If you're looking for an alternative to fish and chips from the local, but still want to eat…read moreseafood in a crumbed, battered or grilled form, Louca's is for you. An award winning seafood restaurant on popular Hutt Street, Louca's shows you the fish filleted and prepped to go sitting next to the bar, focussing on fresh produce with bare flavours letting the seafood sing. A small establishment it's best to book ahead unless you want to sit outside or come in early. Staff are attentive, helpful and chatty and the wine list is excellent with a decent beer selection. Louca's isn't too pricey compared to other eateries and the platters are decadent. The seafood here isn't fancy, its just great produce cooked simply in a nice setting. Good for a few mates who want to do something fancier than fish and chips at the pup or from the takeaway.

As your filleted fish lays on ice at the front counter bar, you are given the opportunity to select…read morefrom a simple range of SA fresh seafood and your choice of dressing. There are some imported barra's and other fish on the menu but I'd stick with what you know is spectacular in your own back yard. What was nice though is that you could go from a simple "fish and chips" up to a grilled atlantic salmon or seafood platter for 2 with oysters etc. We dined on prawns, salt and pepper squid, mussels and kingfish. The prawns were a bit tough but had a nice charcoal grilled flavour and the salt and pepper squid came in huge slices that were very well seasoned and succulent. The highlight of the menu was the tomato broth mussels. A huge pot came out and we proceeded to suck all the juices and meat from each well cooked shell. All meals were perfect for sharing and it was all complemented well by a simple SA wine list. The service was nice, but a little busy at the time and overall we were impressed with the cost of our meal for the quality of the dishes - good seafood ain't cheap people! On a side note, I don't quite understand why all seafood restaurants look the same - white tiles, white tables, white kitchen/bar? As Neale Whittaker from The Block would put it - "it feels 90s and dated." I look forward to the day when someone in Adelaide does it a little differently.

Samurai Express Okonomiyaki is the sub-brand of Samurai Teppanyaki house. Our first takeaway shop…read moreis located at 61-63 Grote Street, Central Market Plaza, in the heart of Adelaide CBD. We follow the traditional cooking method and cope with same standard as our Samurai Teppanyaki restaurant. The only philosophy we believe is that quality freshly cooked food is all you want for quick meal and also affordable. Like our Samurai Teppnayaki house, the concept was simply to create a convenient site that is mainly serving Okonomiyaki and Japanese snack selections, which are based on fresh cooking and traditional taste. What is Okonomiyaki? It is Japanese Pizza cooked on the grill. Our Samurai Okonomiyaki is based on lots of shredded cabbage with light crepe batter and topped with choice of bacon, chicken, seafood, beef and vegetable; finished with traditional Okonomiyaki sauce and Japanese mayonnaise and presented with shredded seaweed, bonito fish flake, red ginger and green onion. Okonomiyaki is your new option of healthy eating.

It's made with a variety of ingredients and you can choose your favourite version & add extra ingredients at will. I had a bacon onion Okonomiyaki with cheese. It was enjoyable. Slightly salty but not too salty, lovely and savoury, with a sweet BBQ sauce to complement the bacon & onion. There was an almost pickled or vinegary flavour in there, which I believe was from the carrot. It was an interesting sensation of flavours. Seaweed, carrot, egg, onion, bacon, flour pancake, & a few other things that I'm probably forgetting. You can also opt for a chicken Okonomiyaki, seafood, beef, veggie, or even have half n half of 2 different flavours. I think give this a go... Especially anyone who's adventurous or loves savoury. You can wash it down with a hot ginger tea, soft drink, or miso soup.

Paul's Seafood is my favourite seafood restaurant in the whole of Adelaide, and is the one place I…read morecan always rely on for great tasting food. Their simple approach to restauranteering works in their favour, letting the food speak for itself and saving the customer from the bullshit. The menu consists mainly of fish and chip style dishes. Though simple, Paul's does each dish magnificently, taking the philosophy of "less is more" to heart. The fish and shellfish is fresh and well-prepared and always satisfying. My favourite dish has to be the spicy crumbed prawns - crunchy deep fried prawns with a lot of kick, and they never disappoint. For such a simple dish, I've never had better prawns anywhere else in Australia - and that's saying a lot considering the great seafood available in this country. The interior decor is simple and even a little out-dated - but I feel that this only adds to the restaurant's traditional fish-shop feel. The upstairs balcony area is perfect for balmy summer nights, and complimenting a plate of fish and chips with a nice cold beer makes for excellent dining.

The place has a really good atmosphere - they've managed to keep it down-to-earth and unassuming, but produce excellent dishes. The rawness (in terms of flavour) of each dish makes the whole experience more organic and real. You just want good seafood, and Paul's provides just that. There's a nice balcony sitting area upstairs, which is great for hanging out in summer. The place gets pretty busy, which is always a good sign.
