From the moment I walked in, the entire team made me feel calm, supported, and well taken care of. Nurse Emily was outstanding -- kind, attentive, and reassuring through every step. Her calm presence made a stressful situation feel manageable. Dr. Ridder provided exceptional care as well. His clear explanations, steady expertise, and gentle approach made the procedure smooth and comfortable. I felt completely confident in his hands. Every staff member I encountered was friendly, efficient, and compassionate. The teamwork and professionalism at this clinic truly stand out. Thank you to Nurse Emily, Dr. Ridder, and the entire Hoag Urgent Care staff for taking such great care of me. I appreciate all of you!

They didn't have a lot of doctors on staff, but it wasn't a busy day when we went. We wound up needing some more extreme tests and they called around to other Hoag hospital locations and were able to get us a STAT CT scan that same day. The doctor asked a lot of questions and was very thorough. This is a nice local urgent care and way better than going to any emergency room or waiting three months to book with your own doctor!

The front desk person was very nice and speedy because she could see the distress. Then taken to a room pretty quickly which was great - by an RN who also saw the distress and acted quickly. All good! Not sure if they actually employ physicians at this location? Was forced to see a NP whose English is so incredibly bad, I could literally not understand her. Have no idea if she actually knew what she was doing. Will hopefully never have to visit this location again because it really defeats the purpose of giving good medical care when you can't communicate clearly and adequately.

Washing the area is 'very important' each time the bandage is changed. Google that to confirm. NO WASHING, The last time a lady Doctor Lee tended to me. Same ritual: take off old bandage, pat away old ointment, apply new and re-bandage. This time she used a compression wrap. In the middle of the night my ankle was sore and my foot cold. Too much compression. So I cut away the wrapping. You never use a compression wrap on a burn. Google that, too. I finally got the nerve up to call my /ex/, a RN of 30+ years who told me the correct medical procedure, as mentioned above. So $40+ later from Amazon I am doing it myself. YEA! The one star is for the front desk - very nice people. I guess I could add 'Physicians heal thy selves', but maybe 'Go back to medical school' would be more apt.

I will say this, so far, it's going extremely well. The staff at my house is helpful and caring. They really go out of their way to make the people here feel comfortable & that in itself is truly appreciated, Esp bc I had serious fear and doubt about coming here at all. I've been pleasantly surprised at the level of care by the house staff. In particular.. April, Ivan, Tammy & Sutter have been a huge source of help in my treatment. I can talk to them about anything ( & I have had multiple meltdowns) & always receive a supporting conversation leaving me feeling very positive about the experience regardless of how uncomfortable I may be, feeling my feelings. Theo whom is my case manager is exceptional at his job. He is kind and very resourceful in all the aspects I ask of him. He is so well balanced calm and smart! I'm learning great EDMR & DBT Skills which have been a life saving tool in this process. Not using cannabis as a crutch was very difficult at first, I've used this for anxiety for a decade - Brian has truly helped me regulate my intense emotions through great breath work and other tools , Like EDMR Therapy . I can really only speak from the mental health program which has been fantastic for me.. I put in a request to extend my stay because of the positive impact this is having for me. I attribute that to the people who work here completely. This review is from my personal experience. It has been a breath of fresh air for me. If you are struggling I would recommend trying this .

Despite this presentation, the referral from Dr. Shahim to Neurology was classified as "standard" rather than urgent, with the initial neurology appointment scheduled for March 5. Although the appointment was later moved to January 29 after follow-up, it still did not reflect the urgency of his rapidly progressive neurologic decline. On January 20, 2026, I returned specifically because Steve's rapid loss of mobility over only four days deeply concerned me. I explained that this degree of deterioration did not seem normal and asked whether his referral should be escalated or whether additional action was needed. I was advised that the current plan remained appropriate and that he should go to the Emergency Department only if his condition had worsened since the January 16 visit. Because I remained concerned, I immediately took Steve to the Emergency Department. He was evaluated and unfortunately was discharged without admission, neurology consultation, or neuromuscular workup, and was instructed to keep the neurology appointment already scheduled for January 29. At that appointment, Dr. Frank diagnosed Guillain-Barré syndrome the same day based on his examination and EMG testing. Dr. Frank commented that he wished he had seen Steve sooner. Rapidly progressive bilateral weakness with loss of ambulation should prompt URGENT neurologic evaluation regardless of the eventual diagnosis. In his case, the diagnosis was Guillain-Barré syndrome--a neurologic emergency that can progress rapidly and, in severe cases, lead to respiratory failure requiring mechanical ventilation. Early recognition and timely initiation of treatment are associated with better functional outcomes. He ultimately received IVIG treatment. More than six months later, he continues intensive neurological rehabilitation, still requires assistive devices for walking, and continues to experience high level of pain. At a follow-up visit after Steve's hospitalization, Dr. Shahim commented that she was glad the Guillain-Barré syndrome had not progressed to involve his lungs, noting that some patients require mechanical ventilation. We couldn't believe what we were hearing and I responded that this was precisely why I had returned on January 20 asking that his rapidly progressive neurologic symptoms be reconsidered and his referral be escalated. Instead of being empathetic and apologize, Dr Shahim raised her tone and insisted she acted correctly. We left that discussion feeling that our concerns regarding the urgency of his presentation had still not been acknowledged. We lost our confidence in Dr Shahim.

To make matters worse, my partner has dealt with Lily throughout this process, and she has been extremely rude and dismissive every time he has spoken with her.
