We're a family of 6 from out of state on our way from Oceanside to Anaheim for a funfilled day at Disney. Unfortunately, instead we found ourselves broken down on the 5. Thankfully we could drive our van enough to get off at the next exit. After a quick Google search we found that we were only .2 miles from an auto shop but they didn't open for an hour. We pulled up anyway ready to kill some time until they opened. Just after a few minutes they saw we were there and came over to see what they could do for us. They not only opened early for us but also prioritized us and even offered to let us use a loaner car free of charge to continue on to Disneyland. We didn't go that route because they were so quick at diagnosing and fixing the problem. They were super thorough and insanely competent when diagnosing and fixing the issue. They knew what was wrong in record time and knew they could fix it and that was super comforting to us. They treated us like family from the very first moment we arrived. Everyone there was kind and made sure we were comfortable as we waited. We were back on our way in 2 hours. They literally saved our vacation! And we are truly grateful for their "old school" service. It's not every day you find such a treasure. We were super lucky we broke down where we did and had such a smooth experience that could have easily been a nightmare. Wish we had a mechanic/auto shop like them where we lived. I was just thankfully referred to San Clemente Auto Service, as I had intermittent starter/possible gear shift problems on my older Mercedes. I had been told to speak with Tom, the Owner at San Clemente Auto Service. I did indeed initially speak with Tom by phone this morning. From the get-go, Tom was so kind, listened to my car issues, offered brief possibilities, & openly invited me to come in for a car diagnostic check, where he would be happy to address my car concerns. Meeting Tom in person, he was just as gracious-as he was by phone. He had his car specialists conduct the diagnostic check (being hands on as well). Tom was about to share with me my car's diagnostic findings, when he asked to look at my front battery. In viewing it, he quickly saw that my battery cables on one side were loose. This seemingly simple finding, explained my diagnostic abnormalities, & my intermittent starter issues. That was it! Tom, with his caring/diligent/professional demeanor-quickly found the simple culprit-per my car problem, & just as quickly, tightened the front battery cables, & I was on my way=So appreciative to Tom & his team! I brought my 2016 Hyundai Hybrid in for a bad coil. I had previously had a bad coil replaced through Jiffy Lube. This being the second coil in just a few months, I asked Tom to go ahead and switch out the remaining 3 coils and spark plugs so I didn't run into this same problem in a few months. He ordered my parts right away and was happy to change them out while my dog and I waited. During that process, he noticed a cap missing on my radiator overflow, which was misplaced during an oil change at the dealer. When I pointed out the missing cap to the dealer, they denied losing it and wanted $104 to replace it. I repaired it myself with a plastic bag and rubber band. Tom had one of his guys run to the auto parts store and get me one for 6 bucks. What a good guy. All done at a really reasonable rate. Will use this service center for all my auto repair needs. I took my Jaguar in because a filter that regulated the temperature on the catalytic converter was bad and wouldn't pass the smog test. Took it here on a recommendation. Tom said my water pump was cracked. I didn't notice anything but he took a pic and texted it. He replaced the water pump and filter. $1,500 later, passed the smog test and the check engine light was off. A week later. The light came on again. So I took it to a mechanic down the street. The filter that had been installed was an aftermarket part and had already lost its connection. A couple weeks later, there was steam coming from under the hood when I drove for a bit. I took it to a Jaguar specialist. There was a loose gasket to the water pump which was, of course, an aftermarket pump. Now I have several leaks and it's a $2,200 fix. If I'd have avoided this place, it would have saved me a few thousand dollars. read more

I highly recommend San Clemente Auto Service. I was driving through town and my skid plate ripped off my 2018 Audi. I did a shotty patch job to make it to my house and called them in the morning, hoping they would take a quick look. I had already called Audi and 2 other shops, all said they couldn't estimate the costs for a diagnostics and suggested I call someone else. The team at San Clemente Auto told me to head over and they would take a look for free. They helped me secure the skid plate for the rest of my roadtrip, told me what I need to do to fix it myself (and save a ton of $$) and gave me all the peace of mind needed to get back on the road. I've been screwed by plenty of mechanics over the years, and it feels amazing to have finally found someone who just wants to help, quickly and efficiently without adding on any more unnecessary work just for an extra buck. My Lexus started having an issue with no power, flooring it got me just over 20 mph! That was on a Sunday of course, so 1st thing Monday I called Tom at San Clemente Auto, described the problem & he said I could bring it in immediately & they would run a diagnostic. Found it was the sensor for the gas throttle. They ordered the part, replaced, & we found that it started doing the same thing. There is a 2nd sensor, which they had ordered but hoped wouldn't be needed. They replaced that one, didn't charge me for added labor & had my car back to me later that day. This business is the most service oriented auto center I have ever visited... Tom will go out of his way to help you. I was stranded on my way to baja for a camping vacation. The culprit was a faulty drivetrain... Tom did not have the proper equipment to service my vehicle since it was a huge camper but he went out of his way to get me help. Something I don't believe to many auto service shops would do. As soon as these later outfits would realize that their is no real business for them, I believe, these outfits would just tell you that you are out of luck... Yesterday I had an emergency tire blow out on a drive back to LA from San Diego. Luckily, when I pulled off the freeway, San Clemente Auto Service was right in front of me. Tom (the owner) was super nice. He helped me figure out the issue with the my tire. Newer cars only have run flat tires and no spares (my destination was too far away to test it on the run flat). He didn't have the tire I needed in stock, but helped me find the closest location of a shop that could service the car and get me back on the road.
