However, he discovered that the part was still covered under an extended part warranty, AKA Recall, even though the vehicle was out of warranty at BMW. I own a 2012 E350. The car was damaged by a different garage - "Star AutoHaus" (in San Marcos, see review if you are curious) and could not pass smog. The repair required replacing the cam and valve lifters - a fairly technical repair. The car now runs like a clock, passed smog and we are thrilled to have found a capable, fair mechanic for my Mercedes. I have owned 10 different Mercedes over the years and do some of the less technical work myself. Very happy with the results. As a result, I also took my 2002 E55 (AMG) as well. How boring - All these Five Star reviews!! Here's one more......Our 2005 MB 350E is getting up in miles but still drives and looks beautiful. When the Service light came on, we dutifully took it in to MB for a diagnosis: $3600 or more to replace a major intake manifold. (Second opinion definitely in order....) Star Tech not only saved us over $1200, but lent us an ancient MB Tank to tool about in while waiting for the job to be finished - at no additional cost. These guys are the best of the best. I checked the other reviews and that is why I went to them to fix my BMW 335 drive 2011. It just wouldn't start. They took their time to figure out the problem and they did an amazing job. I was lucky that I had time, but then, I knew my problem was complex. The garage that tested my 2004 BMW reported it failed, miserably according to all the "codes" and estimated repairs costs w/b around $600. Wanting a second opinion, I took it to Star Tech. First, I was impressed with how clean their garage is and appreciated that Marty took the time to thoroughly explain their process and philosophy; fix the smaller/cheaper items first, then test again to ensure the Co2 sensors were legitimately failing, which they were, so I left it for the $$$ repair. Within minutes, Max called to report they determined my car has a special extended factory warranty for the emission system covering 15 yrs. or 150,000 miles; meaning the costly Co2 repairs would be FREE at an authorized BMW dealership. I was BLOWN AWAY... I had no idea my car had super extended warranty. Heck, even the smog mechanic admitted he'd never heard of such a thing when I took it back for the cert. Star Tech has earned my undying loyalty for the level of integrity they demonstrated by, A) making the effort to look up the VIN #, and; B) telling me to get it fixed FREE, elsewhere. Wow! What a find here in San Clemente. After a very disappointing episode with the dealership, who has serviced our Mercedes SL550 for the 6+ years we have owned it, we got on Yelp to see if there was anyone local that we could use and trust. We found the prior reviews here on Yelp to be completely accurate. Max diagnosed the problem, found a couple of other problems that the dealership had missed, ordered the parts and had the car back to us in 48 hours at a fair price. Ok who likes taking their car in to the shop, raise your hand....nobody? I took my '99 Mercedes in at the recommendation of a friend. I was hesitant, she's old and costly these days. I'm over the dealership, it's not even an option unless you like spending 3X as much as you need to. I don't remember exactly what was wrong with my car (it was 9 years ago) but Max explained everything to me in a manner that I could understand. He is patient and kindhearted. He took the time to explain each item, what was wrong, how it related to the car itself and the options to fix it. I'm sorry, what?! What mechanic does that? None I have ever encountered. I felt empowered because what I chose to fix was my decision, not his. Ultimately I felt like he was honest and I knew he would be my mechanic forevermore. Just tried these guys out for the first time. I was a bit hesitant as I've been having my other cars serviced at another well known place in South San Clemente. So I drove by to check things out... I am so happy that I did. Met with Max and set an appointment to have my brakes done. He even followed up with a phone call to confirm my model and order the parts before I came back in. Very Professional!!! Overall the service was fast, fairly priced, and they even checked on a few other items to make sure the overall status on the car was good. No up selling or pressure to "do more." There will be no reason for me to leave San Clemente as I will be taking my MB GLK 350 back there again when I need service. Ended up just getting an oil change here. I have an older MBZ S Class that has over 100K miles. It has a few problems, but with aging MBZ's sometimes it is like a car getting Alzheimer's and the computers just need to reset themselves. Anyway what I did not like was being told the car was not well maintained - it has been maintained through the dealership and just needed to be washed. read more
