Love the food and restaurant atmosphere! Sushi are good and sashimi is fresh! However, the service threw me off and gave me bad experience. Service was unexpectedly horrible. It took us 1.5 hours just for dinner. I understand it was busy but it was too ridiculously slow. The waiter was so slow and had no clue what to do. If the restaurant could train employee to provide better and faster service that would be great. read more

Why 5 stars! I was really hoping to keep this place quiet, so waited to review it. Packed tonight so guess it is time. I have been to the other locations and this one is right at the top. Best blue crab Rangoon that you have ever tried. Yellowfin is great, spicy tuna was amazing, sauces are great, kids meal was even great! It can get pricey but what sushi spot doesn't? Made reservations for my large party at 730pm the hostess mixed up days, the place was not that busy, manager never approached to apologize for error and expedite seating. 45 minutes later we are sat down at tables we had a large party of 19 people, we were assigned one server Nicky. Entrees were served with no plates, those came out once everyone used table and napkins. The soda was missing adjustment on carbonation, it was too syrupy. Sangria and Saki were good. They ran out of Sushi rice had to wait for more, that cause and additional 30 minute delay in dinner service. The food arrived cold chicken over cooked and too salty. Asked to reheat food still came out cold, the hot food was served on cold plates. Sushi was served with no ginger and just a smear of wasabi on plate, sorry but rolls at Publics. Overall server did what she could to accommodate large crowd single handed. Again the manager never came over to check on the group at all, pretty much showed lack of concern for accommodation of this party which was bring in large revenue for the night, but will not be repeated due to all the short comings pointed out. Michael our waiter was very good, that's the only reason we are giving this place 2 stars. This was the second time we went there, first time it was ok. This time it was easily the worst sushi I've ever had, not even exaggerating unfortunately. The fish tasted old and gritty, avocado was overripe to the point of rottenness and the rice was mushy and had a weird chlorine taste. Also took a long time and they were not busy, when we finally got our 2 rolls they were thrown on a plate. We will not be coming back, Michael was the only positive about this place. Unfortunately, the three stars are given solely for the food. The teriyaki chicken was delicious, but it took an hour to receive it. The rest of the party had received their foods and they were waiting for 2 teriyaki chicken orders. We asked for the soy sauce platters, and a few were still dirty as they hadn't been washed. The food is great and it's a nice place but the service was not up to par. We had gone a year prior (traditional birthday celebration) and my son's food took the longest (he was 1 at the time). I got dinner from here takeout the other night and I loved it! This is the first time I have gotten dinner from here, and I got the red devil roll, spicy tuna roll and crab Rangoon. The red devil roll was a perfect mix of everything I like, tuna, salmon and not too much filler. The spicy tuna roll is simple and was pretty good but nothing special (would probably get again as a secondary roll) The krab Rangoon was decent, I think it would have been better if we got it in the restaurant but it was slightly soggy by the time I got home because I think it was sitting around for a few minutes. I have also ordered lunch from here a few times and there lunch special is the best! So much food for 10$ (my fave rolls are the Florida roll, Tokyo roll, and crunchy spicy tuna roll) read more

This has always been one of our favorite restaurant. We went to the one in West Chase all the time but we're glad it has moved closer. The Krab Rangoons are always good. For sushi we ordered the Spontaneous Combustion, Tampa and Mexican rolls. Everything tasted fresh and the atmosphere is great! read more

Fantastic food and service! We used to dine-in pre-pandemic and continued ordering takeout from them throughout the pandemic. Easily the best sushi in all of Tampa! John (manager) provides terrific service, and the owners are taking precautions as well. Family-owned restaurant with 2 locations--we mostly go to the Carrollwood one. They were great--wearing masks and bringing our food to the car before reopening dining room. They even allowed us to pay by phone. Highly recommend the Kyoto roll (my all-time favorite--the thin lemon slice is a wonderful touch!) and the Blue Moon roll. The caterpillar roll is cute (sesame seed eyeballs and all) and turned our 9-year old son into a sushi lover too! Love this place--try it, you won't regret it! read more

First time checking this place out and wasn't disappointed. I tried a cocktail with tequila, jalapeño, pomegranate liqueur, and lime. I forget the name but it was delicious and spicy. Really reminded me of a spicy margarita. I got the dim sum as an appetizer because I've been dying to try it but never have. It did not disappoint!!! Very flavorful, hot, and delicious. The sushi rolls were pretty good too but as a side note the eel was pretty fishy which is why I gave this 4 instead of 5 stars. Service was good and I'll be back. read more

Ate here the other night and am so glad to have this place nearby. The inside is very nice and is unique. I ordered the strawberry sake which was great, and my boyfriend ordered the Long Island iced tea which was just okay. We ordered a variety of rolls; spicy salmon, bagel roll, the soft shell crab and Mexican roll. The spicy salmon here is probably the best I've ever had and the rest of the rolls were fantastic. Fried chicken karaage: nice flavor and fried perfectly. The kids loved this one. Dim sum Shumai: soft and tender with just enough juiciness. Aged dashi tofu: this one was not our favorite, it definitely lacked in flavor Tempura: nice big portion with three shrimps & mixed veggies such as onion, zucchini, broccoli & sweet potato Hamachi-Kama: this was probably our favorite app, it was a much bigger piece than we thought and it wasn't too fishy with just enough flavor once you squirted some lemon Miso grilled corn: these were on the cob with loads of delicious flavors! Sushi rolls: blue moon was a bit too fishy for our taste. Crispy spicy tuna was out of this world! I have never had anything like it. It was perfectly crunchy on the bottom with yummy tuna on top. Terrible, very slow service. Waited 10-15 for someone to come and even take drink order, then another 5-10 to get them. Food tasted pretty good but, a lot of our order was done wrong. I won't be coming back anytime soon. Hope they get the service issues corrected. My husband and I eat here frequently, today we came in for lunch with my father-in-law and left very disappointed. My father-in-law found a piece of metal in his rice, the host stopped by and we gave him the metal and told him what happened. We came a few times and every time it was a great experience but not today. $70 for sushi and drinks, poorest service and very poorly stuffed rolls (falling apart and no fish at all). We were the only people in the restaurant, server didn't bring us saucers, didn't react to us calling for her on multiple occasions, the sushi chef had to call her on our behalf.. very disappointed read more

We have given this place 4 tries only because we used to go when they were located in Westchase and we enjoyed it so much- we've ordered via delivery service and visited in person and service is slow, lacking of quality customer service . Every time we order online the food is messy and cold. Tried calling and they pick up and hang up the phone so, very difficult to get in touch with someone. I feel bad leaving this review because I am sure there are some workers that do a great job but think they need to consider who they are hiring, it really impacts the experience and doesn't make it worth it for the cost. read more

Samurai Blue is our go-to for sushi date night. We always order the volcano roll and the kyoto roll. I wanted to expand our palette and selected a roll we never had before. Our server, Heather, kneeled down and discussed our roll choices. We ended up switching a roll out for one she recommended. And that roll is now a staple, right along with the volcano roll and kyoto roll. When you go in, ask for Heather. She's amazing. read more

This would get a 0 if possible. Came for my birthday dinner. Server was extremely rude. Took an hour to receive out sushi and we only received 6 out of the 8 rolls. When we were 3/4 Of the way done the server came back to tell us the rest would be out shortly. We told her to cancel those two rolls and she abruptly walked away. Another staff member walked by and i grabbed her attention by saying 'excuse me' she looked at me and said 'what?' I asked for the manager and she said okay. Several minutes later our original server comes with the bill and i again asked for the manager. She said she would be right back and never came back. Apparently the managers name is Sarah, I'm not sure If she just chose not to come out or if the servers never told her we were asking for her. But for a bill of $116 where we didn't receive all of our food this is unacceptable. We eat sushi quit frequently from the Ybor location and never have any issues.
