The place has plenty of staff to help you hunt down the item you are after. As an avid movie watcher, the dvd section is particularly impressive stocking a range of titles from feature films through to tv box sets, many of the latest dvd movie releases soon find their way onto their shelves. The internet stations which are located close to the entrance, of which there are many, are always manned by a member of staff, offering help and advice for the users so there's no need for you techno-phobes out there to shy away from using the web! The fiction section is always well stocked, and if the book you want is not in stock, a speedy order service soon makes it available for a small fee. As you may or may not know, there are many other services that your local library offers, and I have to admit I only touch on a few of them, but give them a try, as especially in these hard financial times it's worth remembering most of them are free!

It's a smallish library, but there's a great selection of books, and a good study area with all the reference books to hand. The computer terminals are all internet connected, you just need to get yourself a password. You're only allowed an hour online if there's a queue (and there often is), but hey it's free! The librarians are always friendly and helpful too. The only thing that's missing is Sunday opening and a coffee shop. ;-)

Quite a large library for a small town…read more The downstairs is the actually library part (books, audiobooks etc, while upstairs is more the part for quiet study. There are about 7 tables, and each table has enough space for about 8 people to study on, so there is always space. The refernce books are also kept upstairs, along with a huge selection of telephone books! There is a seperate room in the upstairs where gallerys and exhibitions are often shown throughout out the year. They have quite a few machines which allow you to look at archived newspapers, although the staff, in my experience, appear yto be a little prejudiced in who they allow to use the machines.

There is a section with computers for those who need access to the internet, and a good selection of books, including sections for children and teenagers. There is also a good range of audio books and you can rent from a wide selection of DVDs for a small charge.The staff are uniformly helpful and friendly and books can be reserved from other local libraries for a very reasonable fee. Altogether, it is not worth buying your paperbacks when you can get them here for nothing - give it a try!

They are having a special display of one of Shakespeare's plays, one of the oldest New Testaments, even artifacts from King Nebuchadnezzar's palace. They will all be on display which will be quite amazing to see. This is a must see in Manchester! Truly amazing how it has stood the test of time.

Potter-heads would appreciate the look and feel inside the library is inspired the design for Hogwarts. I'm not sure if the Factory Records exhibit is still on display, but I'm a huge fan of Factory Records bands (ie. New Order, Joy Division, Happy Mondays etc.) and bands that came out of Manchester, the Smiths, James, Buzzcocks, The Fall to name few. It was an experience seeing original handwritten lyrics, instruments played, old punk zines, photos and badges on display.

There is a reading club for children over eight - I am looking forward to my kids wanting to join! They have all enjoyed the big read events that go on over the summer and we were really impressed with the presentation ceremony at the end of the summer, where kids that had read their quota of books recieved a certificate and medal. There are story telling sessions for younger children too. The library is well kitted out with computers, and easily identifiable sections. There are regular displays of the work of local artists upstairs, as well as good reference sections. Access to the library is good - it is within easy walking distance of short and longer term car parks and is central to the town.

It is a vast building filled to the rafters with every book on any topic you can imagine. It is the biggest library in Stockport. On the main floor you can nosey at all the books, use the internet for free (which you have to book in advance), browse the dvds and pick up information on classes and courses available in Stockport. Upstairs is the reference library which houses thousands of newspapers on film, maps, reference books, magazines and newspapers, and some wonderful historic books about Stockport. The staff are so helpful and will assist you to find any book you require. You can take out a library card and borrow up to 10 books at any time.

The staff are always courteous and helpful and nothing is too much trouble for them. The main library is large and split into sections such as media is in a seperate room just off the main area. There is plenty of choice, with new best sellers being available for one week loan, with most books being three weeks. If its a certain book you are after you can register online and order the book in for collection and also online you can renew. The staff are friendly and helpful too. It does need a little bit of tlc as the interior is a bit dated but it kinda adds to the charm of the place. Also if have time go upstairs to the art gallery asits worth a ponder too.
