The pizza used to be awesome now it's like frozen pizza out of a box. Don't know why they changed the pizza but it's HORRIBLE now!

Golf at Thunderbird, Pizza at Sandbar. This is what a local establishment should be -- not some dreadful chain place in a mini-mall off the main highway, but off the little roads, back by the water. It's pizza was the inspiration for the way I cut my peppers and onions, diced, and almost integrated into the pie. Wasn't it called "Duke LeGrande's" at some point? read more

We drove considerably far out of our way to try this well-rated joint. Unfortunately the kitchen closes at what sounds like a strange time to me --- 9pm on a very busy Sunday --- so we couldn't even sample so much as an appetizer. I'm less worried about all the money they're losing because of this, but somewhat empathetic to the room full of people drinking, socializing, and watching Sunday NASCAR on an empty stomach. We went to the 24-hour restaurant Blue Sky in Amherst and traded our money for a satisfying meal there instead. Caveat emptor with regard to Yelp's hours. read more

When there for lunch service was great at first then it just went down hill pizza took an hour to get had to keep asking for refills.

The sand bar is one of those places you go with family or friends on a night when you aren't in a rush for anything and especially living on the beach and taking a family walk down the beach to the sandbar is a great night plan for the family. It's a bit small for a restaurant but it holds it own with yummy food and a nice staff that are locals to the area of Huron. I enjoy going out with friends to grab a beer and a pizza to eat and hang out. Their food options are great with local seafood and perch and sandwich options for everyone to enjoy. The beer is good and the prices are reasonable for a party of 5 on an evening. The place does get pretty packed so be prepared to wait a bit if you come on a busy night. And the walk back home after a fun evening at the sand bar is also a fun time. Catching the sunset and feeling the sand between your toes is fun with family. Parking is limited so the locals enjoy walking to the sand bar for better ease of getting into the sand bar. Keep that in mind when you want to go. read more

FRAUD ALERT - I was visiting the area and stopped in here last week and got a couple fish sandwiches to go. Since it was a take-out order, I did not leave a tip. A couple days later my credit card company contacted me to verify a $7.00 tip I supposedly left on a check that was only $16.50. They thought it was unusually high. I am so glad they caught this and refunded me the $7.00 and charged it back to Sand Bar. A waitress at this establishment took it upon herself to forge a nice big tip. If you're gonna cheat people, at least make it a believable amount. Shame on you....you should be fired. The sandwich was pretty good but this thievery will keep me from returning. read more

For years my family and I would pass by the Sand Bar on our way to Nickel Plate Beach. I never gave it a second thought. Nor would I ever know that in the future I would be working there. I am amazed at the atmosphere and the great feeling you get when you sit down to enjoy the food. The owners and managment are the best that I have ever had the chance to work for. If you want to skip back in time and head to the beach for some fun in the sun and then quench your hunger or thirst then it is just a walk off the beach. I tell people where I work with pride and honor. I will never be ashamed to say that I am a Sand Bar employee. I want my family, friends and newbies to know that this is thee place to be all year round. We have great food, beers, wines, your mix of special drinks and the best band you can ask for "The Stoolz". So get over to the Sand Bar and enjoy a relaxing great time... read more

Okay, I'm not a bar-goer. I understand the type of food that resides there and that's mainly the reason I'm not interested, so just know that that's where I'm coming from. However, for some reason, my parents like this place and I accompanied family last night for a visit. It was unfortunate. Everything on the menu had to have over 1000 calories, so to err on the side of caution, I ordered salad and a panini. The salad was a salad (nothing to write home about), but the food that came was not what I have established in my mind to be a panini. Their "panini bread" was actually just regular white bread that looked like it had been soaking in butter and oil for three days. It was so heavy and greasy I couldn't even eat it. Do they seriously think this was a panini? It didn't seem incredibly clean either, the front door was absolutely glossed in greasy hand and fingerprints, and the waitress left something to be desired. But hey, if you like slightly brash service and food that is either fried, battered, or cooked in whale blubber, be my guest! read more

Don't pass this one up. I have been going here for many years and have had great a experience every time. Excellent food, attentive service and great selection of beers, wines, etc. The Panini is particularly good. It does get crowded in the summer time, so plan to go early. read more

Excellent food and the girls work their butts off; they really need another helper for the business they turn. I have yet to have a bad meal there in the last +25 years. The Perch are excellent but pricey, $17, but after having rubbish tonight over at The Brass Pelican across the river which was so bad we threw it away, I guess $17 isn't too pricey after all for a good product that's cooked correctly. Parking sucks but food is great, specials are good portions. Soups are very good, I can't speak for the mixed drinks since I don't drink. read more
