I was on my way to my office and went to stop at this place that I remembered as being a donut shop, but it has clearly changed hands over the years. The sign out front says Bella's but inside the menu says Sam's. It is right on the corner of school Street next to St. John's church. The place is somewhat small, but has about six tables and maybe about eight stools at the counter Service was quick coffee was served in a diner type mug and was very fresh and hot I ordered two fried eggs, bacon, home fries, and wheat toast Prices were about the same as most other places which these days tends to be expensive due to food costs. The eggs were cooked perfectly. They were a ton of well fried home fries. The bacon was crisp, and the toast was thick. Coffee was kept refilled as necessary. The waitress and who I believed to be the owner, were both very friendly. The place seem to be busy with food delivery orders, but on this rainy holiday week morning there weren't a lot of other customers. I'll be honest and say the food was fine and the waitress was good. .....But it wasn't until after we ordered that from our blind spot seating did we notice something. I went with my mother and brother. After a while of talking and waiting for our food, my mother was like "..... Do I hear a preacher?" ..... to which my brother and I stopped and focused on the noise around us. We indeed heard a preacher. From this point on, we noticed and couldn't escape hearing a religious preacher on the television, that was set to some sort of religious channel. ..... What the fuck? ..... So we come to eat breakfast and this place is forcefully playing Christian sermons out loud? I'm sorry. My family isn't religious. I know people who have been hurt by hyper religious people. If you are religious, fine. Keep it to yourself. Don't force it on your patrons. We felt VERY uncomfortable about it and scoffed our food down just to get out. I don't know who's bright idea it was to have church in the middle of the restaurant but don't forget what your God says. Exodus 35:2 - "Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a sabbath of rest to the LORD: whosoever doeth work therein shall be put to death." .....So why you even open on a Sunday? We had breakfast on Sunday, April 7, at 10:30. Seated immediately and waited on promptly. Food prepared exactly as requested: crispy bacon, sausages, medium toasted raisin bread, eggs over easy, home fires, blueberries inside the pancake, real maple syrup, decaf coffee with milk. The home fries were so good that we did not add ketchup! (We usually soak our home fries in ketchup). Quality of bacon, sausages, and the raisin bread was excellent (not the cheap stuff). Atmosphere was pleasant. Staff friendly. Artwork, plants, and suncatchers on display are for sale and adds to the ambiance. Parking available on side street. Our breakfast was perfect. I was craving breakfast food and Sam's was down the street, so I decided to try it. I originally wanted steak and eggs but they were all out of steak for the day, so I elected to get the corned beef hash. The waitress recommended it, gave me the ingredients and was super kind. The food took less than ten minutes, and it tasted great! The eggs tasted fresh, the corned beef hash was surprisingly yummy despite being from a can, the toast was not dry or burnt, and the home fries were phenomenal. The waitress was extremely nice, and I would recommend Sam's just based off of her customer service. The prices, portion sizes and atmosphere are great! They will be seeing me more often. read more

This place is very small and when we got there every table was full. It was a short wait thankfully there was a table leaving within 5 min of us getting there. The service was okay, i did sit waiting for a water, I watched get poured, that was sitting there for 5 min while the waitress took two other tables order before giving me the water. We ordered for the family: Banana and strawberry Nutella French toast Kids' French toast with scrambled egg & cheese White chocolate chip & marshmallow pancakes Western omelet Hot coffee Iced coffee Everything tasted very fresh. The pancakes and French toast were light and fluffy and deliciously flavored. The omelet was perfectly made, fillings were diced nice and small so they didn't overpower the omelet. Home fries came with the omelet and were crispy crunchy outside but soft inside. Yum. First time the kids ate everything on their plate! They get most of the orders incorrect, you can order a breakfast sandwich 30 mins ahead and it is not ready. Yet in still they want money upfront no order ready. She also doesn't know who orders what as our dish took a tour of the restaurant before it ended up in front of us. The price is right and the coffee is good. But. After I got my food the waitress sat down at one of the tables. I think I only got a refill on my coffee because she had to answer the phone so she was up anyway. I got the cinnamon french toast with two scrambled eggs. You get a lot of french toast but it was just okay. As were the eggs. It wasn't the best diner food I've ever had. The staff greeted most people by name and most of the customers are probably regulars and as a newcomer I felt slightly out of place. Certainly no one went out of their way to make me feel welcome. I love Sam's. I love rolling out of bed on a weekend morning, rounding up my hungover room mates, and going to eat a plate of pancakes and bacon walking distance from my house. The food is great for diner food, and unlike my other favorite spot The Wheelhouse Diner, there is never a wait. I don't know what it is though, but one of the waitresses always scowls and gives attitude to my friends and I when we come in. I don't get it. I'm clean, I'm polite, I never take more than a minute to order. I swear to god I've tipped this woman like 40% trying to win her over and she still scowls at me the next time I come in. Since I like diners, and Sam's was within walking distance of my apartment, I tried to eat here twice. Didn't actually manage it. The first time, I was by myself. I was also on crutches, from an accident. The place's policy is, seemingly, that people by themselves must sit at the counter, however many tables are free (four of them, at that point). I pointed out that I really couldn't sit on the counter's tall stools, and needed to extend my injured leg. No dice. So out I hobbled to IHOP -- happily, only two blocks away -- where they didn't care where I sat. The second time I came in with my wife, 25 minutes before closing. Now it's the LAW that a restaurant HAS to serve you, whether you come in 45 seconds before closing or not. Still, they said they were "closing" and declined to serve us. So out we went to IHOP, which seemed to feel that they were in the business of peddling food. That aside, even by the low-rent standard of diners, this is a dreary, dingy place, and could stand with a fresh coat of paint, a bit of degreasing, better lighting, and for the linoleum to be pried up and burned out back. (You might note that of the horde of pictures posted, only ONE is of the interior -- and it's a tilted, out of focus shot -- and most of those are posted by "Yelpers" who haven't actually posted any reviews. Obvious conclusions are obvious.) One wonders how this dump stays open -- given the experiences of other reviewers -- and I can only think that there must be no other non-chain diners at this end of Quincy. read more

I have been to Sam's several times since moving to Quincy. The food is very good and the prices are quite reasonable. I have never had to wait for a table. However, the service is very mediocre. Every time I've been there, I have had the same server. I wish I knew her name. She seems more interested in standing by the cash register looking at her phone than providing good service. I have to wave her over for refill on my drink, wait for her to get my check when I'm done eating. Once I saw my food sitting in the window for several minutes. The chef saw me looking at it so he rang the bell several times and yelled for her to pick it up. He gave me the "I'm sorry" look from the kitchen. Like I said everything else is pretty good. The menu is typical breakfast food, also lunch items. This is a great little local diner style type of place. It is small with only about six tables and counter service. It's open only for breakfast and lunch. I have only been for breakfast so can't comment on the lunch. They have an excellent breakfast special featuring three eggs any style, toast and home fries for $2 and change. They also have reasonably priced breakfast plates featuring pancakes and eggs, omlettes and breakfast meats. I have also had their eggs benedict which was quite tasty. Last time I was here I had their pancakes and eggs with a side order of bacon. The pancakes are nicely done and very fluffy. Portions are good sized. My plate of pancakes included three large ones. Sadly, no real maple syrup, just some stuff in a squeeze bottle, but, it's a diner type place, you know. Waitresses were friendly and efficient although we had to wait a bit of time the last time we were here to catch a waitress's attention after we had paid and wanted a bit more coffee. Overall, though, it seems easy to grab a quick bite here. We saw many people coming in for take-out which seems to be popular with the hospital crowd. They also had some delicious looking muffins on display up by the register. Highly recommended as a good value for yummy diner breakfasts. read more
