quite a few veggies (hot peppers, corn, kale, tomatoes, eggplant and cabbage). So soon as we got home we boiled the corn and added some paprika on it. It was so sweet, it didn't need butter! I would say the hot peppers were more on the mild side. But I did eat one that super hot. Hopefully next time we go we'll pick our own vegetables.

Main feature here is the hydroponic lettuces and they are sharing the store with artisan artists and local farms. They have been selling lettuce locally during covid and finally have a store set up this week. The way they grow lettuce is sustainable, using a bathtub of water to circulate the large greenhouse adjacent to the parking lot. The fish(trout?) help feed the plants with extra nutrients. It shows how fresh and healthy it is when you see the lettuce head up close. I appreciate how they bundle the roots too to keep the freshness even longer! It's roughly $3-4 per bunch. They are still in soft opening phase, so prices and hours are still being adjusted. Located right off Reesor Rd, keep right onto a dirt-gravel road to a small parking lot. Tours to the lettuce hydroponic greenhouse are resuming soon.

I finally got an opportunity last Friday to stop by and I was NOT impressed. I bought some golden…read morebeets from the first vendor and paid $4.00 for about eight. Then purchased two field cucumbers and a red onion from another vendor for $4.00. Lastly, I stopped at another vendor as I was looking for some heirloom tomatoes. She had the good ones at the back and all the gross mushy ones at the front. I politely said that they were a little too soft for the dish I was planning on making. She said that there supposed to be like that. Seriously, tomatoes are supposed to be consumed half rotten? I ended up buying some salad tomatoes from her for $4.00 or $5.00 ... can't remember. Fast forward to the next day: all the beets shrunk and got mushy so I threw away my $4.00. I made a Greek salad with the remaining ingredients. Cucumbers tasted like No Frills, tomatoes were nothing special (Farm Boy far superior) but the onion was delicious. I will go back as the green beans, peaches and celery root looked really good but, sorry to say, Farm Boy has fresher organic and non-organic produce at better prices.

That's appreciated when you just need to cook and are not in the market for tourist activities. It's right across from Essence on the corner of Kensington beside rasta pasta. Since the location is usually busy, the stock gets replenished frequently and they never run out of any items, at least not during the times I have visited. Plus during the warmer months there's an abundance of fresh produce and herbs to purchase for your own indoor/outdoor gardens at home. It seemed like the whole outside of the store is lined with mini containers screaming take me home, take me home and pick me, pick me. I'm always tempted to buy some as it'll be convenient to have freshly available produce at home, but just haven't taken the bait yet since I like coming to the market. The selection of fruits and vegetables may seem overwhelming, but everything is neatly organized and labeled well for easy identification and pricing. Whatever I'm looking for or want, they seem to have at any given time. They even have fiddleheads which not many places in the market carries. Overall, a good place to pick up fresh produce without paying too much and one of my go-to places in the market.

Oooooh-Emmmmm-Geeeeee!!! Sooooooo happy is me!…read more On my way home from work this morning I stopped by the market and now I'm absolutely on a sensory high!!! Some of the stands aren't actually from farms (from what I hear) but just people that buy large quantities of produce and go to market to sell it. I didn't buy anything from those guys. I DID, however, buy from a bunch of different families/farmers. It was so wicked cool! I was really overwhelmed by the size of the setup and the number of stands. I most appreciated the guys that offered samples of their fruits and veggies. In fact, I wound up just saying "yes" to buying everything they fed me as I took each euphoric bite. I'm not gonna lie... not all of the vendors are very friendly. I actually felt that the majority were not so. That was a bit of a letdown. But I spent enough time passing through the lanes and chatting with a handful of people that I still had a warm and welcoming experience. The market is open Friday and Sunday from about 7 or 8 am until about 4 or whenever they pack up and will run to October. I know where I will be doing my shopping for the next couple of months!

Every Saturday at the Etobicoke Civic Centre there is a small but wonderful farmers market. I've…read morebeen going there every weekend this summer and I've developed great relationships with actual farmers and enjoyed the fresh Ontario harvest. Like most farmers market recently, there are some resellers here. I would say there's only 2 stalls here that are 100% resellers and have no idea how food gets to their hands. There are probably 4 other stalls that sell repackaged vegetables and half their crops. From my experience, there are 4 real farmers that are phenomenal. My favourite vegetable stall that is owned by an actual farmer is against the southern part of the lot and right beside the chicken/egg farmer. He specializes in leafy vegetables and the occasional root vegetable. I love his baby spinach. It's ridiculously fresh (the spinach still has the damp earth on it from being picked the day before). I normally hate spinach but I found this spinach to be tender and almost sweet in taste. It didnt have that awful bitter taste or that awful rough film on left on your teeth. I guess only old spinach does that. Their Boston lettuce is HUGE and actually flavourful. They also sell rainbow beets in the spring and early summer. When roasted, it's nearly candy sweet and it has that really neat zebra stripe orange and white appearance. There is a fruit only farmer closest to the corner of East Mall and Burnhamthorpe. She specializes in stone fruit and her peaches are so sweet and juicy. She pretty much sells seasonal tree fruits. I've bought pears, plums, nectarines, and peach from her. Each time I'm amazed how much better they are compared to the stores. Its so much juicier. Another fruit only farmer is right in front of the deli truck and in the centre aisle. I really love this one as I've bought strawberries, blueberries, cherries, peaches, nectarine and tons of apples... pretty much any and all fruits here. I love this vendor because they're so personable. If you're not sure, they even let you try the fruit before buying. Often they have specials and they'll be the cheapest than any other farmer (and sometimes even much cheaper than supermarket). Once in a while they'll have something unusual and it's great to see. They have fresh walnuts (even with the natural shell), quince, gooseberries, and chestnuts. There's also a little deli truck outside the library steps and it's manned by a cute Eastern Euro couple and they smoke and cure everything themselves. Their pancetta is perfect and so is their bacon. An honourable mention goes to one of the resellers actually... though they are not farmers, their prices and vegetable offering are better than supermarket. It's just as fresh as any other farmer stall but their prices are more inline with supermarket prices. They also are super generous with their sizes and they always remember me. Their service is always warm and friendly. I really love this place and I'll continue to come back to support the Ontario farmers. Though it is not the cheapest option, my tastebuds love it!
