For the price you really cant complain. It's a clean, safe, hotel with complimentary water bottles in the room. Downfall is the bathroom was real small. Toilet was placed in a tiny corner where you have to squeeze your hand through the side to flush because the wall hugs the toilet. There was no light in the shower area. There is free parking but very few spots so if its fully booked you likely wont get a spot. There was also a strand of hair and spots on the bed sheet. If you're on the larger size, you may not be comfortable staying here. But for $80 I would stay here again. If the price jumped up $10 I would look elsewhere. read more

I reserved a room for my son who was traveling to visit friends. He needed an early check in (1pm) the owner told me "that is ok to just come in book online. So my son got an uber to the motel. When he went to check in the owner was upset he paid online through booking.com he told my son he had to charge him an extra 50 for the 1pm check in and he should have paid them not online. My son had no choice not having a car and not being from LA so he paid. read more

Horrible experience, my group of 4 originally had a 2 bedroom suite with 1 queen in each room (room18) theclilerk was upset because we got a better desk on line and asked a $40 deposit, when she had already told me there was no deposit. i agreed and paid the only cash deposit. after checking in 2 of 4 of us walked in first thing we nothings was the sticky floor, then the smell it was from the dirty water or moo that was used on the floor. The clerk said no other visitors only people were allowed were my group of four. Ok, that evening we had a grocery delivery and my friend wanted to make sure everything was right. So the delivery guy waited while we did that. During that night we realized that there were roaches getting in to our groceries and We went to buy some raid roach spray. Which we used every where including our bags. We had to sleep with the lights on. The rest of our group decided not to stay there because of what we told then (can't blame them). The next morning around the lady came knocking on the door saying that the rate had gone up and additional $40 and I lady we leaving because you have roaches and she yelled well take then with you. She continued to yell and blame us for having a 2nd vehicle "keeping" that from renting out another room and that was why she up the rate. I should mentioned that another 2 parties also left that same hour after the poor handling by the management the clearly lives there! read more

THIS PLACE WAS THE MOST HORRIBLE HOTEL TO STAY FOR ONE NITE!!! IF YOU GOT KIDS PLEASE DON'T BRING THEM HERE!!! I booked my reservation thru booking.com but the app didn't say anything about dogs. So I called to ask if they accept dogs, I talked to the owners wife and she said "yes" they accept dogs and "yes" they charge a fee and I said "ok" and handed up and proceeded to make my reservation thru booking.com, when I got to the hotel to check in the wife was at the front desk and she was helping me check-in BUT when she realized that I had booked my reservation thru booking.com she all of a sudden caught an attitude! She started to yell at me asking " why I had to make the reservation thru booking.com?" I said "because I fucking felt like it" and then I asked her "was there a problem with me booking thru that app?!!!" AND then I told her I have two dogs. One is a service dog and the other is not. She said she doesn't care about a service dog and she still wanted to charge me for my service dog. So, smiling I asked her again "are you sure you want to charge me for my service dog?!!!!!" And her husband told her to move and he proceeded to take care of me. The husband is nice but when he feels his wife is looking at him he starts to act rude as well! I hope they BOTH know it's against the law to charge for service dogs in California. The owners are both rude!! As soon as I opened the room door my daughter saw died roaches on the floor. I fall asleep around 10 and my daughter stayed up and she said after 11 pm she heard some people outside our door, so she checked and saw crackheads smoking crack in front of our room door while we sleep. JUST BAD ALL THE WAY AROUND! NO WONDER THEY ONLY HAVE CRACKHEADS AT THEIR HOTEL!!! They want to yell and be rude to people like someone won't do something to them!! They lucky I didn't feel like going to jail that night cuz I was this close to tell his bitch ass wife to come outside and keep yelling at me to my face!! PUNK BITCH!! read more

Horrible do not come here! I came last night with my friend and they were staring us down the whole time. Only two of us were staying here but our other friends came with us to drop us off and they kept asking if we were sure only 2 people were staying with them even tho we told them so many times. They had 3 separate people ask us and we assured them. Our check in took about 10 minutes because they were being really suspicious and weird. When they finally got us our room, a guy went inside before we did and it made us girls feel uneasy. He also kept circling around outside our room and the other workers kept staring at us. Nonetheless, we went out and left our things but we never stayed there for the night, it was too suspicious. Why were they stalking us ?? What if he put a camera in our room or did something?? We ended up staying at another place with our other friends instead because we did not want to risk it. The next morning when we came to check out and grab our things, it was the same thing all over again of them asking if it was only two of us. We DIDNT even stay there !! DO NOT COME AND WASTE YOUR MONEY. p.s. the room smelled disgusting and the sink didn't even work. read more

It was so bad, I didn't last 10 mins. And 5 of those 10 mins were basically reading all the bad reviews. But I was in this room. It smelled like a cigarette took a s... on the floor and the roaches all took turns carrying said s... to different parts of the room. What was on the curtain, you ask? I wish I had an answer for you. I didn't even feel like fighting cause they definitely made it clear. "No refunds" because as soon as you see the room, they know you're coming back for your money. Just don't do it. I found another place 10 mins from the airport and immediately went there. This place was $120 as he told me he would price match (which he didn't). And a $20 deposit from an ATM they basically get a kick out of watching you fumble with. And the parking was a legit phone booth, which some guy who paid them to simply sleep in his car in wouldn't move so it literally jammed all of us in there. I had to escape ASAP. I'm not joking when I said 10 mins. First 5 for reviews, the other 5 trying to get my vehicle out of there without running through the wall. 1/5 shouldn't be the lowest score possible. read more

Wouldn't give back our deposit until we made the bed ourselves when checking out, then continues to give us a lecture on how we should leave the room how we got it and saying that the housekeeper won't clean it so she would have to clean it herself. This place was disgusting and dirty. The place had roaches in the mini fridge, the shower and the microwave. Woke up to see my daughter had bed bug bites on her legs, not to mention the rooms look like a s... room read more

The room smelled really bad, staff wasn't very friendly, and they wouldn't give us back our $40 deposit. Overall a scam, not worth the price. Better off getting a regular hotel room next time read more

First off he was charging us more and more starting at one price and raising it for no reason for a one night stay. Didn't have any bugs, but smelled like straight smoke in the room, there was always a bunch of water in the bathroom coming out of the shower because the shower curtains aren't the right ones to keep water in, the shower head was dirty, when we turned on the air conditioner it smelled like even more smoke so they haven't changed the filters. There was graffiti all over the front door and bathroom. Honestly worst experience I've encountered. Definitely push the extra money to just get a regular hotel. And on top of that the guy tried to charge us for a " vanity light " we just unplugged because where it was plugged in looked sus. And said we broke it and it turns out it was already broken. We didn't even get the cash deposit back. Honestly never going to a motel again. read more

I didnt get to go inside but when my boyfriend went to go ask for availability the front desk lady was pretty rude. If you're on a budget this is not the one for you. A room is $110 not counting the $20 cash deposit read more

The place has very bad upkeep. Bathroom doors have broken door knobs, walls and carpet look worn, and customer service is terrible. I was staying there for a week, and no one ever came to clean my room, offer me new towels, replace the bathroom with toilet paper, or anything. My wife had to borrow the helps equipment to clean our room. For $350 a week, I expected better service. The owner/manager is rude. I asked for toilet paper in the middle of the night, and he was upset because he said he was trying to sleep. Its wasn't my fault they didn't offer us any the entire week we were there. He told me to come back during the day (which was the time I was usually at work). Extremely bad experience, and I don't recommend this place to anyone. read more

First time here, found this place on Expedia then on yelp. Looks run down on the outside but inside the rooms are clean, stylish, quiet, they are updating a lot of the rooms. Even the smoking rooms smell clean. I took my girlfriend here on date night, she likes the finer things in life and she was happy with this place. Nick helped me out, excellent customer service, honest, showed me a couple rooms to my liking. Parking space, safe, Starbucks across the street. Will definitely come back again! Very happy with this place, pictures are accurate. read more

I had a great experience.. thank you Sand's motel read more

they make it so complicated And stole my money. I don't recommend this place at all. Save your money. if I can give negative star I would.

An oasis in the middle of the city. The friendly staff keep the motel immaculate! It has an inner courtyard that keeps the place very quiet. The room is cozy and warm. Across the street is a market, Asian food, and a Starbucks. Next door is a wonderful bakery! We stayed here when my father-in-law was in the hospital in Lynwood and the motel was a short drive and a great rate. We will stay there again gladly. Thanks to a great staff! read more

If you're looking for the best, clean, comfortable, quiet, and welcoming place to stay around the area, this is the place to go to. Nick and his father are very nice, helpful, and polite. The housekeeper comes to check on you to see if there is anything in the room you might need like clean towels, clean sheets, and the good thing about that is that she isn't in any way rude. They even have direct tv service in all the rooms. If I could give this place more stars I would. read more

I stopped here after a long drive, it was not far from the 710. The guy behind the desk was welcoming and the room was comfortable, clean, quiet and had an a/c, so awesome. I had a good rest here and woke up to the smell of fresh baked bread from the bakery next door, yummy. There is a Starbucks across the street too. After I even got to stock up on road trip supplies at the Walmart on my way back to the 710. I would definitely stay here again. Thank you sands motel! read more

I've been down in the area for work for a while. This place was the only place that didn't want to charge I've $700/week. The rooms are clean, the service is great. The beds are very comfortable, especially for a motel. The room was quiet as well, no loud noise and no drug user problems in the motel, a HUGE plus. I brought my husband with me and this was the first place to not act like they had no vacancy when they found out we are a same sex married couple. We don't get treated differently and that means a lot to us. It's close to shopping and food as well as attractions. I've dealt with Nick and he has been nothing but accommodating and kind. Definitely the best service I've received from the hospitality industry. If I ever come down to visit my brother, this is where I will stay. They do have a no visitor policy which makes it difficult when we stop by with my brother to pick something up before we enjoy our weekends, but I understand why it is in place. My stay ends soon, but I'll be back for visits and this is where I want to come. Great prices, clean rooms, great service and comfy beds. Thank you to all the staff here at the Sands! read more

I love it here. After going to a few other places in the area , this motel is now my go to spot. The price is affordable. My rooms are always clean and comfortable and quiet. I fall asleep easy here. The staff is great too. I really feel like they care about their guests here. So, if you need a place to stay the sands motel is your best bet in southgate. Really quick, this one nite I stayed and there was a power outage for street repair or something, so it was dark, but the guy behind the desk bought lights and set them up for the guests. I didn't see anyone else do this when I went for my nightly walk. It looked pretty nice when he was done. read more

I love this place and so does my husband surprisingly because he's a really picky person the energy is nice and we felt comfortable and safe here ,very clean don't forget to ask for Nick super cool and humble guy! and NO BEDBUGS!! and none of that motel Hotel old smell here!! Stayed here for a couple nights. It was pretty clean. The staff was pretty accommodating when we asked for new sheets because I drop some posole in them. They also hooked IT up with a lot of towels and the bed was really comfy. What more can you ask for? There is a lot of good places to eat and drink around. Got some bomb ass coffee from Tierra Mia not too far. Overall good experience. Would recommend if your in the area in need of a room. read more

This is probably the most cleanest, safest and Sophisticated place to stay if you're considering staying in the South Gate area ,the area might not be so good but at least Sands motels offers a peace of mind and security for its patrons ,been staying here since the fall of 2018 and I come back each and every single time. read more

Hidden gem! Found this place randomly driving by. Looked plain from the outside but free parking and Directv inside. Good WIFI connection for Netflix viewing. Manager was nice and told me they are upgrading the rooms slowly. Best part was food all nearby: 7/11 and Starbucks next door. Some good Mexican food nearby too. Great bakery next door as well. I would recommend this spot to anyone needing to getaway from a crowded living situation for a couple days or people who have friends or family visiting the South Gate area. Hard to beat the price and run by a nice family. Will definitely be coming back and recommending to others. read more

This was such a wonderful place to stay when we wanted to extend our trip in LA but not spend a lot of money. The bed was comfortable, especially the pillows! The bathroom / shower seemed recently renovated. The location was central and convenient & the U shape of the building helps you feel protected and you get to park your vehicle right outside your door. But the reason I really want to leave 5 stars is because when I contacted Sands saying I left my phone charger, Nick mailed it back to me! These days phone chargers are upwards of $30 so I was so so appreciative of that! read more
