We booked a room on Expedia for $57 which is a good rate for this room. But when we arrived the owner of the hotel said he can't give us a room at that rate. It's too low. He told us the rate was now $75 and wouldn't stop talking about all the reasons why he couldn't afford to hardly even stay in business. It was late and I finally agreed to pay the $75 rather than continue searching for a room. He charged me $80, not 75 and went on talking about all the problems he was having with customers, house keeping, local businesses, and on and on. The room was actually pretty clean for an older motel, but there were a total of zero outlets to plug in my sleep machine or my phone. The shower temperature was set to luke warm and the heat was off completely when we got to the room. It's pretty cold here this time of year. I was completely unsatisfied with my experience and cannot recommend this place to anyone. There are cheaper and nicer places in town. read more

Good-enough spot for an overnight. We stayed on 6/19/2021 in room 109. The clientele seemed to be travelers. The ice machine looked pretty rough (dirty on the outside) so I took a pass. I noted a trailer of chairs stored near the office, and not all the neon worked, which was disappointing. The owners are transplants from L.A. which was interesting because the husband used to work just a few miles from where I live. Strangely, they charge a $5 key deposit that you don't get back. I would not recommend this place. I stayed here before and it was acceptable. Not bad for a $50 room. However, on my most recent visit they wanted to charge me $40 more for my dog. $40? Online, through Expedia, they advertise $10. Very unprofessional people at the front desk were not willing to honor of the $10 per night dog fee. Very peculiar because it was 7:30 at night and there were there was 1 or 2 cars in the parking lot. read more

First of all really cheap, probably cheapest in town. The bathroom faucet felt like it was going to fall off & had some toilet flushing issues, no plunger provided. Other than that everything was perfect! Had an hdtv but didn't use, little fridge, 2 sitting areas, a heater-a/c combo heat worked fine. Bed was comfortable, internet worked well when I found the right one, 2.4ghz. They had 5 different lines LOL. So yeah not bad for the price! read more

NOT FOR NIGHT WORKERS!!! Apparently the owner has forgotten what it means to be a night shift worker. Got off late, so only had 2 hours to sleep before check out. 15 min before my alarm went off, they called the room to remind me when check out was. Really?? Add that to the $10 extra and accosting of my daughter when she showed up unexpectedly because she had gotten stranded in town (instead of driving the extra hour and a half home), demanding her to leave or give more money!! We reserved this motel in a small town, Grant, New Mexico, on the road when we decided to drive no further. It didn't seem too bad in the pictures since we needed a place fast. However, I can't tell you about the room because we never got that far. We were given a price of $66.18 from Expedia. When we went to pay, we were charged $78.00. We told the man and woman that that was incorrect and showed them the reservation with the correct price. After discussing the situation in a language we didn't know, the man changed the price in the credit card machine to only five dollars over the correct price. Then he strongly told me to put my card in because they get some other add-ons. I told him again that was wrong and again he argued vehemently with us as he tried to get us to put the card in the machine. I told them we would just find somewhere else to stay and he said to leave which we did. As we were getting in the car, the man came out and said to come back in and he would give us that rate this one time. Hahahaha. We left. For the record, the outside looked horrible something from the 1930's. I think we were fortunate that we left. Stay at your own risk. P. S. When reading this review remember, you get what you pay for. I booked a room through Priceline based on one criteria, it was the cheapest available in town. Many hotels had been full up for the Mt. Taylor Quad and most of the rooms left in town were $100+. So, I'm not sure if this should be characterized as a "hooker hotel" or "flea bag," but, all kidding aside. The room wasn't that bad, the shower worked, the tv worked, the bed was adequate, and my wake up call came on time. Add to that, the front desk was polite and efficient. All for $40 + tax. If you just need a place to stay for the night, why not? Save yourself some cash and go have a nice breakfast. read more

So many problems with this motel. Just to start if you are wanting a Route 66 motel this is NOT it. It's on a side road and full of sketchy people. Upon check in the owner did not honor our hotels.com reservation and charged us more for our room. Getting into our room there were crickets inside, the floor felt like you could fall through it in areas, holes in the walls, the toilet was duck taped down, there were 2 washcloths, 1 hand towel, and 1 bath towel (this is important for later), the ac did not work, and you could tell something was spilled in the fridge and never cleaned. It was so nasty we didn't even shower, but did use 1 washcloth and the hand towel which were left on the bathroom floor when we left. A few hours after we checked out and left we noticed an extra $20 charge come through from the motel so we called to find out what it was. The owner proceeded to accuse us of stealing all of the towels and washcloths from the room and called us thieves and said he had video footage of us stealing them. #1 we wouldn't even put our bags on the floor much less take anything from the room with us, #2 if he had cameras proving any of it he would be implying there were cameras in the room and bathroom. We saw other people complaining in reviews about how he charges and it's no joke. We believe he targets tourists passing through to get as much money as he can because he knows that once they get a few hours from town that they won't come back. I would never recommend Sands to anyone and would advise everyone to steer clear. read more

I have to give this five stars because after spending four nights in various hotels, I was impressed by the simplicity and vintage charm of this hotel. Firstly, if you are looking for a hotel off the Grants exit, you'll be surprised how much they try and charge you for a two bedroom. They charge per person or they just charge too much. I found this hotel a little off the exit; I called and headed over once I got the decent price quote of under fifty bucks. Secondly, as I mentioned, I had been on the road for four days and after spending the night in three other hotels, this one was impressively clean. I had paid top dollar for other hotels, and this hotel won. Now, this isn't the Ritz. It's a vintage hotel. It's rooms aren't super huge, but they are clean and safe. That's really the most important quality about a hotel. Oh, and A/C. It has A/C. So, if you're looking for a charming hotel for a human price, check this place out! I'm being generous with two stars, but in the end we did get a good night's sleep, and we got to watch television. We also only paid 34 bucks through Priceline- so I can't complain TOO much. But I will complain. We had the opportunity to see 2 rooms at the Sands last night because our first room (125) had a MICE infestation. I could have looked past the dirty floors and bathroom, the clicking refrigerator, or the mold - but no, I was not going to sleep in that bed after a mouse jumped up on the nightstand next to my head... and another scurried past us behind the dresser! Rang the office about 10 times with no answer before going to ring the bell. A sleepy man answered, we explained about the mice- he didn't seem surprised, nor did he apologize- just handed us a key to another room and shuffled back through the door. Second room was fine- dated and again, dirty.. Shower had hair all over the walls, but at least there were no (visible) mice! read more

Was placed in the 'Elvis Room' (123), with not one, not two, but THREE portraits of Elvis on the wall! AND a certified and notarized copy of Elvis' Marriage Certificate! Bonus! Make sure not to turn towards the 'Sands' sign ON Route 66, but to the direction where the giant arrow is pointing. Fresh coffee, orange juice, and delicious mini-donuts await your morning awakening. Front desk staff was super friendly, as was the small puppers that greeted me when I arrived from behind the desk. When I arrived, it was very warm in the upper 70s, and the AC worked great. By morning it was snowing, and I can attest to the heater working very well, too! read more

The reason this motel gets 4 stars is because it is very inexpensive and extremely clean. It is a great value. Though the decor are dated and the room was dark, I have zero complaints. It was clean and zero bugs. For about $40/night, it was a great place to stay. It is safe and the staff are friendly. I highly recommend this place. I stayed here for about 5 nights in May 2019. Much older motel on old Route 66. We agree with the reviews saying it was very clean. Keep in mind that "clean" doesn't mean new, fancy, or in excellent repair. For example, there was a fair amount of jiggling needed to stop the toilet from running. This is a great value motel that offers all the basics you need to get clean, sleep, and do some work. The towels are white, fluffy, and new. The room had a fridge and microwave. The internet access was fast and reliable. Ask for the WiFi password when you check in. The parking lot is huge so if you are towing, don't hesitate to stop. There's an excellent Mexican restaurant right around the corner that serves all three meals. read more

I found this hotel in a coupon book and was attracted by the word "Elvis". After checking in, the room was bare. The soap was about 0.1 inch thick. Shampoo was in a tiny package and was good for one head! There was no coffee in the room! But there was a microwave with dials and a small fridge. After a day of long drive, I thought I would have a good night sleep. No! The bed was terrible! I kept dreaming about some bugs! Breakfast included juice, coffee, milk, and 4 boxes of tiny donuts. So after reading other reviews on the road we decided to call ahead and get a room. Off freeway a bit but looked like it would be ok. Front desk lady was really nice but would not accept 10% from yelp. When we got to room Sheets are stained top to bottom. Toilet runs, Carpet stained, Chair stained and felt dirty even tho it had been cleaned. Very dated. Upon pulling bed spread down found hair all over so we and got new sheets from desk. Again stained sheets but they were clean just very old and needed to be replaced. Ended up getting my dogs blanket to sleep on. Would not come back. This is a historic Route 66 motel that Elvis stayed in on his honeymoon trip. It has some negative reviews, yet they seem to be more that it is not the Hilton. The price is good, and a real value. I found the room to be clean, spacious and quite. They offer free wifi, breakfast and high quality customer service. The rooms have full cable, microwaves and nice size refrigerators. If you are traveling and want a hot shower and comfortable bed, this is a perfect choice. Stayed here June 2016 on Route 66 road trip. The husband and wife owners are the best! Super friendly made you feel right at home. Great breakfast donuts orange juice cereal and coffee and its ready early so you can head on out. Microwave and fridge worked great in room ,beds were comfy slept very well. Room and bathroom was clean , linens clean. Watched movies on HBO. It's a great value and you feel like you stepped back in time along the mother road ! I would definitely stay again. read more

The main reason I'm giving this Two Stars instead of one is that our room was so spacious.

The bed was clean with clean sheets. Clean towels. Floors vacuumed. Did the white glove test and was spotless. Even the bottom of the toilet is clean. Yes I know I'm a clean freak! The people complaining about how old the building is I just have one thing to say...It's cheap and clean! My two fav words lol Besides I think the older look (has a cool 1950s look) is actually kinda COOL! There weren't many guests at the hotel the day I arrived. The town seems kind of abandoned in general. Super Quiet!! I just moved from Los Angeles and kinda enjoyed the quiet! Oh and I requested a non-smoking room. I can't comment on the condition of rooms that allow guests to smoke. Oh and it has a microwave, mini frig and a flat screen tv with cable that includes HBO and some other channels. I was hesitant at first as I have a phobia of hotels and motels in general. She let me inspect the room before I agreed to stay and was super nice about it. read more
