This cozy inn is located next to a very busy road. It ends up being quite loud at night but the air conditioning is loud enough to muffle the sounds when running throughout the night. Parking initially was also a challenge. It quite limited in the front and if guests do not follow protocol and moved their vehicles once checked in, it does make it a bit of an awkward check in. The cheerful gentleman at the counter completely changes the way you feel when you enter the building though. Friendly and inviting he greeted us like he had been anticipating us with excitement. He acknowledged every little silly thing our toddler mumbled and made sure that we weren't thirsty or in need of anything before passing over the keys to the room. He was wonderful just as his fun chalk art is. Entering our room we were pleasantly surprised to see a card and chocolates on the bed for us. It's definitely a dying tradition to do so and it felt refreshing as well as a considerate touch. We stayed in Room 103 10/19/2023 - 10/20/2023; $86.15 per night. The room had coffee, fridge and a microwave. The bed was very comfortable! The shower was hot with good pressure, and the tub drained well. We loved the dark wood of the dresser and headboards. The room had a full-size dressing mirror and tons of lights. We decided to downgrade from an A to a B because of the laundry - the washer closest to the door didn't spin so our clothes overnighted a sopping mess. We threw a dart and ran them through the washer on the wall, which did spin. When we checked out, my mom requested a refund for both loads - $1.50 for the unspun load's inconvenience, and $1.50 for having to run it a second time. The front desk offered $1.50. That extra $1.50 would have bought a lot of goodwill. Grade B. read more

Cute motel style Inn. They were friendly upon check in. The room is decorated so nicely in a modern rustic feel with chili peppers and faux plants to liven it up. They even had a real area rug in front of the sink which I've never seen before at a hotel. The bathroom (toilet and shower area) could have used some updates. The sink area was nice and spacious. The king bed was wonderfully comfortable. They had a cute red retro mini fridge and a regular small microwave. The tv was small but worked fine. Could have used another chair in the room so my partner and I could eat our takeout together but that's often how many hotels are- only one chair for some reason. The place was clean which was the most important part. It wasn't in an area that seemed to be walking distance to much. We were only there for about 14 hours so not really sure of the area. It was cold so no pool time. The outside isn't much to look at. They offer dog waste bags but not much space for your dog to go to the bathroom. Overall this was a good stay and I'd consider it again if I'm ever in Albuquerque. read more

This hotel is exactly what we are looking for. Very close to interstate 40, a few restaurants around, fairly quiet, very reasonable price, and recently remodeled rooms. The stucco work and the paint is very nicely done, the new furniture does reflect in Albuquerque theme, which we found most pleasant. Overall, if you can ignore the older style of the building being an exterior hallway with window mount air-conditioning units underneath the windows on the front wall of each room, I think you'd find your room to be far more than satisfactory. Most important to us is a comfortable bed... And the bed here was just perfect for us. Highly recommend! read more

I recently stayed here for an 11-night stay, and "no-frills" takes on a whole new meaning now. Before I start, the front desk staff was wonderful! They were friendly, helpful, and always provided what was asked. This is why I'm giving 2 stars vs. 1. Let's start with parking: Not bad, plenty of room, but understand, there is a significant homeless population in this area. You are also next to a busy street. Make sure things are locked/secured/hidden, and I would recommend parking away from the street. 2. The room: They have merely been redecorated, not remodeled. The walls were scuffed and discolored. Bedding had cigarette burns, which they conveniently flipped over the bedding as to hide this. You may or may not have a fridge and/or microwave, and you must request an ironing board and iron. The carpet is so dirty, that your bare feet will be brown within a few minutes after taking a shower. We also found a roach on the ceiling near the closet. We had no issues with the AC, so that was a plus. The water has to run for at least 3-5 mins before getting warm. It may get warm, but rarely hot. There is an actual note telling you it may take this long to get hot water. 3. There is coffee available in the front, but that is it. There is a Denny's close by that offers a 10% discount for those staying in the motel. I was truly fearful and uncomfortable in this motel while staying alone. My husband made the 12 hour drive to be with me, which made it much better. I would certainly try to find a different place to stay if ever in the area again. The money is spent and done, but hopefully this helps others not make the same mistake as I did. read more

So it's not the fanciest place that I've ever stayed at but it is clean. When I walked in I could smell something funky but it turns out that it was really just the cleaning stuff that they use that I smelled. I really never mind the smell of cleaning. There's no mold or mildew evidence or smell. I don't know if they have that in New Mexico anyway. I didn't need to use the heat or the air conditioning. There is a hole in the rug which is pretty obvious when you walk in but the price was right. The gentleman at the front desk was very kind and helpful. If you are handicapped in anyway then you will want to make a reservation in advance or at least before the same night which is what I did. There are only stairs to get up the second floor. No elevator and the stairs are pretty steep. So you want to get a first floor room. Definitely a good place to stay for the night as I am, just traveling through. 3.5 stars. Stayed one night. The ladies at the check in desk are very very sweet and very helpful with questions. The Inn looks like any other inn from the outside. There is parking on the inside. However, the road in is a little narrow and twice I encountered a truck with an RV blocking the road to enter and leave the parking lot behind the Denny's you see from the road. The room itself had interesting touches of fun frames, had a fridge but no microwave and a gigantic bathroom. The bed itself was comfy enough. There was this damp smell I could not get over (not enough to bother my friend I guess). Couldn't really figure out how to get to the cable channels and the wifi was weak in general as Netflix didn't work. But, decent place to crash for the night at a good price. read more

So there are a few things I'd like to mention with this review. To begin, some of these reviews are correct, the surrounding area can be a bit iffy, and if you are not used to urban settings, I could see where some would worry. HOWEVER, the measures management are taking honestly kept us secure and we had no issues. I really did feel safe. The room was affordable and very clean. This was such a comfortable stay. The beds were very inviting and we all got a good night of sleep. The water pressure was wonderful! I really liked the thoughtful south west decor and we appreciated the little touches, like the complimentary chocolates and bottled water. As someone who just needed some where to rest their head, it was a great stay! The front desk ladies who helped me check in were kind & prompt, same with the gentleman who helped me check out @ 530AM. The room was really nice, after reading reviews I was a little nervous. But honestly? You'd really only be bothered if you're picky or particular! There are definitely parts of the renovation that were not done perfectly, but for the price I really can't complain. Beds were super comfy! I recommend booking directly through their website, I got the best price there! Also there is a bit of an issue with Homeless in the area, but they were pretty harmless. This place is okay for a one-night stay with nice modern furniture and comfortable beds inside the rooms. Nice flatscreen tvs, microwave and frig, plenty of free parking. There is a Denny's next door and a Starbucks across the street. Dog friendly rooms with a pet relief station outside. I can tell the owners are trying with this place, but there is still some work that needs to be done before I can give them a better rating. I wouldn't say it's the safest place to stay.... so be cautious outside and about. Some guests who stay here are indeed questionable, and it appears the front desk is not monitoring the motel all night or the parking lot. Also, we noticed some shady looking people hanging out in the parking lot earlier this morning. The room itself smelled like smoke, our sheets had cigarette burns in them, and we were kept up all night by the guest upstairs pacing in his room all night. Probably on a meth binge... And I mean ALL NIGHT! In fact at 8 am the next morning the guy above us was still pacing in the upstairs room! I went and reported everything to the front desk attendant, and she apologised and said we could have late check out today. However, at 10:40 a.m. the housekeeper knocked on my door to ask me if I was staying or leaving. I stepped outside of my room to speak with her briefly and informed her that I had a late check out, but she did not believe me. I closed my door when I stepped outside to speak with her and at that time my room key stopped working! I asked her if she could let me back inside the room and she said I had to visit the front desk to be allowed back in. Unbelievable, I told the housekeeper the only reason why I stepped outside was to speak with her and my mask was still in my room, so I can't visit the front desk without my mask. It wasn't even 11 AM yet, the regular check out time, and I was purposely getting locked out of my room early! The housekeeper continued to be snotty with me, but then she eventually let me back in. The pool is open during Covid by reservations only. We wanted to reserve the pool for the next morning. The male front desk attendant said it was all booked until 11 am, which was not true. In fact I questioned him on it and told him I thought it was strange that a pool would be booked up on a Monday morning, so early. He said he would get back to me with an answer and never did. The following morning I found out from the female front desk attendant that the pool was available at 10 am. The male front desk attendant the previous night made up his own answers without actually checking the pool availability in the reservation book. The pool area is nice enough... I like the added Cabana. The laundry room has an ice machine in the office has snack and drink machines in the lobby. Overall my experience wasn't good at all. The staff, with exception to the female front office attendant, don't know how to treat visitors with respect. It would have been a lot better if it wasn't for the tweaker in the room upstairs, the unfriendly maid, the lazy front desk guy. and the lack of friendly service overall. The biggest complaint we have is that it was very hot and we wanted to enjoy the pool at night after we got back from checking out the city. Peeling of the carpet tiles and walls 8. Black cables in the back of the door hanging out of the wall. 9. I had to lug the iron and board to the room from the front desk. Pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this place! The bed was comfortable and bug free, and the rooms were really clean. Looks like they recently updated the rooms with parquet and modern amenities. The pet relief area is small but cute and gets the job done. I'm giving this place 4.5. The Inn is an old Motor Lodge/Motel that they have painstakingly renovated and the rooms are lovely. I was concerned when I first pulled in, but I was only staying one night. I had a room in the back, away from the street noise and my room was immaculately clean. DID I SAY IMMACULATELY CLEAN? It was incredible. Bravo to housekeeping. The ladies at the front desk were lovely. The room was terrific. No carpeting, thank God, and a lovely wood laminate floor. The bed was extremely comfortable and the size of the room was large. Plenty of hot water. You can tell they are really trying to meet their clients needs. There was a welcome note and chocolates on the bed when I arrived. Plenty of clean fluffy towels with soaps and shampoo, My only criticism is only 2 out of the 5 lamps in the room worked and the dead bolt on the door was broken. Fresh Kurig coffee in the lobby, No breakfasts, but there is a Denny's across the street. I'm a big guy that can take care of myself. I would definitely stay here again for a single nights stay, not long term. And, I don't think I could recommend this place to women traveling by themselves. The pictures are accurate. Well believe it or not, I decided to give them a five star review in order to counteract the debut review. Yes, the neighborhood seems a little sketchy but I didn't really care about that since we are inside our room. And how much control do the front desk personnel really have over who hangs out in front of the hotel. That can't be monitored constantly. And I find that is out of the owners' control. We checked in last night after booking our reservation on Booking.com. We were initially given the key to room 210, but the desk clerk came out as we were unloading the car and gave us the key to 110, so that we wouldn't have to negotiate the stairs to get to the second floor. The two queen size beds were firm and very comfortable! It was a treat to find two simple little Dove candies on the bed. This cost very little to do but adds a nice touch. This tells me the owners are doing their best to make their guests feel comfortable. The water pressure is one of the things I always look for and this one had good water pressure although I seem to always have to clean the showerheads from the mineral deposits that clog the showerhead. Albuquerque is in a desert, and desert water typically has a lot of mineral deposits and the bathroom sink has a slow drain. I would suggest the owners get a Costco membership and replace the towels. These Walmart towels get scratchy after just a few washings and with a Costco membership the towels are very reasonable in price and are luxurious! And besides a Costco membership allows you money back at the end of the year. No, I do not work for Costco but I'm a firm Costco-ite! Another thing I look for our clean floors, and this carpeting appeared to be clean. We've been in hotels were before we get in the shower we discover that our feet are filthy dirty from the flooring. But we did not have that issue here. Regarding the housekeeping department, I would suggest that they pull hair off of towels before they fold them up and put them in the rooms. Although the towels were clean, I found long black hairs on the towels. Housekeeping also needs to wipe down the walls in the bathroom periodically. Overall, this was excellent value for the money as we paid a little under $60 for one night through booking.com. read more

I've stayed here a few times - price is fine, immediate neighborhood very sketchy. This last visit (February 2024) was the worst. Violent altercation outside my room, possible racist encounter in lobby, and on top of that the hot water took 10 minutes to heat. Overall a decent place to stay. Better than other similarly priced motel style accommodations in town. Pros: updated rooms, doesn't smell smoky, doesn't feel like a shady breaking bad type motel, only one point of entry and exit to the property. The manager Romita was very helpful. Safety hazard: bathroom floors are super slippery and they have no rugs. There were also nails sticking up in the doorway from the bedroom to the bathroom. I slipped on the tile and busted my knee pretty bad, despite the fact I had dry feet and I'm an able bodied individual who isn't clumsy. You have to hold on to the doorframe so as not to slip while walking in the bathroom. More cons: WiFi broke down at least once a day when I was there and it took 15+ mins for it to be fixed every time, interrupting my work. There is no maid service, you have to go to the front desk to get more toilet paper. You have to ask for ice at the front desk there's no ice machine. There is not enough outlets in the room. There were only two free outlets in the corner of the room next to the AC, which is very far from the desk or the bed making it impossible to charge my tech while in use. Is there any way to give less than 1 star? I read the previous comments and I should have listened. Since it said it was remodeled and under new management I decided to try it. My mistake. It was never cleaned from the prior guests and there was a used syringe in the room. They refused to give me a refund and instead told me I could talk to a manager the next day. The only employee they had on was at the front desk with her kids. The local authorities really need to investigate the drug use in the hotel rooms and it should be closed for safety concerns. read more

I came over from the state next door ,this is not my first or last time but I was pleasantly surprised. ( this is my first time staying here) You can feel the pride and see the efforts by the quality that put into running this business . Uncomfortable bed and pillows, poor sound reduction - could hear everything from upstairs guests. Very bad communication at front desk; I added an extra day and was assured this was handled. Next morning, cleaning staff woke me up trying to enter my room! No one made a note, processed payment or communicated that I had added an extra day! After bringing this to manager's attention, she still failed to tell the front desk person who made the error as I spoke with them later. One wall of electric was out - phone, outlet, lamps and no one tried to fix this while I stayed or offered me another room. Not a good stay and barely slept. Do not recommend. read more

We met our friends from Florida for the balloon fiesta and we all stayed at this charming place. Its being renovated so there is room to grow and for some improvements, but our room was clean and roomy, staff were very friendly and helpful, and although some reviews mention a homeless issue in the area, we didn't see any issues. There is a fence around the property and it felt safe. We were gone most of the days into the evenings but all of us got take out from a local restaurant and ate by the pool outside without any problems. Our only complaints are the beds need updating, and our room lacked USB ports that worked; however, our friends had many USBs. We would definitely stay here again. It is a bit noisy at times due to traffic but nothing that kept us awake. For the price, the San Mateo Inn was perfect for what we needed. read more

How in the world does this place have 3.5 stars??? My family of 4 got into town last night around 1:30am. We were exhausted and looking forward to some rest before we started driving on our long journey again the next day. Upon arrival, we realized Yelp may have let us down BIG TIME. There were drugged out people doing the zombie walk around the outside of the property, and we did not feel safe at all. Nor did we feel like our vehicle would be safe parked outside behind the flimsy, bent chainlink fence that surrounds the motel. We got to our room, after passing several plaques that said NO SMOKING - $150 FEE. Our room smelled like an ashtray. I have asthma and severe allergies to smoke, and immediately began having breathing difficulties. My husband and kids, who luckily do not share my condition were also finding it hard to breathe....which only speaks to how bad the smell was. I took a quick look around the room and started searching for another place to stay. Little chocolates on the bed, and a friendly host do not make up for fearing your family might have a fentinyl overdose from touching surfaces within a room. I could tell they tried to clean. They seem to care somewhat about the property here, but unless you have zero standards for true cleanliness and safety for your own wellbeing and that of your family, find another place to sleep. read more

This place is running a SCAM. Avoid booking at all costs and save your money!! Also protect your personal information because who knows what they will do with it. It's been over a month with no refund in sight for our canceled booking. We booked and paid for an 8-night stay last month. Upon arrival, the staff being were rude to the customer in front of us (should have been a sign). We get the room keys and immediately it is clear that the pictures are from another decade. The room is poorly lit and dingy, had stained bed sheets, the door to the outside is flimsy and barely locks. After looking around, we decide to cancel immediately after checking in. We go down to the front desk where management tells us we will have to pay for one night anyway. Okay. Fine. We agree, check out, leave and find a much better hotel. It's now been a MONTH and there has still been no refund. Called several times, front desk staff was rude AGAIN, told me the manager would call me back. No call back after several days. Then I get a refund on my statement for one night's stay. Where is my refund for the other 7 nights we paid for???? I wish them luck sorting that with the fraud investigators at my bank as I have escalated this fraudulent transaction appropriately. Save your money and go literally anywhere else to avoid getting scammed. read more

I checked in the morning I left and they had it all set up for later checkout. The person who helped me in the morning was also very nice (even at 6am)! The room was cute. We stayed for two nights at this recently renovated hotel and it definitely did not feel recently renovated. Firstly the staff was absolutely wonderful, any interaction I had with them was pleasant and positive. The location was good, close to several stores and chain restaurants we could easily get a quick bite to eat, and being located next to the interstate made it easier to get around town. The quality of the room was at the same as a motel six with double the price though. We noticed holes in the wall and uneven paint jobs as soon as we walked in. The small upholstery chair was stained and about to fall apart. The carpet had burn patterns I am guessing from a hot plate. The door to the bathroom was broken and the shower head was not installed correctly and was shooting water out of the sides. I've slept on futons that were more comfortable than that bed. The pool was also always closed regardless of what hour it was. I will be looking for other hotel options next time I am in town. read more
