Unorganized & unapologetic management gave away our campsite while we were out for the day! Bathroom/shower worst I've ever experienced throughout my many years of camping...decide for yourself.

Nice campground that we discovered only because the state and Federal dunes campgrounds were full on a beautiful fall weekend. Restroom and showers are clean. The owner and staff are super nice and wanted us to let them know if there were any problems. We had a tent site that was secluded enough. We were going to try the other campgrounds our third night, but decided to extend our stay here instead.

What a nice campground. The lots are spacious. The area is so large that it spreads the campers around and it feels very quiet. There were lots of tent camps over the fourth but it stayed pretty quiet. Noise and fireworks done by 11. I really wanted to give this a higher rating but the management is not doing a great job with the property. The grounds crew are campers. They are extremely friendly and are the only ones you can find to get anything done. The owners are supposed to be in the office daily from 1-9pm. But getting a hold of them is a nightmare. Kind of like trying to make reservations. We ended up calling three times and emailing 4 times before we got a hold of someone. The wood is not well managed. Especially for a Holiday weekend. They were out of wood by Saturday morning. But the grounds crew did help us get some wood for the night. I would recommend some improvement in management, an answering service and probably some advertising for this place. They are on the high side of cost for the lots. But again it is a very laid back campground. So it was very relaxing and we really enjoyed the whole weekend. It is just minutes away from beaches, drive in movies, shopping or grocery stores. This place would be a gold mine with a few more updates and some good management.

Dirty bathrooms! Only cleaned once during a weekend.

Driving between Cleveland and Chicago, we like to make time for a stop at Indiana Dunes State Park…read more This time it was a blustery chilly day (Nov 2025), so it wasn't going to be a swimming or hiking day. But we didn't mind the $12 vehicle fee just for the view. South of the park on SR-49, you'll see a Visitors Center, and if we were staying longer, it's a nice stop for local park info, campground reservations, souvenirs, and refreshments. The drive into the state park to Porter Beach takes you through thick woods, and we saw a buck crossing the road, which was a real treat and a reminder that these parks are wild enough. At the end of SR-49, there's an ornate pavilion, and it was closed due to the upcoming holiday, even the cafe and store were closed. The restrooms outside on the boardwalk were open. And we brought our lunch in from Culver's down by I-80. There were only a couple other cars during the time we were there. We pulled up and braved the blowing sand to get a look at the thrashing waters of Lake Michigan. With gusts up to 40mph from an approaching storm, the eaves were spectacular! But it was difficult to stay upright in that wind, not to mention the light sand-blasting we were getting. And we were on the road heading for a holiday visit, so we didnt stay long, only an hour or so. It's a beautiful park, even in the winter. We want to sled down the 170ft dune-canyon known as Devil's Slide!

This…read moreis a beautifully unique park, and a must visit for anyone who loves hiking and is looking for a fun challenge. We visited for my husband's birthday, and it was a little tricky to determine which trails were located in the State Park and which trails were located in the National Park. We actually ended up paying for a National Park pass first, but then realized the trail we wanted to hike was in the State Park and so we ended up having to pay for access to that as well. It doesn't make much sense to me that there's not one main visitors center with a flat rate for both parks, but oh well. Let this be a reminder to your research if you're planning a visit soon! We hiked the Three Dune Challenge around 4 PM on a Friday, and there was no one else on the trail! We were shocked to have the whole hike to ourselves. It is indeed a challenge, but the view was well worth it. After making our way down hill and through the campsite (where they could use a bit more signage, especially since that's how they recommend exiting), we drove to the beach and enjoyed the sunset. This park is definitely worth a stop!

The walk to beach looked like you were going for a walk to the ocean! The beach itself was a pretty beach, the water was a glistening blue. We also took a ranger led hike at Pinhook bog located in the park. The only way to hike in the bog area itself, is through a ranger led hike. This was definitely a very fun and very educational hike! We learned the history (and folklore) of the bog. There were carnivorous plants there- like the pitcher plant!! This hike is definitely worth taking. Another interesting side trip, when in the area, is the 1933 Chicago Word's Fair - Century of Progress homes. They are along the lake. Just a short trip from the park proved definitely worth a visit. There are some very interesting architecture in those homes.

What makes this park different compared to the others in the East Coast is the fact it's mainly sand dunes. Some of the hiking trails were the sand dunes themselves which made for a good work out. There is also one of the lakes so it felt like I was at the beach. The only downside was it was too cold at the time to get in the water. If you visit any national parks in the east coast, make Indiana Dunes a priority.

After a few…read morehours of searching, my friend and I decided to spend 3 nights and 4 days at Lakeside Cabins Resort. The cabins have a full kitchen and the location is only 1.5 hours from my condo in Chicago. The prices were more affordable than Airbnb and Vrbo mostly due to lower cleaning fees. The grounds also have nice amenities (pool, kayak/ stand up paddle boards, volleyball, catch and release fishing, basketball, shuffleboard, firepits, etc.) We picked Cabin C62 because of its patio/deck space and lake views. The cabin is somewhat dated, but it was very clean. You do have to bring towels, linens, shampoo/conditioner/dish soap, paper products, etc. which makes for more packing/ planning but we expected this so it wasn't an issue. The sleeping lofts can be used by children or adults. I had no problem going up and down the stairs both during the day and in the evening/night. The only "problem" that we ran into was that our DVD player was not working when we tried to watch a movie the first night. We reported this to the front desk and they purchased a new DVD player and delivered it to us in a timely manner so we were satisfied. The staff was very friendly. We were able to find more than enough to do and were also able to relax. The property is very kid friendly and not loud at night or early in the morning which is exactly what we were looking for. After my rental experience, I am considering purchasing and building a new "tiny house" on the property. I've always wanted a second home, and this is a very affordable way to be able to do so nice and close to home! I plan to visit again next month with my husband for another short getaway. A+++++ experience!

Bullfrog was 45 minutes away and definitely did not disappoint. First of all, the area is gorgeous. I have never been to Willow Springs and was amazed by the landscape. Hills, woods, lakes, the Des Plaines River, huge Cook County Forest Preserve areas, with ample shopping and restaurants nearby of needed make this an ideal camping destination. The campground has a welcome station with after hours gated access. We were the only campers in the cabins and our first night there were a couple other groups using tents. It was amazing basically having this place to ourselves for about $100 a night. The cabin is accessible for those with special needs so it has a roll in shower and ADA accessible routes and features, for those seeking those amenities. It had 4 bunk beds in the main sleeping area, a separate bedroom with two beds, and the aforementioned bathroom. There is a wall unit for AC and heat in both sleeping areas so our comfort was at peak level. Those babies put out the heat and fast! This was especially great after we took an 8 mile hike which included a trip to the Little Red Schoolhouse Nature Center. The cabin and surroundings were immaculate. There are also a couple heated bath houses, dining pavilions, and docks for fishing or enjoying the beautiful views. In addition to the large cabins they also offer smaller ones without heat for warmer trips. Boat rentals are available when warmer out, as well. I saw canoes and other manual craft behind a fence by the welcome station. Inside the station they sold ice cream bars and much needed firewood bundles for $5. I would guess in the summer they offer more treats. The cabin featured a large fire pit with a swing out cooking grate, which was much appreciated. We cooked many a thing on it! A picnic table is also provided at each cabin. The staff were super friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this place for your next camping and hiking adventure. We look forward to returning this summer!
