I was about to head on a multiple day ski trip. My current gear was lacking, and chilly memories of last season were haunting me, so the stars were aligned for me to complete my snowboarding equipment stash. When I asked the crew where to go, they sent me straight to Sanction. Sanction Skate and Snow is a Toronto snowboarding and skateboarding shop. They've been around since 2008, and are one of the few snowboarding stores that I'm aware of in the area. Do not make the logical mistake of thinking that they've got you covered for your skiing needs. Skiing is taboo at this shop. I walked into the shop one evening looking for a helmet, a stomp pad, and a good pair of snow pants. I was surprised to find out how much selection they have of all things snowboarding, especially when I noticed the 2nd floor of the store in the basement. They've essentially got all of your basic needs covered, so the only debate you'll be having is whether you want to pay their regular retail price, or bargain shop elsewhere. I came away with all three of my items, the most notable of which is a pair of Volcom Gore-Tex snow pants. You'll have to shell out a little more for that Gore-Tex water proof coating, but I certainly valued being bone dry during the entirety of my trip. The staff are a bunch of cool, helpful guys. They obviously snowboard and/or skate, so they know what they're talking about. As every winter season approaches I'm always scrambling to find a few missing pieces of my snowboarding gear and my general trend is to hit up the following shops: 1) Board Sports - to see this years selection but know that I'm not buying anything from them since it's so expensive 2) Sign of the Skiier - to see how their prices compare for the pieces I'm looking for but their boarding equipment is always a bit limited compared to other places 3) Skiis and Bikes - At times they have good deals but selection is limited and then the holy grail 4) Sanction Skate & Snow These guys have it all. A huge space for a board shop with everything you could want in a board shop (boards, binding, boots, helmets, ass pads, outerwear, googles, etc, etc). Their prices and range of equipment is by far the best I've seen and they carry limited edition equipment as well if you're looking for that one piece that'll make everyone stare on the hill. The staff is awesome and willing to go through everything you need and give you the best deals (it's the first time anywhere I've been where the staff take you straight to previous years models instead of trying to upsell you on the new models!). Need snowboard stuff ASAP. like.... RIGHT NOW We have been shopping for ski/snowboard clothing and gear in the last two weeks. We ended up here just this past Saturday and we were surprise to see it's quite a big shop! Unlike many local small snowboard shops, this one is spacious. Boots section (downstairs) has a very comfortable seating and space to try them on, the boards are not cluttered together (you won't have to lift the front board to see the 5 other boards behind it), and the selection they have is decent! It LOOKS like they're geared towards freestyle/park snowboarders (do correct me if I'm wrong) and their jackets are very stylish indeed! I found their men's stuff to be extremely impressive (but they have only a few racks for women's clothing). The boots are new models and awesome (not sh*t from years ago!) The 5 stars rating is definitely because of their staff! Chill, funny, knowledgeable, and they're just plain perfect for a store like this. They won't bother you but they're there if you need. On the Saturday, there were 4 people working there at the empty store! Wouldn't you have expected less people during the slow season? NOPE, their manager decided to put 4 people on shift! My boyfriend is very awkward when shopping for things he needs. By awkward I mean he is an independent shopper -so when he NEEDS something, he'd still be independent. I, on the other hand, will share my whole life story with the staff so they can literally tell me what I need. One of the staff (who greeted us) actually followed us downstairs. He's a quiet young man and I thought my boyfriend would just shun him away, as he does usually lol. To be honest, I thought the staff was just as awkward because he's so quiet and stood so close to us (but in a friendly way). He forced himself to start the convo, "What are you looking for?" My boyfriend replied with some awful, vague answer (I swear if he reads this review he's going to kill me) The guy continued this dead-end convo with, "Have you tried the Vans Cirro?" And so, the convo continued and a customer is helped! See, if I were the staff, I'd roll my eyes thinking, "Arg this customer just wants to be alone. Charles was very helpful. We had a great conversation about places to ride and he spent a lot of time fitting my gear. I've only been here once before when I first started riding. I went to another snowboard shop first and they actually recommended I come here instead and I'm glad they did. There's not a lot of snowboard shops around anymore. I used to buy my gear at the snowboard/ski show but find the help and service lacking and rushed. Feels nice to have someone actually listen to what I'm looking for and provide their honest opinion and not just trying to up sell me certain brands. I'll be back! read more

Customer service, professionalism, expertise, inventory!!!! I cannot say enough about the customer experience at Sanction. I am a mother of two teenagers who needed all new snowboard equipment for the upcoming season, but I was a little nervous by the idea that if I was buying all this new equipment, I wanted it to be the right fit for them to last a number of seasons, and I am just not up to date an all the options out there. When I first entered the store I couldn't believe the selection and inventory, absolutely massive, but before I could get overwhelmed by all the options, I realized that incredible expertise and customer service means that you don't have to worry at all, because the amazing staff are there to help you, so I left knowing that my kids got exactly what they needed and will feel great about having for years to come. I went to the store during their Midnight Madness sale on Black Friday. There was a lineup before the doors opened and they were kind enough to place a heater outside along with timbits and hot chocolate! I prepaid for a Capita "Birds of a Feather" women's snowboard which was sold out at the Dundas st. location. While in store an employee called the distributor and ensured me that my board would arrive in 1-2 weeks. I followed up for the SECOND time 3 weeks later and I was told that the snowboard which had allegedly been reserved for me was no longer available. Extremely disappointed that I must now go out of my way to return to the store for a refund. I will not return to Sanction in the future. read more

Best place around for anything snow board related!!!

Ask anyone that's been here before and they will tell you the best thing about Sanction is he service. The staff here is always super friendly, chill and knowledgable they can converse casually while dropping great little details and info on gear throughout the shop. I've been through a few times to see what gear they had in but didn't make any major purchases until last weekend. I decided to do a full upgrade of all my snowboarding gear and grab a board, boots and bindings. I had done research and had a set up in mind but my man Malcolm helped educate me and hook me up with a much better set up from last years models that were upgrades from my original choices but for a much better price. He also gave me an additional discount for buying a full rig and threw in a stomp pad of my choice. A really great place to gear up for snow or skate. Talk to the staff and they will guide you and help you out to find what's best for your level and wants. They also fully installed everything, fit my bindings for me and gave me some good advice about waxing and maintenance for the board. Overall a great experience and they definitely have my loyalty as a customer. read more

I somehow didn't find out about this snowboard shop until very recently even though it's been around for quite a long time. I was really missing out! I needed a last-minute part for my broken boots right before leaving on a snowboard trip and Charles went out of his way to help me coordinate getting this part just in time. What amazing service! Amazing the best snowboard shop i have ever been too. The staff is actually really nice. i had a horrible time with meltdown snowboard shop.(the store i bought the bindings from) meltdown would not replace my bindings and gave me headaches trying to get my bindings fixed. .... i walked into sanction and within 20min i was leaving with my bindings fixed. the staff actually knows what they are talking about. the store has great prices also.
