Why did we wait so long? The decor insode is flush with blue and purple soft lighting and drapes, the waiters were very polite and straight on hand to help with your every need. The menu, well, we'd promised it was a quick bite but starters, mains sides and a forced down desert argued with that one (doggie bags for the left over mains were a life saver!). A range of unusual chefs specials suitable for both veggies and meat eaters alongside the standard brummie curry choices (dopiaza, rogan josh, tikka, bhuna etc...) meant we needed an extra 10 minutes to narrow it down from one of everything on the menu to what we actually wanted! As a sample menu example my choices consisted of: poppadums with mango chutney, mint yoghurt, lime pickle and tomato chilli mixed tikka starter for one Keema meatball curry with extra green chillies (just wow!) garlic pilau rice cheese and chilli naan and a pistachio kulfi to finish (only because we could, there was no room left at this point!) Cobra and Tiger beers were readily available alongside a small selection of spirits. A repeat trip may well be needed to sample the mango lassi here (I'm sure there will be no complaints if the rest of the experience is as good as this vist was)

Being a carnivore and vegetarian couple we always try and find venues offering the best of both worlds and simla certainly tick the box here! Our usual combo order of starters, mains, rice and bread (both naan and roti are great here) will rock in at under £20 and provide a healthy portion of leftovers for that guilty breakfast the following day! The salmon starters and lamb mains of my favour are always tender and cooked through, never dry and the salmon has always been filleted and de-boned (unlike other places we have tried!) I'm also told the paneer tikka is to die for, as in I'd die if I tried to steal a piece! Spice level is great for those that like a good amount of both flavour and spice, nothing ridiculous but a heat level you can enjoy by the end of the meal. If you live on the south of the city then definitely order from here, if outside the delivery radius then still worth a quick drive to pick up!

The food is too die for, it has a fairly typical Indian menu but some amazing Bangladeshi dishes and chef's specials. The chef will also make bespoke dishes to your requirements if requested. The prices are also amazing, you can get a 4 course meal for 2 for about 35 quid. The staff are friendly and helpful and will bend over backwards to make your visit to the outskirts of Brum worth it. The interior is modern and bright, although the toilets are a little dark. For group booking I would recommend phoning ahead and booking a table, but for groups of less than 5 you can just rock up and normally get seated straight away (unless it's a Friday). Thania Spice isn't licensed, so bring your own alcohol, it does serve soft drinks and coffee. The only reason I've given it 4 stars not 5 is because there is no disabled access, the restaurant is on the first floor above a shop. My top tip: On Tuesday and Thursday, you can get a 4 courses (popadoms, starter, main, rice/naan, coffee) for 8quid!! Bargain!

For starters I had sheikh kebabs and they were absolutely fantastic full of flavour that could only mean that all the ingredients were fresh. For my main I had chicken & kheema madras with pilau rice, with a buttered chapatti. Again everything was freshly prepared and the portions were generous. It would be wise to book in advance over the weekend as it's a cosy licenced restaurant, has a car park & you can bring your own booze. Overall it's a great Indian restaurant that's welcoming with freshly prepared food and reasonably priced.
