Hark! I have returned from my hiatus/ sabbatical?
And now for a well earned review...
At first beginnings, of dining service, things are slow. Mind you it's a busy
Wednesday night and my table is half full of further expected companions.
Nevertheless, it's time for my first and second drinks, and I'm a bit twitchy
waiting for others. The first drink is an amaro (stuff is great!) but has way way
way too much soda, and hence far over-diluted! I wanted a dash of soda, and ice. The second is very slow on the uptake, at least to get noticed.
The second drink however, is sublime; a Montenegro sour! Kinda big fan of
the amaro at the moment, after going to bar Americano! This was worth the agonising wait of around 20 minutes it took to get noticed a had an empty drink.
After this point though, things get better, I'm removed from further waits and
also drinking.
As soon as the first few dishes arrive; things get going some flat breads,
chorizo, grilled provolone, broccoli, sweet potato salad, tuna cehivce, etc.
These are great little bites and take the edge of things. Once food has arrived,
it is much more settled. Everything runs at a much calmer pace. Service is
attentive, but on the whole, there's minimal disruption and interaction with
the table. (curtailed interference). It's polite and friendly where it needs to
be, short and sweet in riposte, but achieves the desired result.
Beif DE chorizo is a stand out as a main dish; the beef is superbly cooked,
and there's little wonder it's a signature dish so to speak. Tender, soft,
flavoursome beef with char crispiness, unadorned with extra or additional
flavours. Creme de leche is alright, the salted peanut caramel, fantastic, but
it lacks some pizazz.
Empanada's- I ordered both. While the excel, the provolone option takes the
cake by miles, wonderfully tasty with ooozy cheese. As the meal draws to
a close and all is done, San Telmo have done well for the evening. Maybe
this is due to my inebriated agreeable state, but it's 10pm, and they have
just done a respectable trade for a Wednesday night.
The 2007 Malbec, (James bond vintage) leaves me with a good experience
in terms of wine, and the evening itself. The interior is a place I have to explore further, perhaps drinks at the bar would be excellent next time. The space
ship esque push button toilets are a little odd, and perhaps not a good idea
to interact with if one is very drunk. Not that I was, but I have the foresight to
envisage such a scenario. Over all good design and execution, just maybe
a little more love upon first arrival... read more
