We had a decent stay here while traveling with our foster dog to her new home. The price was good, pets stay free, room clean and maintained, and parking easy. Oh man. We've stayed in some rough motels before, but this one holds a special place on our list. After an exceptionally long day in the truck, racing for home on our family road trip, the likelihood of me falling asleep behind the wheel and killing my wife and children in a horrid crash was becoming a forgone conclusion. With heavy eyes and a heavier heart, we pulled into this small town and started the process of trying to find somewhere to sleep for a few hours. After striking out with no vacancy at three other places, we were told to call this Motel 6 and see if they still had a room. Imagine our relief to find we got the second-to-last room... sure it was a "smoking room", but the other room had no working A/C. I was too tired to argue. The small parking lot was full, with several vampires and miscreant idiots wandering around, probably trying car doors and looking for half smoked butts on the ground. We high tailed it to our room upstairs... ... shoulda just pulled off and slept in the truck. The room was small, dirty, and reeked of smoke and mold. Assorted stains, splashes, and sprays could be found on virtually every surface. The carpet looked like someone had performed an oil change in the room. Boogers, urine stains and poop streaks graced the bathroom. Need I go on? The room was clearly not cleaned before our arrival. I went back to the car and got the kids' sleeping bags to cover the bedding (after stripping everything to make sure there were no bedbugs), and we slept for a couple of hours with the lights on. We are traveling along route 66 with two dogs hence the reason we are staying in Motel 6's since they accept pets. Otherwise, trust me, I would not be staying at them. Like I said in my last review of a Motel 6, I know that I should not expect too much when it comes to these places but some of the stuff I'm finding is absolutely ridiculous. You'll see my pictures below. My main complaint of this place is that when you turn on the air-conditioning, heat comes out. Carpets are torn up, a mattress spring was poking out of my bed and jabbed me, torn up carpet, & bless their hearts for trying to paint but look up painting tape guys... The sink looks like an angry person with a knife got a hold of it. And the showerhead, like the last Motel 6, is filthy. It's better than not having a roof over my head but I don't understand how this stuff gets overlooked and/or they don't care. With summer coming up they better fix the air conditioning or they're going to have major complaints and refunds on their hands. I hate leaving negative reviews because you'll see the most of my reviews are positive so I will leave this review on a positive note... The parking lot is newly paved and there is a Walgreens directly next-door for your needs. It is also pet friendly. Has laundry machines to use. Flatscreen TV in my room with Direct TV. read more

*** ROACHES, ROACHES, ROACHES *** The absolute worst motel I've ever NOT stayed at. I got there & paid an outrageous price for the room. I went up to shower and lay down as I was on the road too long and needed rest. I went to shower, nothing out of the ordinary and when I got out there was a roach crawling up the wall. I immediately went down and told the front desk I wanted a full refund. The owner said he would have to charge me $20 for the cleaning fee, I objected and said it was not my problem his motel was infested with roached and he reluctantly agreed to refund the full price. Hey at least I got a shower out of it. DON'T STASY HERE UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR BELONGING TO GET INFESTED! read more

Stopped in here while traveling from Phoenix to Kansas with my 2 small dogs. Denise was very friendly and professional. I requested a handicap room and was both surprised and pleased with my room. The room looked recently remodeled. A microwave and sm refrigerator was an added bonus. There was an area to walk the dogs just across the parking lot. It was very quiet on a Friday night. I felt welcome and safe staying here. I missed the coffee pot in the room, but was offered available coffee at 6 am. Yes there are some nice, clean motels to stay at, that are pet friendly and affordable. This Motel 6 is one! read more

The most minimal motel room I have experienced. Clean. Dirty windows, old single pane in aluminum that did not slide open. No morning coffee Bathroom only had tiny bar of soap, no shampoo. Towels were provided. Cabinets had only open shelves, no drawers. No closet for hanging clothes. Sheets amazingly coarse. Floors bare cold flooring no carpet. We are moving cross country, and drove in the major snowstorm in New Mexico. We made it as far as Grants and desperately needed a room. My family of 5 and 3 dogs were welcomed with kindness and open arms in terms of being able to get a room. We couldn't be more greatfull for the wonderful people who helped us with accomodations. They seem to have remodeled since some of the prior reviews. However, I asked for quiet, so they put a family of what seems like 10 people next to my room and it's nonstop noise. I think there's another one upstairs, so I'm surrounded. Also, if I had known, during a global pandemic, that this place had central air - when it had been 95 degrees out, I never would have booked. I'm absolutely terrified that recirculated air through an old system is going to have COVID. Desk clerk was nice and the room was clean, but the air situation is not good and seems to have not been fixed in years. Now it's a potential health threat. I'm shutting it off and roasting for the night. Not fun. I should have just gone elsewhere and paid more. read more

Overall OK, but the room we got had a broken air conditioner. The sink also had cracks in it with some sort of rust colored substance in the cracks (maybe it was rust?) Bed felt like sheet rock. I reported the air conditioner and they offered to move us to a different room. When I got to the new room, I found my newly programmed card key didn't work. Back to the office, where there were 3 people now waiting to check in. I had to wait 20 minutes just to get my key reprogrammed--something that should've been done right in the first place. The office staff was polite enough, but one of them left her shift while there was a pile of people lined up, leaving only one person at the counter. The second room also had the same rust colored cracks in the sink, so there appears to be deferred maintenance. I was also not too fond of Motel 6's new check-in procedure, which requires you fork over your driver's license so they can scan the magnetic strip for who knows what reason. Really, you have my credit card number, home address, telephone number, and car information. I don't think you need my driver's license, too. read more

Never again. We got stuck in New Mexico because of a snowstorm and this was the closest and cheapest hotel we could get to from where we were on the freeway. It was pretty dumpy, even for cheap motel standards. There was some kind of dried red substance in the bottom of our ice bucket, no shampoo or conditioner in the bathroom and the room was super small and smelled weird. What really pissed me off about this place was how they nickel and dime you. Want a room with a microwave? That's extra. Wi-fi? Also extra. I was just going to tether my phone and use its internet, but strangely when in the room none of us could get cell service. Walked outside and service was fine. Weird coincidence? We ended up springing for the internet ($3/day) which was slow, inconsistent, and made you log into some proxy thing to use. So much for secure data. Our cheap hotel ended up being $47 after everything was tallied. We were very happy to leave this motel and get out of New Mexico. read more

I like this Motel 6, and I like Motel 6's in general. This one is really great tho, and I stayed here last night. Of course, the best thing is that it is in New Mexico and it is in the shadow of Mount Taylor. Such an awesome area and the local communities are wonderful. Somehow, the light is just different in New Mexico. The front desk ladies are super helpful and friendly and it is very clean and efficient. Good price and away from the interstate a decent amount. Several years ago I stayed here during a huge snow storm that closed the highway - I called them in advance and was able to get a room. With everyone stranded on the road they could have charged $100 or whatever they wanted but they just charged the normal modest amount. I will always have this hotel on my 'places to stay' list. read more

Stayed at a motel 6 the night before we stayed here and it was much nicer. When I called I was told they had a room downstairs but when I arrived I was informed that was innacurate and there were no nonsmoking rooms downstairs. The heat ran non stop even with the thermostat on cool. There is never shampoo or tissues but that is standard for motel 6. The sheets were clean, overall the whole room was clean just crappy pillows and a thin blanket. The room smelled as if there was smoke smell coming through the vents. read more

This is the second time we stayed here first in the winter it was so hot and they had the Ac off. Now it's the end of summer and 39 degrees outside and they have no heat so bring your extra blanket!! Other than that I love this place. Comfy bed and nice hot showers. read more

This place was very sketchy. The carpet in my room was disgusting and filled with stains. I wouldn't even walk barefoot. Lamps were dusty. Overall the place was just older and beat down. The televisions were the old school box tvs. It's due for an upgrade for sure. Only reason we stayed was because we needed sleep and a place to stop with my dogs. Will not return. read more

in need of the motel 6 overhaul but besides that.... 1 the water pressure is awesome..2 you can walk around barefoot and your feet wont turn dirty..3 it is clean. 4the guest laundry is reasonably priced. i will warn you that if you are next to a smoking room the bathroom exhaust fan will pullin the smoke from next door but it wont make it past the door if shut. for $45/night during business days it is hard to beat! read more

I feel like when writing a review for motel 6 it should be in comparison to other motel 6's and other equivalently prices motels. In that regard this is an outstanding value. While driving accross oaklahoma to California as it was long journey we decided to take a place to sleep and guess what the sleep became even worst as the room had some small insects bitting even after paying a bulky amount just to sleep we had a bad night And the other thing which was funny was the lady at front desk asking for extra money to use wifi. Wow that was surprising as we have seen almost free wifis in each n every motels or hotels we had stayed before. Never ever refer this place to anyone. read more

We stayed here January 2013. After a long drive from Plano Texas on our way home to Las Vegas Nevada, we stopped here to rest for the night with a reservation. It was near 9 pm and as I sat there in our car counting out cash to give to my husband to go and pay for the room (don't like using our cards for fear of being overcharged) there was a knock on our car window. Before I could tell my husband NOT to roll down the window, he did and standing there was a man with a hoodie begging for money. My husband gave him 50 cents. After we got our door card and drove around to find our room, I noticed one of the rooms with the door open and I could see that it was furnished with things that clearly indicated the people in the room "lived" in the unit. And low and behold, who was standing in this very room, the guy who just begged us for money!!. The first room we had was absolutely nasty, it reeked so badly of cigarette smoke, my eyes started to burn and I felt like I couldn't breathe. We called the front desk and they switched our rooms without any issues. The second room was so much better! No cigarette odors and for the most part it was clean and our socks did not turn black after walking on the carpet. Although not free, the WiFI is excellent and I never once experience problems with it. I would not recommend this area for anyone with children. Alot of the businesses here are closed and boarded up. Walmart is RIGHT down the street as well as Dollar Tree. We stopped there to get snacks for the road the next morning as we were leaving. The front desk reps were very understanding and friendly. I have stayed at other motel 6s and never really encountered any other problems. However, the first room they gave us was unclean and dirty so we had to go and get a new room and the second room had hair lying around the bed so either house cleaning staff is doing a bad job or it's the management. Motels shouldn't be dirty and unclean. I gave it two stars due to the fact that it did its job, I needed a place to stay for a few hours and it's fairly cheaper than the others. I will not be staying at motel 6 in the future. I recommend staying at other hotels near by. read more

This hotel was a mess. The room smelled so bad. The bathroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned . The toilet had urine and hair all over it. A pubic hair in the shower. The towel looked like it was stepped on, folded , and placed back in the rack, the air conditioner was busted, and the phone was in the room but did not work. I honestly dont know how this place gets 5 stars! We booked 3 rooms from 7/2-7/7 for 7 adults and 4 kids (ages 16, 13, 3 and 1). The first day we were there the manager Alex was constantly patrolling. Room 134 is super dirty, I understand its pet friendly but a carpet shampoo every now and then would work wonders, the weather strip under the door was partially missing so there was an open space underneath the door. The beds are full not queen size. Cribs are not available, there isnt a blow dryer, no ironing board, no iron. Rooms 147 and 150 were HOT AS HELL to the point my family had to go to Walmart to purchase fans. The second day we were there a housekeeper went to the pool where 3 adult family members and 3 children were. The housekeeper told them only 2 adults were registered to that room so everyone else would have to get out, supposedly the front desk told her to open her big mouth. When I went to the front desk, the 2 polite ladies at the front knew nothing of this and thought it was actually weird that she would say anything. This same evening our family was going to a 4th of July celebration and my oldest son realized his wallet was missing along with one of the biggest fireworks he had purchased. We thought it was odd that anyone would even go into his room while they were swimming especially after we told them not to clean 134 or 150. An FYI there isnt any cameras on the property only in the front lobby so keep your belongings with you at ALLLLL times! The managers could care less and showed total disregard! We checked out and took our business somewhere else! This place has to be one of the worst motels in Grants! read more

My husband and I had a horrible experience at this hotel. We visited in early October when the weather was still in the mid 80's. When we got into our room it was stiflingly hot and we immediately turned on the AC. After a while we realized there was no change in the room temp. When my husband called the front desk the girl told him NM was entering the "cold months" and so they had shut off the AC in the rooms (amazingly, the AC was still on in the office). We had to sleep with our window open with no screen and that barely brought the temp down 10 degrees. The staff was unapologetic. Last stay at a motel 6 for us. read more

I stayed here after my car broke down right outside town. The staff was AMAZING. They were so friendly and fast and when the front desk ladies found out I was a young female traveling alone they made it a priority to put me right above the office in the front of the building just in case I needed anything. The next morning I tried to check out at check-out time (noon). I was going to go study at a restaurant while I waited for my family to come for me and my car but the front desk lady (a different one from previous night) offered to let me stay an extra couple of hours in the room while I waited. I travel through Grants, NM twice per year. This is the worst Motel 6 I have ever stayed in across the US. They never have the AC working. Just a seedy dive. I've complained through Motel 6 questionnaires but this place never changes. Read the other reviews on here. Drive on. read more

Besides the fact that there was no AC And only the heat would blow, and the front desk wasn't helpful in that... The smell in the room was atrocious. I woke up half way through the night bc there were BUGS in my BED! The phone cord was ripped from the wall, so in order to make any calls, I had to hold the phone jack into the wall, otherwise it was in a state of disconnect at all times. Don't try to watch any TV, all you get is a fuzzy picture... Guess I should have brought my rabbit ear antennae from the 80's. This was such a shock from the stay I had in Arkansas in the same chain... That one was impeccably clean. This one, not so much and bugs???? I can't shower enough now. I probably wouldn't have even reviewed my stay here, but....I had some trouble making the reservation through booking.com and tried to cancel it, but was not successful. When I got to Motel 6, I explained the problem I had and they said it was fine, they had a room to match what I needed, so I paid for my room for that night. The pool, which I wasn't going to use anyway, was out of service. The air conditioner, which I wasn't going to use anyway, was out of order. The carpet was worn, the edges around the room were not vacuumed well, I needed a room for my dog, and the one I got had old dog food under the bed. There was no shampoo in the bathroom, no tissue for nose blowing. I only mention that since other Motel 6's do provide both. The TV was old, the picture and sound both crummy. The only good thing about the whole place was that the receptionist was very sweet and nice. However, the reason for my review, is they went ahead and charged me for the night I did not stay there, and refused to reimburse me even though I explained up front what happened.
