This is the email I wrote to the resort and until this day, no responds. Unfortunately.... "Before I leave a review online I would like to let you know about our stay in your resort. Even though we loved the area and the nature, we are very disappointed with the condition of the cabin. Its very clear that nobody is doing any detail work. The cabin is surrounded with wild growing weed, while you can tell that most of the privately owned ones are having nice landscaping around. When you walk inside you are welcomed by a stained and dirty carpet. The big chair in the living area is absolutely disgusting. Just filthy. Not sure why anybody would keep a chair like this in a cabin or anywhere. It belongs in a dumpster. At least half of the window blinds dont have a handle to open or close them. The switch of the fan in the bathroom is broken and two light bulbs above the mirror are out. All things which should be fixed before guests show up. The patio in the bag is beautiful, but wasn't cleaned or "un-spidered" in weeks. We understand, its nature, and there will be some spiderwebs, but there were multiple spider nests on the ceiling. The little private deck at the water is so pretty and peaceful, but looking around, you see plastic bottles and other garbage people left behind. This should also be checked and cleaned before new guests arrive. I read reviews on Yelp before I booked your cabin and there were reviews already mentioning that the cabins are not in great conditions, but since the reviews were a few years old I was sure the problems were solved by you in the meantime. Unfortunately I was wrong. I attached a few pictures to this email, even though I'm sure you are aware of all these issues. The amount charged per night is way to high for what you get. This was a birthday getaway for my husband as a present and I was hoping it'll be beautiful. As much as we loved the nature at your resort, we most likely wont come back."

If you can, ask for cabin C26. It was super clean and comfy. Its near the pool and had plenty of room for my family. Love this resort!

Harbor Country Cabins are for those who want to camp, but don't want to do any of the work or sleep in a tent. There are all the perks of camping: serene wooded setting, grills and patio with furniture to dine al fresco, and a bonfire pit (we didn't even have to build the fire.) Then there were added bonuses: screened in porch complete with mason jar lighting and fan, koi pond with lily pads and bull frogs to ease you into sleep, your own clean modern bathroom with plush towels and nice showers, a kitchen with any utensils you may need. This place is seriously unreal with quaint, calm vibes. I left feeling incredibly refreshed, and immediately wanting to book another stay. Dogs are welcome here, and mine seemed right at home. She quickly figured out how to let herself out of the screened porch, and was happy to explore the cabin. Also it's within a 15 minute drive from the Grand Mere State Park with a dog friendly beach. This place is excellent for groups, since the price is very reasonable if you have 4-6 people stay in a cabin. I recommend Harbor Country Cabins to anyone looking for a short summer respite.

I highly recommend this place for those thinking about a family reunion, bachelor party get away, or any other big gathering of approximately 30 people. my wife recently got married. before the wedding ceremony we decided to bring both our large families together for 2 night 3 days at HCC. We worried about a number of things, but it turned out to be a fantastic family gathering. It easily accommodated about 30 of us. My parents brought there fifth wheel, and parked in the drive way. there was plenty of parking. For fun we cooked together (there is a grill, microwave) talked around the fire and we went across the street to the park and played a bunch of games. HCC has a lot of games available for guest already there. the beds were great. it's my kind of glamping - Glamorous camping. my wife and i were worried about the street and traffic noise and danger, but it didn't prove to be a problem. and lastly, Nicollete who runs the HCC, is ridiculously helpful and kind.

Driving between Cleveland and Chicago, we like to make time for a stop at Indiana Dunes State Park…read more This time it was a blustery chilly day (Nov 2025), so it wasn't going to be a swimming or hiking day. But we didn't mind the $12 vehicle fee just for the view. South of the park on SR-49, you'll see a Visitors Center, and if we were staying longer, it's a nice stop for local park info, campground reservations, souvenirs, and refreshments. The drive into the state park to Porter Beach takes you through thick woods, and we saw a buck crossing the road, which was a real treat and a reminder that these parks are wild enough. At the end of SR-49, there's an ornate pavilion, and it was closed due to the upcoming holiday, even the cafe and store were closed. The restrooms outside on the boardwalk were open. And we brought our lunch in from Culver's down by I-80. There were only a couple other cars during the time we were there. We pulled up and braved the blowing sand to get a look at the thrashing waters of Lake Michigan. With gusts up to 40mph from an approaching storm, the eaves were spectacular! But it was difficult to stay upright in that wind, not to mention the light sand-blasting we were getting. And we were on the road heading for a holiday visit, so we didnt stay long, only an hour or so. It's a beautiful park, even in the winter. We want to sled down the 170ft dune-canyon known as Devil's Slide!

We visited for my husband's birthday, and it was a little tricky to determine which trails were located in the State Park and which trails were located in the National Park. We actually ended up paying for a National Park pass first, but then realized the trail we wanted to hike was in the State Park and so we ended up having to pay for access to that as well. It doesn't make much sense to me that there's not one main visitors center with a flat rate for both parks, but oh well. Let this be a reminder to your research if you're planning a visit soon! We hiked the Three Dune Challenge around 4 PM on a Friday, and there was no one else on the trail! We were shocked to have the whole hike to ourselves. It is indeed a challenge, but the view was well worth it. After making our way down hill and through the campsite (where they could use a bit more signage, especially since that's how they recommend exiting), we drove to the beach and enjoyed the sunset. This park is definitely worth a stop!
