Owned and maintained by PGE (Portland General Electric). Be prepared to rough it a little here. The parking lot is approx half mile walk down a gravel path to get to the BEST fishing area, although there us an area that's more easily accessible with a small fishing pier. Then climb up over a grassy hill. There is a bathroom, but its a vault-style outdoor toilet (no running water or flushing toilets) so it gets real my smell my in the summer. Fishing is incredibly easy here. We caught our limit in less than 2 hours two days in a row. Obviously, they keep the lake well stocked, multiple times during the spring and summer.

We were told that if the roots of the fish became tangled, they would not replace them, and we were advised to bring our own equipment in a way that felt unnecessarily aggressive. The interaction was uncomfortable, even for the children with us. Based on our experience, we would not recommend this place. "We've visited this fish farm many times, but this visit was extremely upsetting. The staff refused to give us the equipment we needed and spoke to us in a harsh, unprofessional way. When the owner came over, he was aggressive, told me not to speak, and asked our whole group to leave -- including our two kids (9 and 11) who were checking in with us, and even my daughter's Girl Scout group who had not spoken to him at all. He raised his voice at the children, leaving them very upset. Based on this experience, we cannot recommend this place.

Other parks with day-use fees around Portland currently usually charge $5, but they do have an annual pass you can get for a certain group of parks if you plan on visiting them regularly. There is a restroom (not just a porta-potty, but an actual restroom. Yay!), a playground, baseball diamond, and lots of picnic tables. Some of the picnic tables have in-ground charcoal BBQ pits, too. They also have a picnic shelter you can pay to reserve. For hiking, they have a few different trails to choose from and all were very well-maintained when we visited. One of the trails is even accessible for folks with mobility issues, all flat and wide. The park & trails have plenty of huge trees for shade, and the big main trail goes along the creek in several places. There are even a few spots where you can hang out right along the creek shore. Aside from the easy accessible trail, I'd say the other trails are mild to medium in difficulty just due to some of the hilly inclines, but we saw families with younger kids walking them without a problem.

However, based on these two sections alone, this is a fantastic park for any and all water-based activities. For once, the $5 day use fee seems justified, considering all the things that it offers. Additionally, there are miles of hiking and horseback trails, picnic areas, camp sites, and plenty of open green spaces (shaded or otherwise) for parties and other outdoor activities. Barton Park: Beautiful River, Cozy Neighbors…read more 4 stars Put in, take out that's about all Barton Park is good for... and honestly, it does that pretty damn well. I'm giving Barton Park four stars, and the first two or three are basically for location, location, location. Sitting right on the Clackamas River, this place is absolutely beautiful and makes a great launching point for rafts, tubes, fishing, boating, camping, or just finding a way to cool your backside down during an Oregon summer. The Clackamas River has been part of this area's story for generations, from the pioneers traveling the old Barlow Road to the Chinook peoples and the Clackamas people who have long had a strong connection to this river. Today, Barton Park is still all about getting people connected to the water although these days we arrive with coolers, floaties, camping chairs, and sunscreen instead of covered wagons. For me, Barton is one of my favorite tubing spots. I love putting in at McIver and floating down to Barton, or going from Barton toward Carver. On a hot summer day, there's nothing better than climbing into that cold Clackamas water and letting the river do the driving. Now, the camping... that's where things get interesting. Privacy? Let's just say Barton believes in the concept of community. Our campsite was so close to the neighbors that after a while, I felt like we were all part of one giant dysfunctional family. You could hear everything babies crying, kids running around, conversations, people coming and going. And then there was the funny lady next door, who apparently had no problem providing free entertainment for the entire campground. The bathrooms can get packed, too, and if you're looking for peaceful solitude where all you hear is birds chirping and the river flowing, you might occasionally find yourself thinking, "I could have just stayed home and opened a window." But that's the trade-off. You're close to town, you've got the river right there, plenty of amenities, and a great place to spend a summer day. If you don't mind being packed in like a bunch of happy campers at a family reunion, Barton Park is your showboat. For me, the river makes it worth it. Four stars. Beautiful location, great access to the Clackamas, and one of my favorite places to cool off and float. Just don't come here expecting your campsite neighbors to be strangers you'll probably know their children's names, their bathroom schedule, and possibly their entire life story by the time you leave.

We inquired to be sure of which were discounted. There were two young employees working that day. One tried to help, but was clearly unsure about each thing we asked. We couldn't get the attention of the 2nd, as she was busy on her phone. They weren't unfriendly when we interacted, just complacent. The store didn't have a huge selection by any means, but things were fairly neat. We only visited the upstairs, so I've got no experience in their rentals. In the end we did walk away with new snow shoes, but I wasn't overly impressed on my first visit.
