Cedar Rapids, is by far the worst run Sam's club that I have ever been in. Most of the employees could care less about customer service and stand around talking, while customers wait in long lines to check out. Costco doe's so much better, they must pay better, because their employee's always are helpful. read more

I went to this Sam's Club in Cedar Rapids and was greeted kindly at the front door and decided to go over and look into getting a membership. After looking into everything, I decided to get a basic Sam's Club membership. The clerk at the Member Help Desk was very kind and informative. Then I proceeded to walk my cart around the store and found some great deals along with complimentary food stations along the way. Overall, good experience! read more

I'm a fan of most Sam's Clubs, and this location is not much different than any other club. Store was clean and tidy. Currently they have a very large selection of winter clothing, more than usual. There were some nice items at great prices---Iowa sweatshirts and hoodies $19.99-$29.99. Name brand items, too: Skechers, Michael Kors, etc. We had a list, so this reduced impulse purchases. We did pick-up a large bag of coffee from Verena Street Coffee Co., which is a local, Dubuque, Iowa company. Pretty cool to see local goods being sold in Sam's Club. The prepared meals case (think take-and-bake chicken pot pie, chicken parmesan, stuffed shells, fruit/cheese trays) was pretty impressive. I noticed more options at this location than some others, but maybe that's because the holiday season is upon us. We appreciated the self-checkout. Have your club card ready when you arrive because the door greeters are sticklers here. They also meticulously check your receipt (as they should) when you leave the store. Other than the food demonstrators, door greeters, and cashiers I didn't notice any other employees. Newly paved parking lot. Recommend. read more

This place is great to have in town. The lines are getting a little long. There is sometimes 3 people at a register. We only need one and maybe 2 floating people to box things in a cart. I've worked in a grocery store and I will tell you the set up isn't efficient. I'm spending 500 -600 every two weeks. Please work this out. Also the produce section needs An update. My English cucumbers shouldn't be at room temp. My Costco Ones are in the fridge and last 2 weeks longer. They are always mushy at Sams. read more

So I am updating my review because of the immense rudeness I encounter when I come into the store at night, specifically at 10 or 15 minutes before close. I understand that employees want to go home, I really do. But I am almost always out by 8:30 close time. I am usually there for a couple things and know exactly where they are. I was out by 8:35 last night, but there were still plenty of other customers wandering the store. I had a manager tell me once that you treat the client/customer the same at 8 pm as you do at 8 am. People can annoy you when you work in retail, plenty of us have experienced this at some point in our lives. BUT YOU DON'T TAKE IT OUT ON THE CUSTOMER! It's called customer service, learn some. Especially the male greeter with the fuzzy Uncle Eddie hat. There is a perfectly kind way to say you close in 10 minutes. read more

As someone who has had memberships to all three of the wholesale clubs at some point in my life, I would say that Sam's is better than BJ's, but I think that it falls a little short of Costco. This location has both gas and alcohol. I know that sometimes certain wholesale club locations don't have both of those, due to either logistics (gas) or local laws (alcohol). I hava always felt like alcohol was the one area where wholesale clubs really didn't give that substantial of a discount. Maybe that's because I used to live in New Hampshire. I also feel like Sam's $0.05 member discount on gas is somewhat unspectacular. At Costco, you didn't have to be a member to buy their gas, and it seemed like their gas was always about $0.30 cheaper than the other stations in New Jersey. Of course Costco always had lines for gas. Sam's never does. Sam's seems to do quite well, price-wise, on the mass-produced, national brand products. They also surprise me with somw randon good deals on products from smaller firms. They don't have anywhere near the quality of generics that Costco has with its Kirkland brand, though. Sam's does have one major advantage over Costco, however. It seems like Sam's accepts all of the same methods of payment as its sister company, Walmart. Costco pretty much only accepts debit cards or American Express. read more

Employees aside, in the end the cost of the annual membership washes out as long as you do your shopping in a conservative and conscientious manner. Utilizing the instant savings offers can help supplement the cost of the annual membership and saves a fair amount when added up through the year. Do not buy products that would normally be able to be found at other places at a lower rate when on sale, when it would be better to stock up on the sale items instead; a good example would be soda which can almost always be purchased for a better price on sale from hy-vee. Alcohol pretty much has the best savings of all the items. You normally receive twice the amount for the same price that you would at any other store. The membership is worth it overall, however I will say that if I didn't have it I wouldn't miss it that much, mostly I just like the ideal that I'm able to purchase the items in bulk that I normally would have purchased anyways and save some money doing so. If I had to buy them individually I wouldn't be too upset, the convenience of bulk buying and less shopping is really what I like most, and I do plan to renew my membership again just for the convenience of being able to buy in bulk and not have to go out shopping as often. read more

They need to take down displays that are sold out. I went in to buy some headphones that I had looked up two days before. The display was full of cards for each of the 4 colors that you could chose from. I picked my card and walked to the front to purchase them and was informed that they weren't in stock. Not only didn't they have them now but they did have them the 2 day's before. Talked to the store manager and asked why they would leave a display stocked with cards for an item that they haven't had any product and don't really know if they will ever get any more. She just said the company makes us and walked away. This happened last year when we ordered an item online and went to pick it up and was told that they showed there was on in stock but it disappeared. Both times worked didn't really care There is no costumer service at all here. I left my membership card in their trash can on my way out. This kind of stuff doesn't happen at Costco. Not yet anyway. and employee seem to actually care. Not really a big priority to Walmart / sams. read more

I'm a pretty big fan of Sam's Club. It gets very busy on the weekends though. It can be tricky coming from a two person household to make sure you don't over buy here. Certain things are just too big for two people, but on the other hand there is still tons of products that save us a lot of money with some simple menu planning. Their produce is really great and everything always tastes delicious. The savings are definitely worth the cost of the membership (in my opinion). read more

EXTREMELY UPSET! We have been members for a very long time, not that it means anything to the employees there but we have. We spend a bunch of $ every year and tonight was just the end of my rope. We bought a prime for our family dinner. $200+ we bought it with label reading BONELESS. We get to start preparing it and OH, HELLO BONES!!!!! it was such a nice touch to have the noticable bones on the bottom, covered up so we were unable to see their mistake!!! SOOOO we drive over an hour to return this meat that is open and the lady at the customer service desk was not so nice... very short and not helpful. The meat guys were awesome and nice. They apologized and brought us the right meat. We asked the customer service lady for some kind of compensation for our time, gas and tolerance.... "hmmmm, cant do that" so as we were leaving I wanted 2 bottles of water... they're a quarter... well the damn machine apparently is broken and ate both quarters!!!!! I told the lady when we were leaving and she rolled her eyes and said OKKKK! SOOOOOO, yeah, I'm peeeved!!!!! Very very unhappy! read more

I had an overall pretty good experience at this location. Everyone seemed very friendly and I had an easy time finding everything. It does not have the WOW factor as Costco. But don't let all those bells and whistles fool you, we are at these stores for necessities, everything else is a trap. Better then going to wal-mart, it's a great place to go shopping if you are planning an event or having a party or have a large family. It's not that it's members only because it's not usually that busy in there. I don't know why there's not more people that use this place? Maybe because not everyone needs to buy in bulk. read more

Been around for years. Sam's is a pretty good place to stock up and gets great products at cheap prices. But buy it when its there. Some things are there once and then never again. Also, keep an eye on prices. Sometimes things are more expensive than at a regular Wal-Mart. read more

Today, I was at this location - browsing in the produce area. The mangoes didn't have a price, so I asked a nearby employee. He wasn't sure, and inquired from another across the aisle. There happened to be a third employee passing by, who was leaving (had already clocked out) and he was helping the other two. These were all what appeared to be around high-school aged boys. The one that had clocked out helped the other, went back to get a scanner, and was showing him how to use it. His supervisor happened to see him (but did not notice that I was in the vicinity, or that they were helping me...), and motioned him over. I could hear her and also see her facial expressions, and she reprimanded him for helping, since he was not on the clock. She went to the back and he came back over to the other two boys. I could tell from his facial expression that he had gotten into trouble, so I asked,"Did you get into trouble for helping me?!" He said he had. I was REALLY angry. The boys finished helping me find the price and went back to doing their jobs, while the other boy left. I went back to the area where this supervisor, RaeAnn, had disappeared and asked someone to go get her. She finally came out and asked how she could help - her demeanor was VERY different now that I had asked for her. I told her that I really wasn't happy about what happened and didn't agree with him getting into trouble. She told me in fact that he had NOT been in trouble (although I saw this all happen), but that he was not allowed to help if he was off the clock. She said "she wanted to make sure he got paid." First, I don't think an employee helping should be treated like that. Second, I am not stupid and don't like being lied to. I have NO respect for a person like that and certainly don't want to support going to a business that treats its employees like that. read more
