A great big traditional library in the centre of town. The main room caters mostly for fiction while there are smaller specialist rooms covering local history and social sciences. The staff are always courteous and helpful and nothing is too much trouble for them. One thing to note: there's an old ghost story about one of the lifts being haunted if you believe that sort of thing. I always take the stairs, just in case! read more

This is Sheffields main library, Its entrance doesn't do it justice as the entrance hall is grand but could do with some tender loving care. The main library is large and split into sections such as media is in a seperate room just off the main area. There is plenty of choice, with new best sellers being available for one week loan, with most books being three weeks. If its a certain book you are after you can register online and order the book in for collection and also online you can renew. The staff are friendly and helpful too. It does need a little bit of tlc as the interior is a bit dated but it kinda adds to the charm of the place. Also if have time go upstairs to the art gallery asits worth a ponder too. read more

A very traditional library in the heart of the city. They have a wide variety of books, cds, dvds etc. You can order in anything that you wnat to read. The bit that i find most useful is the quick picks just as you walk in to the main room, it saves you scouring the shelves for something you want to read. The staff are very helpful and friendly. You can also renew and order books on line which is great if like me you always forget. Its open later a couple of nights during the week too. read more

SHEFFIELD CENTRAL LIBRARY is situated on Surrey Street in the heart of Sheffield City Centre, only a stone throw away from the Crucible and Lyceum Theatre. The Library is in a large white stone built Victorian building, it has a ground floor and first floor level reached by a stairway. There is no public lifts and no public toilet facilities. The building consists of; Main lending library, Public and Government Information Study, Technology and Scientific Study, Business Study. If you are interested in researching the history of Sheffield or want information on strategic matters then Sheffield Central Library is the place to visit. read more
