I golfed there to check it out for family coming from the East Coast. To my horror, even though it has beautiful views of the Pacific, the carts are horrible - old, missing windshields, and dirty. The restaurant offers very little. The downstairs snack bar does make a good sandwich. I would have been embarrassed to take me family there. I checked out Shorecliffs and found beautiful clean carts, bottled water and towels included and a fabulous restaurant. I recently heard that the city of San Clemente is increasing the cost of their course... NOT WORTH THE MONEY!!! read more

Very fun municipal course. I enjoy playing it. However, I'm not sure it's worth the (new) rates they're charging non-residents.

Beautiful course spoiled by the older clubhouse worker and club pro. The City needs to seriously look into how the pro treats customers and residents. Arrogant, combative, and very obviously selectively chooses to turn a blind eye to allow bending of the rules. Extremely poor representation of our community. Do better read more

I need to give a shout out to the course Marshall, Jeff. He went out of his way to scour the area between holes 13 and 14 to find my lob wedge when we were already at hole 15 and behind and fighting hard to close the gap. Thank you so much Jeff! You're my hero! read more

If you haven't noticed, the 2 guys working the pro shop/ starter clearly play favorites when it comes to locals playing in the early AM hours. We got held up 30 minutes literally standing on the tee box because they forced out 2+ full groups, not on the tee sheet, ahead of us. When I book a 7am Tee time that means we're on the tee box ready to go as soon as they call: our name, second up. Yet the starter proceeded to let 2 random groups go out ahead of us. No explanation, they literally forced them in front of our group with no announcement. Nothing like standing idle on the tee box for 30 minutes watching in confusion after leaving the range because our name was called and they're just squeezing in tee times for their friends. Might as well have not even warmed up. Followed up by horrible pace of play the rest of the round caused by these EXTRA groups. Thanks for ruining the round of golf we've been looking forward to all week. NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVE I CONSIDERED LEAVING A GOLF ROUND AND ASKING FOR A REFUND UNTIL YESTERDAY. MY HARD EARNED MONEY, WASTED. MY REWARD OF GOLF FOR WORKING HARD, SPOILED. It sucks they are willing to sacrifice your fair share of a good time because they don't recognize you. The average unfamiliar customer takes a back seat to whomever they see fit and that's a fact. DON'T WASTE YOUR VALUABLE TIME OR HARD EARNED MONEY AT Scam Clemente Municipal. I recommend anywhere and everywhere else above them after the stunt they pulled yesterday. I don't play here much anymore. Mainly because it's difficult to get on. However, yesterday I played with some of my friends. Some drove a great distance. Not one mention on my email conformation, or on the website about the greens being punched. Every course I have played at in southern California mentions it when you make a tee time . They also give you a decent discount. Not San Clemente. Full price and zero mention of it. Not even an attempt at washing off the sand. Terrible conditions. Maybe they should put less sand on the greens and more in their traps, the traps sure need it as some were dirt. I won't be renewing my resident pass next year. I never thought I'd see the day when Shorecliffs had a better club house or course conditions, but they have both now. read more

Great day on a pretty great course! Pace of play was on point, did 18 in a little over 4 hours. The drinks were great, the bar in the clubhouse made some fantastic Bloody Mary's. Carts ran well and the grounds were well maintained. Definitely will be back. My only real complaint is how difficult it is to get a tee time. And possibly some better signage for some of the holes that aren't that obvious. Other than that, the course is a diamond in the rough. read more

Best kept secret in OC and North San Diego. Killer course for a fraction of the cost. Good, friendly people at the course. It's a little tough to get on but if you can, watch out for the greens. They can be fast and have some crazy breaks. Super fun place, I just wish they would have the restaurant open inside so you could get something to eat and drink while you are counting up your score. My only complaints are you hardly get any range balls for a token, and they have a couple grumpy pro shop employees that will treat you like trash unless they know you. This is a great golf course very well maintained and very fun to play but I have to say the driving range is always packed and you would think that they are actually making money and could afford new golf balls. The balls are so old so are from the 70s and 80s it's like hitting a bucket of rocks and I feel like it's definitely damaging the grooves in my irons I would come here to play round of golf, but avoid the driving range unless you wanna buy a new set of irons right away read more

I have never played at San Clem Muni: Its kinda far (34 mi) to this South OC course. However, I heard there are some holes with great views. I wanted to check it out. Its located East of the 5 across from San Clem Beach. The first six holes remind you of a muni: Boring layout w/ no elevation changes. However, 7 & 8 have elevation, and #9 is a challenging par 3 into the wind. Unfortunately 10, 11 & 12 are boring again. The latter are back to back par 5's that is odd in terms of course layout. In fact, 1, 10 & 12 have greens that are only 30 yds apart. After that, the course gets interesting again. Thirteen is a brutal par 3 that is over 200 yds uphill. To give you a perspective, most guys can barely hit their driver that far, let alone to a small ass green. This is supposedly the easiest hole on the course (hell nah). Fifteen is another challenging par three almost as long as #13, and you have to carry a ravine. While 16 has a blind tee shot. Followed by 17 that is uphill and 18 that is downhill. The downsides to this course is that no one was wearing masks at the driving range, and the restroom at the clubhouse is disgusting. The latter obvi shows they are not cleaning & disinfecting throughout the day: Typical OC. My overall assessment is that San Clem Muni is a tough course and deserves 3.5 Stars. The greens are small and rock hard: You can't land it the same distance as the flag bc the ball doesn't stop. It really requires you to think. Additionally, the greens are really slow compared to other courses. I didn't play well here and would like to return to redeem myself. read more

Great layout and great people at this course but the locals are very slow players and that takes some of the joy out of it. Prepare to wait on every tee box. From people playing the back tees shooting 95 to people there to talk instead of golf. To be fair, the marshalls seem to care. The women play faster than the men here by far because they come to play and not chit-chat all the way down the fairways like most do. The locals in this course need to work on keeping their times down and fixing their ball marks more often. The biggest problem I see at this course is people who have no business playing from the back tees slowing everyone else up. Yer not impressing anyone. read more

Probably one of the best value golf course in Southern California. Even if you are not a local resident rates are still very reasonable. Condition has always been great since I have started playing here and when you factor in the cost you can't go wrong. Fairways are well maintained with an actual cut to the rough. Greens are always in good shape too. Bunkers sometimes don't seem to have much sand but thankfully I am not in there a ton. The course is pretty straight forward and forgiving with the exception of one or two holes depending on how you are playing that day lol. But overall a great option for established players and beginners. Back 9 will present the most challenging holes, but the back to back par 5's on the back are going to be the most getable. This is a great course for walking as there is not to much elevation change and all holes are close green to tee. Another plus is they accept walk-ups, and the other players in my experience have always been nice. Lastly you are in San Clemente so the weather is almost always great. Some days can be pretty windy, but just adds another element to the course. read more

It would be very nice place if the facilities were available during their posted hours. I showed up at 7:10pm and just got shut down from the practice range because "they wanted to shut down early" according to the pro shop. There were course attendants out an hour before dark on an open driving range, wildly inappropriate and unsafe. It was open at least to where I was able to walk up, get balls, get ready on a practice tee and have the guy who eventually told me that I had to leave look at me three times over the course of fifteen minutes before he asked me to leave. I'm going to try to avoid this place in the future and recommend the same to others, inconsistency is the worst. read more

This is a GREAT Muni course. Emphasis on the "Muni". I have played this course in 4 hours and I have played this course in close to 6 hours :( My suggestion is the earlier you tee off in the morning, the quicker your round is going to be. As far as everything else, this is the BEST course in OC to play during a heat wave. For some reason, this course never gets above 80 degrees (in my experience). The course is normally pretty busy. They have a driving range, golf instruction, a pro shop, a place to eat, and a snack bar. I am almost 100% sure they DO NOT have a beverage cart. The ONLY bad thing I can even think to say about this course is that their range balls are pretty beat up, and if that is the worst thing one can say, that aint bad. MOST IMPORTANT: If you park on the public street that leads up and through holes one and ten, make sure you have a back and FRONT license plate on your vehicle. I have received 2 fix it tickets over the years. Really sucks to end a round on that. read more

This is my favorite course to play in all of San Diego and south OC area. The condition of this course is really nice for the price you pay to play. Greens and fairways have always been in great condition. It's fairly open and very forgiving which is great when you're a novice, but still challenging enough for the better player. It's hard to find a better course to play in the same price range as this. Fairly popular course it seems and they are currently not allowing walk-ons. All tee times reserved online, but can't 100% confirm they wont let you walk on as I haven't tried. They have a range that looks decent enough, though I've never used it. They have a restaurant and snack/drink bar near the range. For the price to play, overall condition of the course and challenge of the course vs. my skill level, I seem to have the most fun playing here. I'd call myself an intermediate level player, though there are plenty of days where I feel like a hack and this course seems to be the perfect level to work on your game. You can have a bad shot and still continue to play your ball as it's a pretty wide open course. There's not a ton of elevation change on this course and may feel a bit boring to really good players. If you're looking for a really great course to have an super memorable and challenging game, this is probably not where you'll want to go. But if your looking for a nice course to have a nice round of golf at a reasonable price, it's hard to find a better course within a 50-70 mile radius. read more

Wish I had more hands so I could give their website four thumbs down. The website was developed by a coder from the early days. The website displays all of the possible tee times, you have to click on each one individually only to find out that the time slot is booked. By the time your done clicking on all the am times you realize you can only book in the evening. I guess we can't expect much out of a government ran golf course. read more

Have always loved this place. I'm a member at 2 other higher priced courses and always enjoy coming here for a round. Front 9 is more of a park style course with the back 9 having a few more steeper holes with valleys to hit over. People keep saying the greens are slow. I beg to differ. Maybe after a period of no rain it changes? We had a hard time keeping our balls on the green they're so fast. 3 putts all day long. They were fast. Approach shots don't even leave ball marks the greens are so firm. Rocky is my man for lessons. This place has great views, can get a little busy (but there's a reason for that) and the course has some decently long holes. $30 to walk 18 holes at 8:00 in the morning is amazing. read more

I gave this course a 5 star rating because it is a terrific course for a municipal course. No, the PGA and LPGA will never play here, but it has some challenging holes and sketchy ones with the neighborhood in close proximity. The greens and fairways were green and consistent. we went on a weekend and got a late tee time, but the pace was very good with very little waiting between shots, if at all. You're not going to find a better municipal course. Play here about once a year, usually in the summer. You can tell they have been improving this place. With the new club house and restaurant, place is very enjoyable after a round of golf. San Clemente Municipal Golf Course is one of the finest to visit in the scenic foothills overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Golfers should be aware that the terrain slopes towards the ocean, so plan for your putts to break more than they seem to. The 16th hole is considered the hardest on the fairway. The 405-yard, par 4 requires that the tee shot be well stuck. read more

My boyfriend plays this golf course every weekend. The greens and fairways are always in great shape and the ocean views are spectacular.

My son has taken golf lessons with Rocky for almost 2 years. He is an amazing instructor, always teaching him a little etiquette or golf rule with a great lesson. He also took a couple lessons from Vinny who is very good too. Great staff!!! read more

The rating is based on the course and the environment. One of my favorite tracks around, but the only negative thing about the course, THE only thing, is Cole in the shop. You always know when he answers the phone because it's brief, one word answers, and it sounds like you're ruining his day by calling. Dealing with him in the shop isn't any better to be honest. This is a review for the golf course... This is a MUNI. It plays like a Muni, it looks like a Muni, and it has muni prices. Having said all that... I think it is one of the better muni's in SoCal. Some ocean views, greens that can be difficult to read (always entertaining to watch folks that don't play here much) The course is generally easy to walk on as a single and even a 2. Some weekdays are down right dead between 10-12. In general, slow play is unusual, but not unheard of. An option you don't see much... You can walk the front and get a power cart for the back. They don't punish you by charging you more than half the rate. Some find the back difficult to walk. read more

San Clemente Municipal Golf Course - A quick shot I took with the Taylor 7 - Golf Near Me - San Clemente, California

This sniffs in at about 3.75 stars. If it were a little better maintained and greener it would be a 4 star affair. The GREENS are "slower than a snail in molasses". It took me a few holes to adjust and remember how truly slow they were. The practice green is even slower with super tall grass which I guess is to educate you and really get you to force the ball through the roughage. The CARTS are old and rickety. I thought I was driving a 30 year-old car. When I applied the brakes I heard metal. Everything is noisy here. No GPS -- obviously. Early on we experience another example of "Wild Kingdom". Apparently a hawk or a falcon jacked up a skunk. Tasty! There were skunk hairs scattered everywhere but the skunk meat was long gone. Yikes! Never saw that before. The weather was mostly cool, not too much sun but clearly heftier humidity. The FAIRWAYS are rather beat up. The course isn't very green so my guess is that they aren't going deep with reclaimed water. NOTE: This is cacuya grass in the fairways so don't expect to get additional roll on your drives. There are nice older and nice new custom build homes bordering many holes which is makes for a nice visual. A couple of holes have ocean views on the BACK 9. On Hole 17 we caught up with the red-shouldered hawk who ate the skunk (just kidding). He was fired up though as he seemed to be calling out to his mate flying above while we attempted to pressure putt through it. read more

Best golf course in all of Orange County in my opinion. You cannot beat the price. 18 holes on Saturday with the cart, my friend and I paid $58 each. Such a great deal. Also, the course is city owned and it is kept up exceptionally well. This will be my new course for sure. read more

Putting area - under construction Driving range - ok if you like mats Chipping area - I think I saw one * they let out twosomes, fivesomes ( if that is even a word ) it alllll adds up to SLOW PLAY. * Ladies, LIMITED restrooms. Very Limited, and of the 3 I saw, ( one including the one at the club house ) I consider one of them completely unuseable. ** Lots and LOTS of Seniors here, I think 90% of the people who play here walk the course.
