    Get some painters tape people...
    Marissa D.

We are traveling along route 66 with two dogs hence the reason we are staying in Motel 6's since they accept pets. Otherwise, trust me, I would not be staying at them. Like I said in my last review of a Motel 6, I know that I should not expect too much when it comes to these places but some of the stuff I'm finding is absolutely ridiculous. You'll see my pictures below. My main complaint of this place is that when you turn on the air-conditioning, heat comes out. Carpets are torn up, a mattress spring was poking out of my bed and jabbed me, torn up carpet, & bless their hearts for trying to paint but look up painting tape guys... The sink looks like an angry person with a knife got a hold of it. And the showerhead, like the last Motel 6, is filthy. It's better than not having a roof over my head but I don't understand how this stuff gets overlooked and/or they don't care. With summer coming up they better fix the air conditioning or they're going to have major complaints and refunds on their hands. I hate leaving negative reviews because you'll see the most of my reviews are positive so I will leave this review on a positive note... The parking lot is newly paved and there is a Walgreens directly next-door for your needs. It is also pet friendly. Has laundry machines to use. Flatscreen TV in my room with Direct TV.

When I asked about a place to watch sunset he enthusiastically grabbed a map and explained how to get to the Sandstone Bluffs, which was absolutely perfect and just what I wanted. The room had a microwave and mini-fridge, and the towels felt new and surprisingly fluffy for an inexpensive motel. The signage is very retro-Route 66, which I love. The place needs a little work, but it looked like renovations were in progress; they were working on the front office while I was there. (That's always a good sign to me, when I see an investment being made in a property) This *is* an old school motel, but as long as your expectations are reasonable you'll be satisfied.

The room didn't smell or seem funky, and was clearly cleaner than those in some of the big boy chain motels off Interstate 40. Plush new towels, expertly folded. The Princess Queen was throughly satisfied with the accommodations. She gives it a four-paws-up, which, due to unregrettable anatomical limitations, equates to 4 Stars. Were she a male, she might have been able to give the South West Motel a 5-Star review, but that's another journey.

The hotel was very careful on Hotels.com to make it look like the rooms were not on the outside of the hotel, I absolutely would have chosen somewhere else had I known the doors to the rooms were not inside the hotel. I feel like this was intentional so they automatically lose a star for that. I genuinely only stayed here because I didn't want to stay in Albuquerque, thinking it would be safer outside of there. We checked in late, like 9:15pm or so. The lady at the front desk was so friendly and sweet that she deserves 5 stars. The lobby area was clean, and so was the outside of the hotel. The room was fine, it was basic but clean. The bedding was clean and so were the walls. The ac did not work very well, so that kind of sucked but I can deal with it since we weren't staying a significant amount of time here and it wasn't insanely hot. The problem lies in the area of the hotel and the clientele that stays here. In the parking lot there's people just sitting on parking blocks smoking and staring, lots of people walking the halls so all you see is shadows of people walking past your window which is a little unsettling when you have 2 kids with you. Definitely wouldn't recommend staying here unless you're cool with sketchy people going past your room all evening.

This hotel is old, but has had some needed renovations that you can see in contrast to the old structure. It's perfect for the night. The sheets are white, crisp, cotton, and most importantly, clean. Solid beds, firm pillows, and large rooms. The people in the dining room were super friendly at 6:30am and the food was hot and fresh! If you're passing through on a budget and aren't prissy, this place is a good stop to rest your head and fuel up. If you're put off by old hotels, slightly dated decor, and good hospitality, then I suggest you spend twice the amount for the holiday Inn down the street. .

I'm glad I didn't--but if you pay more than $50 a night for these rooms, you will be disappointed. Pros: The front desk was very accommodating in helping me get adjoining rooms since we are traveling with young children. The rooms are spacious, clean. Each room comes equipped with a rather large refrigerator, and a microwave. I thought it was funny that the TV appears to be about 30 years old :-) Cons: when a hotel says "free breakfast" you assume it's for everyone in your room. Not so at this hotel. Each room comes with two vouchers. So if you are traveling with four people per room, two of you are out of luck. The hotel is in dire need of updating. The curtains and sheer curtains are torn and dusty. The bathroom tubs are three notches above awful. Pool and Jacuzzi are out of service. Air-conditioning in one of our rooms did not work. That being said, we were not unhappy with the room because we got such a good price. When you were just traveling through, it's not that big of a deal. This is not a place I would stay for a week. Overnight, it's no big deal.
