Paul Colin Bell, the Brit chef par excellence who purchased a former chocolate shop only to turn it into a bona fide retro American diner several months thereafter truly has outdone himself in the quality and tastefulness of food, as well as the nostalgic charm of its decor! After eating the same types of food day after day, one often hankers for something different ... something unique ... something that tastes delicious and looks good, too, reminding you of what's behind and at "home." American FlipOuts Diner delivers on all accounts! We began with a basket of deep fried onion rings as an entrada to share. I then enjoyed a very tasty order of nachos with cheese and "spicy" sauce -- rather like a Marinara sauce with a bit of a bite -- while my partner immersed himself in a "bocadillo" (sandwich) featuring salmon fish with onions, tomatoes, and pickled cucumbers. Both plates came with sides of salads tastefully mixed with lettuce, carrots, beets, tomatoes, lemon, and more pickled cucumbers. We also shared a good-sized dish of papas fritas between us. The hamburgers here are the real thing--about a half pound of beef, not pork! All told -- including 4 Cruzcampos between us -- the bill came to about 18.5 Euros ... which, all things considered, is rather reasonable for Ronda. Aftewards, when visiting the "servicio" to dispose of the beers we had rented, we got a good look at the inside decor: muy "retro" diner style, with red and white vinyl booths and tables throughout and lots of "cool" signage. We personally believe it merits a visit ... and worth your patronage.

And the server spoke great English. When we first sat down, I ordered a beer. To compliment the experience, you'd think that they would have some American beer available. Nope...not a single one. Not a big deal I guess. They had a limited selection of other beers. We ordered tacos and chicken fingers. They were both pretty good. If we were hungry, we could totally come in here to do a tapas experience out of all the finger foods. One weird thing, though. The honey mustard was actually just yellow mustard.

Now the following criticisms are made because I am an American and a diner enthusiast. Please don't take my criticism as a reason not to try this place out. I'm Very picky with my diners. We ordered a few nibles: nachos & onion rings. The portions were large. The nachos were made from the cheese whiz type of cheese which I wasn't a fan of. My boyfriend suffered heartburn for a few hours after. he he. The onion rings were under cooked. This is typical for Spain. They deep fry onion rings and french fries for 3 seconds and serve it greasy and soggy. I was hoping since it was an american diner that it would have been nice to cook it like an american. I saw a few burgers whizzing by. Which looked yum! I would be curious if the burgers were american style (spicy) or Spanish style (sweet). We had a few glasses of wine which was very affordable. Sorry Americans, no reuben sandwich on the menu. Boo! Don't let my 3 stars deter you. I'll definetly come back cause I like the atmosphere. Just won't have nachos.
