We were looked Ng for a place for breakfast. Everything was closed so we took a drive and ended up in Kettle. Thank goodness we did because I've had one of the best breakfasts I've had in a very long time. Sandy's is obviously a local favourite, but it's not just the locals that love this place. It's a new favourite of mine and I'm sure anyone who walks in the door as well. The staff is amazing. You can hear them singing and talking in the kitchen. "What would you like in your coffee?" Sandy's is one of the VERY few places in Kettle Falls (even in Colville) that you can get breakfast on a Tuesday morning. It's fortunate for us because the other option, in town, was so busy, you couldn't get in the parking lot, nevermind inside. Don't let that sway you. Sandy's makes a great breakfast at a good price! I ordered the "DLX (deluxe?) Platter," which is your standard breakfast fare; eggs, meat choice (bacon), hash browns, and bread choice (sourdough). While we waited the nice lady poured me a cup of coffee. Now, I've been in quite a few diners and this is probably the smallest coffee cup on the planet. Still, REALLY good coffee. I would normally be concerned, but she came back often to refill so, okay. The plate arrived in reasonable time and looked excellent! The eggs were a perfect sunny side up, plentiful, crispy bacon and a nice pile of tasty hash browns. If that's not enough to convince you, get this ... THEY MAKE THEIR OWN JAMS!!! *insert 'mind blown' emoji here* Yep, she brought these little, single serve containers; each with a different, house-made jam: strawberry, cherry, nectarine, apricot and pear butter! I tried the pear butter first - AMAZING! The nectarine was equally good. I wish I'd tried the apricot or the dark cherry. But, there's always a next time - and there will be MANY next times. Sandy's is a staple for the area! The food is usually pretty good and fairly priced and they have the best ice cream I've ever had! Not only is the ice cream really good, it's also huge! You can't go wrong with a chocolate/vanilla swirl cone! On this occasion we had chicken strips as well as a grilled cheese on Sour Dough bread! The food was good and the ice cream really hit the spot afterwards. The staff is friendly and check in on you often! Stopped here three times this year. With horrible service didn't even bother to wait. Seems like nobody wants to work.

This is a place we've driven by many times but never stopped at. On a recent "corona cruise" a few weeks ago we social distanced ourselves all the way here from Spokane. I really, really wanted this to be better than it was. The menu is pretty massive and that might explain why our food was just MEH. So thanks to Yelp we have found this little gem super close to a secluded beach for a burger picnic lunch. What a fun time it was too! I love little "burger shacks." That very line is one of the first things I search for in a new city or in this case, our city. Sandy's is about an hour from Spokane and it is awesome. We called about 15 minutes from the time of arrival and the food was ready and piping hot when we got to the lake. Their ice cream cone changed the world for me. I am not much of a dessert person but vanilla soft serve has my heart. The food is everything that a burger shack should be. The deluxe burger was absolutely tasty and both the sweet potato fries and regular fries were delicious. Do not forget to try all their sauces. This restaurant is a joke. We stood at the counter ready to order for several minutes before we were acknowledged in any way, finally got an "I'll be right with you" and then proceeded to wait at least five minutes. The staff was dirty, the girl that took our order and brought out our food was covered in chocolate and various other goo from making shakes and not washing up after. We had questions about items on the menu and she had no idea what any of it even was. She brought us the wrong flavor milkshakes with the kids meals and when we told her the flavor was wrong she said "no it's the right flavor" The portion sizes were ridiculous for what I paid for this food. I ordered white bread for my BLT and got Texas toast, in what universe is Texas toast considered white bread? The service here is terrible, the food is sub par, and the prices are absurd. The one thing I want *most* when I'm on vacation is great food. Sure, sight-seeing, touristy stuff, special events, that's all good too.... But I've planned vacations before purely because of great food at the destination. It was no different on our recent trip up to WA State. We ate some awesome food throughout the weekend, with Sandy's Drive In standing out as our favorite stop. My boyfriend hadn't been to Sandy's in years and all he kept going on about was the delicious swirl ice cream cone at the end of the meal. Keeping this in mind, I ordered a mushroom-swiss burger with onion rings on the side. He had some awesome looking double-meat cheeseburger with French fries. The food came out fast and hot - and it was sooo good!! Service was totally on point and I was impressed at how clean it was everywhere, even the restroom, and how cute it was decorated inside. But it was the food that put the big grin on my face. Onion rings were perfectly crunchy and served with an awesome tarter sauce (okay, why have I never thought of that before??) My burger was juicy and flavorful too. Perfect amount of toppings on it! Finally... we made it to dessert. I have to agree with Fred; their soft serve bangs! He got a regular cone and I went with a mini of the chocolate and vanilla swirled ice cream. We've been looking for this around the Bay Area for months and they don't make it here!! But no problem, we'll be back in WA soon enough and we'll definitely be back at Sandy's once again when we go up. My advice: don't ever eat here. I stopped here out of mere desperation bc of the lack of options here in Kettle Falls. However, I've enjoyed drive ins in the past so I stopped to see if they were any good. I ordered a burger with fries and a sandwich. The burger was bare (I had asked for some of the toppings be omitted) so I politely asked if they could add tomato and lettuce and as I was standing there, I could see and hear the cook complain and say that I should "go home" if I didn't like it. I was shocked that she wouldn't simply just add the toppings I asked for, which would've taken 10 seconds. I was treated rudely and with disrespect and I will NOT be returning. I ate some of the burger and sandwich with my daughter and both were overly greasy and low quality. Just disgusting. I didn't have high expectations going in, but I left extremely disappointed. Don't go here. Just don't. Edited to add: my daughter and I both felt sick to our stomachs after we ate here. My daughter spent half an hour with her head over the toilet. read more

They have a nice variety of shake flavors. However they don't seem to have any mixins. For example you cannot get a rocky-road shake or a german chocolate shake because none of the shakes have nuts/marshmallows/coconut flakes/chocolate chips/cookie dough/et cetera... They seem to be soft serve ice cream with syrup flavoring mixed in. That said, they do taste good. I've tried the chocolate mint and it was good as well as mixed the coconut with chocolate and that was good. read more

Ive lived here most my life and Sandy's has pretty much always been here and they have hardly changed except their prices keep going way up . You have always had to wait forever and it's greasy and expensive . If you call ahead so you don't have to wait for 45 minutes , there is no pickup window . You have to wait in line anyway . Like really ? I have never , ever seen this anywhere but at Sandy's and with all these new "people" moving into the area it isn't getting any better . Ice cream is a big deal at Sandy's . Nommy , but again you have to wait forever. I pretty much quit going .Why don't they have an "ice cream window" especially during the summer . For icecream ONLY . Husband couldn't wait to take me to his favorite place to get a root beer float. When we got there, it was super busy, but the staff was friendly & clearly doing the best they could. We ordered a "wee" soft serve come to take back to our pup. The lady was very nice & thoughtful. She put it in a cup for us since it was over 100 degrees outside. She also put more than the standard "wee" serving size & the pup really appreciated it! My float was good & husband really enjoyed his milkshake. My only suggestion is that they take care of the garbage by the two outdoor service windows. The flies were really bad right where folks order & pick up food. read more

Sadly, today we tried something different at Sandy's Drive-In... chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, gravy, and salad. The frozen precooked steaks tasted like they were pre-heated a few times, and had steak that was about " thick, with 1/2" of breading. The gravy was the most disgusting flavor we've ever tasted. The mashed potatoes... well, they need to advertise potato flakes... these were not "mashed". The taco salad was good. Nothing quite like homegrown burger shops. Centered off the main road in Kettle Falls, this little place is classic diner food with an obvious love of experimentation. Their menu consists of a lot of the usual stuff, but you can tell they like to try new things as they also have crazy items like The Hog, which was exactly what I ordered. This was a 3 patty burger with a ton of bacon, ham, cheese, and veggies. It's basically a super meat burger and oh man, I was in heaven. The bacon was perfectly cooked to my liking, which is crispy, thin cut slices. The ham was sweet and moist and the burgers reminded me of Dick's burger patties back home. Plus, any place that serves tater tots gets a bonus star in my book. I love me some tots. I also got a banana chocolate shake, which had banana chunks in it and was delicious. It's always my go-to and this was no disappointment. Next time I'm in the area, I will for sure be stopping in again. Could not get anything to eat because they would not come to the window. Stood outside at the walk up window for quite a while behind another couple. After fifteen min one lady finally got a milk shake. Since nobody was doing anything I went to the window and said hi, can I order some food and the ladies in there looked at me like I committed some sort of faux pas. Several years back my girlfriend lived in Colville and I only got down to visit her a couple times each month. But, when I ever I went there, I would always drive past Sandy's, and either on the way to Colville or coming back, at some point during the trip, I would stop and get a Cheese Deluxe. Their Burgers are outstanding because of how they season them on the grill (garlic salt maybe?) which gives them a great flavor. Sometimes I would even get two and eat the second one when I'd got to the top of Sherman Pass. Their milkshakes are awesome as well, but I'm all about their burgers. My clam chowder was stone cold, they then put it in the microwave which caused the cream to curdle. Unable to eat it. My son got nachos. The pour over cheese was cold and the chili in it was not even warm. He bought a banana milkshake and proceeded to suck a lemon seed through his straw. The seed was already started to sprout. Horrible service. Stopped in for a "quick" lunch during travelling for work. Ordered and waited for almost 25 minutes for a simple fish sandwich. Finally asked where my food was as I was basically alone in the restaurant and couldn't understand what could be taking so long. They acted all weird and defensive and said there was a big drive thru order right before me. No apology, no "Oh sorry about the wait", nothing. Just odd. I asked, "Is the sandwich almost ready? We visit this little roadside, mom-and-pop restaurant when traveling to Kettle Falls. The restaurant's unassuming exterior belies the clean, smoke-free interior with comfortable booths and tables (and a clean bathroom). We're fond of their decent burgers and good root beer floats. If you like huckleberry ice cream you'll love the shake, although they have so many flavors you'll find everyone's favorite. Ive been going to Sandy's for maybe 30 years? They have always been slower then the 2nd coming ,and I have no idea why ,and it's just getting WORSE . During the summer a lot of people just stop for ice cream. Why don't they have an "ice cream" window? During certain times of the days at least . I shouldn't have to wait 30 minutes for an ice cream cone in 95 degree temps , with bad knees etc etc. I don't get the burgers any more , they have gotten outrageously expensive and the little "frozen" fries I can do without . $5.00 for a little bowl of frozen french fries? Serious? They have had a couple items that we would go there for, literally once a week. They quit selling that last year. That was a bummer . Yes, their ice cream is to die for , but they are always out of one or the other flavors and again the lines and wait just don't make it worth the trip any more . Prices keep going up, but my checks don't . BUT , it is only one of a few places to get food around here , so up to you . Just don't be expecting much , and expect a wait . Went to Sandy's Drive Inn this morning.. ordered at 9:18 - two cups of Oatmeal ,, We figured that would be relatively quick since we were short on time. BOY was I wrong ,, they were a bit busy .. but not bad .. most people in there had already been served. 15 minutes later I asked the waitress if the food was about ready. that we were running out of time. She said she would go check but she never came back with a report. I waited 10 more minutes now 25 minutes since we ordered. We weren't going to eat have time to eat it.. So I finally got up went to the order window and said I'll pay for the coffee ..but we can't wait any longer 25 minutes for a cup of oats is much to long to wait . Sorry..Well that waitress got all snooty with me and said 'WELL we have a crowd on the other side and it takes a lot of time and its first come first serve".. For those that don't know on Sundays they have a SELF serving Brunch on the other side. So WHY that would majorly affect the serving side I have NO idea. So I again restated that 25 minutes for a cup of Oats was still to long to wait.. left my money on the counter for the coffee and started to walk out, Then the waitress said.. "WELL If you are going to act like that Don't ever come Back" REAL Rude like. I feel I had FULL right to walk OUT. Any longer waiting and who knows how much LONGER I would have had to wait and I would have been late for Church. I was NOT rude to her I simply stated a fact. She should have simply apologized and said 'sorry it has just been one of those days .sorry'. and ALL would have been forgotten. BUT NO NOT her she git right down snooty and rude. WE spend well over $200 a month there.. and I Know LOTS of people in this town.. They will Lose not ONLY our business but NOW anyone else I can warn about their rudeness and slowness. The main thing that really upsets me is a family came in about 10 after we did and they were served about 5 min BEFORE I got up and walked OUT. So for that waitress to state first come first served is a LIE!! So be warned it is very HIGH priced for a burger ice cream joint.
