Instead I was part…read moreof their anti coagulation program. 2 years ago I had Deep Vein Thrombosis (blood clot) in my leg which resulted in a pulmonary embolism. Since then I have been on Coumadin which requires periodic blood tests to determine if you INR levels are too high or too low. This group took over the monitoring of my INR levels about a year ago. I'm sure my insurance company is paying these people for my care and no matter how little they are paying, they are getting ripped off. They don't do anything. They call you and leave a voice mail message with your INR results then tell you to go back again in X number of weeks. The value of X is based on what your INR result was and how consistent your previous tests have been. The previous anti coagulation clinic I was associated with would call you and say "It's time for another blood test" Not these guys, they only call you with the results and it's entirely up to you to remember 3 or 4 weeks later to schedule an appointment. Not the worst thing in the world, not great service, but I'm an adult I can keep this stuff organized. Why 1 star you ask? It's because of their complete lack of record keeping or customer service. I got a call from 1 of their staff and she told me I was overdue for a blood test (this was news to me, but OK). I told her I was out of town and that I would go in for a test when I returned on Monday (this call was on a Thursday). The next day, I got a call from someone else from the clinic, this time via voice mail telling me I had not returned calls or gotten my blood tested in a timely fashion. I called the number she left and of course got voice mail (it's impossible to actually talk to a person at this place). I left a message stating that I already talked to X (I gave her the name of the person whom I spoken with the previous day) and that I was out of town and would get my blood test as soon as I got back, which is exactly what I did. The following day, I received a letter in the mail from Melissa Smith RN and manager of the Anti coagulation Clinic, telling me that they had made several attempts to contact me by phone with no return calls and therefore I was being dropped from the program. There was no phone number to call no email address...nothing. I immediately called the only phone number I had and got voice mail (of course). I left a message for Ms Smith explaining that I'd talked to X on Thursday, Y on Friday and had indeed had my blood tested the day before. Nothing, no return call, nothing. Now understand that Coumadin is helping to keep me alive and without the approval of the Pacific Cardiovascular Associates, I can't get my prescription refilled. These people know this and still couldn't care less. I had my primary care physician contact them and after several days they finally talked. My primary care physician was told that they had no records of any conversations or voice mails. Obviously, this is a very poorly run business. I wouldn't trust them to change a bandage let alone do cardiovascular work on me. I'm sure there are fine individual doctors associated with PCA, but the company stinks.
