Mango Lassi. Very nice!

I've never been to Akbars before and so to be there was a new dining experience for me. The decor when you enter the building is really nice, a very open plan restaurant although very busy, so if u want to have an intimate conversation then ask for a quiet corner. The starter and mains were lovely, I really despise coriander but once I scraped it off the food it was a lovely dining experience. Customer service was very good also, very efficient and polite. I would go again.

We went to this restaurant following a good review from a colleague at work. I'd never heard of it before but as we were looking to try something new we decided to give it a go. We booked a table in advance for 7pm and arrived just shortly after 6.40pm. I was very surprised to learn that our table was not ready, nor would it be until 7.45pm. As we had all come straight from work, we were hungry and looking forward to getting settled at our pre booked table. The waitress wasn't overly considerate of the mishap, nor were we offered anything to help smooth over the situation (perhaps a drink or a onion bhaji at least?!) Although the food was OK, the lack of organisational skills to get our table ready put a damper on the evening which is a shame as the venue itself seemed quite pleasant.

Pilau rice and prawn balti.

My knowledge of Indian food isn't as expansive as everyone else's (English people), so as tempted as I was to go out on a limb and try something ridiculously spicy, I wussed out. Came here with some fellow graduate students for a Christmas meal and opted to play it safe by ordering prawn balti (not terribly spicy, I know), pilau rice (pretty tasty), with a duck tikka starter and the requisite "family" naan bread. Ambiance was very trendy, upscale inside, which you wouldn't know from the outside, save for the walkway into the restaurant. (I have to wonder if this place was a pub at one time). FYI - there is a lounge area for people to chill in, in the event you're going to be eating with a group (I don't think you can be seated until your entire party shows up).

I thought we would have a delicious meal at the Apollo I didnt check first and they weren't open so i crossed the road to Akbars. I love that restaurant. It is so welcoming. Comfortable chairs. Lovely atmosphere, beautiful decor, stunning ornaments. The food is delicious.freshly cooked and seasoned to your taste. The chappatis and naan bread are bigger than a dinner plate. I love the way they have two bowls of apples at reception. I had a red one.

Really good Indian food, large portions including the biggest naan bread I have ever seen. We got 5 dishes between 6 people and we were sufficiently stuffed afterwards. Decor is nice and the staff are efficient, the only thing I was disappointed in was how loud it was inside. But I understand with family style dining like this, those are the drawbacks. But maybe something could be done acoustically to allow for it to be easier to talk to people at your table. All in all it was a good experience.

Very spacious, great service, excellent food (unlike the high-street balti and tasteless curries) and affordable price.

Manager of the restaurant (could be owner also) was a polite and energetic person who showed utmost care to the customer with a friendly smile all the time. So, all the staff were fantastic. Secondly, the ambience was also very good, it was not outdated but more matched to the type of food served. So, we loved it. All the prices in the menu was striked off and it threw us a bit out of balance as they mentioned that the new prices are getting outdated. This could be because, they may be taking over the restaurant from someone else and probably not ready with new prices for the dishes. But we would prefer to know exactly how much we are spending for a dish that we want to eat transparently. Lets come to the food part. Some of the things that we experienced. When we sat down and starters were about to be served, my daughter was given a plate which was not washed properly and had food stains. When we pointed it out , they took care of it immediately. The waiting time for the starters itself was a bit too high, we felt, as we waited more than 35 minutes for the starters to arrive. Quality of the starters in respect to the taste of the food, was average at best. Portions were not big, but we are ok with that, however the taste was not up to the mark. Main course - Naan bread were fresh as was very well done. Both veg and non veg main courses were bit bland and lacked proper seasoning. Again, we waited a long time between starters and main course. As we are big time foodies, and we like to try out new restaurants and we have reasonably a good pallet and so along with service ambience and everything, taste of food is very very important for us and i think thats where Purnima needs to put a bit more effort and make delicious dishes. Sorry, could not justify myself to go more than 2 stars.

It's only after eating this wonderful meal, he told me that he has been coming here for months with his old friends. It's like he didn't want to tell me...like..I don't know...he didn't want me to tell the whole internet! On entering you, you are greeted with a plethora of sweets! No messing about! Much like Jyotis in Hall Green, it's a good move to have a sweet shop in a restaurant. The amount of times I have been stuffed after a meal to have dessert, that you can pick up some cheeky jalebis or barfi to have when you get home. It's a cosy and intimate affair but certainly not cramped. The music was very calming and I felt totally relaxed as soon as I stepped into the Cave. It sounds cliche but it's true! The place was so clean and modern and looked like it just opened today, despite it being around for a year or two. While in the Cave, I bumped into and old friend and his daughter who said they were regulars. He is a harsher food critic than me! They had a Pizza which they said was perfect. The menu is amazing! They have all the usual burgers and pizzas but it's everything else which makes the Cave more appealing to your average Asian restaurant goer. The curries are really authentic and not too wild for any newcomer. No Chicken Tikka Masala here, but more Achari Chicken and Lahori Haleem. You don't like curry? No problem! There are plenty of starters for you to try individually or as part if the "Veg mix" or "The Cave mix" You are a Vegetarian or Vegan? No problem! There are 7 veggie curries, endless starters and naans and rotis for you to sample! Me and my dad went for the starters option. Grilled fish, Baby chicken, Masala rice and Tandoori Roti. The part of this selection that blew me away was the Grilled fish. It's an insult to make the comparison, but the only similar method of fish I have had is masala fish, which can be found in most kebab shops around England. But those are laden with salt, oil and food coloring. The Cave's grilled fish was delicate, soft with a slight spice which made it a joy to eat with rice. The Chicken wasn't grilled but done as a rotisserie done with coating of your choice. I went for mild, as you know my dislike for things chilli. It was better tasting and a snip in price than other chain that does grilled Chicken.. All members of staff were accommodating and friendly which was a lovely touch. I really can't wait to come back and try the curries in particular because from the descriptions, sound unpretentious and genuine. My dad has tried some and can vouch for them being great! It is definitely a place where I would bring friend to eat in a less formal yet still lovely surroundings. But would feel fine about coming to on my own. And not a trace of Pork, Beef or alcohol in sight... p.s I forgot to say there was plenty of salad on every plate!

You can tell the guy what 'heat' you like ... and worth considering the heat settings seem tailored for Indian and Pakistani tastes. I go mild! Food tastes fresh and quality is good. Prices are fair. The pizza tho' I wasn't keen on. Imagine a mildly curried pizza sauce on sub-average base and you've pretty much got it. Something for the kids maybe! The tea at £1 a cup is awesome value and the Chai/Desi tea is great too but is rather less bargain territory. They sell a decent enough selection of 'Indian Sweets' but none of the ones I like unfortunately! It's a spacious place with effectively two room, plus the kitchen. Service is good tho can be a little slow at times even when it's empty. When I'm working over that way I'll usually pop in for a working lunch a couple of times during the week. It's definitely the best food place around the Cape Hill area ... at least that I've found so far.

A very regular and favourite restaurant with many Asian communities, it's a very well trusted establishment with high quality food. I've been going here for years with family and genuinely LOVE their food. They have a huge plethora of great Indian food, including; mixed thalis, take away Indian sweets, samosas, pakoras, curries, Vegetable wraps, snacks, rasmali.... etc. My recommendation would be try the mixed thali at £4.95, which includes 2 curries of your choice, dahl, rice, yogurt, and 2 roti's or 2 naan breads. Great value, not too spicy and the taste is brilliant. For take away, try the paneer samosas ( if they have any left! ), and ask the attendant to make up a mixed box of sweets for you, you'll be hooked. And finally, the ice-cold Mango lassi to wash it all down with. If you have any money left, ask for the chickpea curry, a medium sized box is enough for 3 people to share. They also cater for special occasions, and on several visits I have seen customers pre-order up to 50 samosas to takeaway. There are always queues, lunchtimes are busy, and on special Hindu festivals, such as Diwali, you can't get into the shop, as it's packed out, and they queue goes onto the street. It's extremely popular, and the food uses traditional authentic and fresh ingredients. The flavours are as you would expect, but they know good Indian cooking. Milan's has a name for itself, and you'll always find families, business men and even youngsters eating out in here on a date! You will not be disappointed with the food, service and quality. Maybe 1 day I can buy some shares in this business....

I love everything about this place but also the general area. We usually have a Masala Dhosa and sample a few sweets before buying about £30 worth of their amazing samosas, bhajis, etc. to last until our next trip to Brum! Another thing, when you've tasted their samosas, you'll never be able to taste Tesco's/Sainsbury's ones again! As mentioned in a previous review, this place can get very busy, in fact just last weekend after we finished eating, it started to fill up. There were 7 people sitting at the tables and about 10 in a queue waiting for orders. It's no surprise this place is popular and I'd recommend it to all, even if (like me) you're not really into Indian food.

I wasn't starving hungry and didn't want to eat a large meal this late, so I settled for the fish bhuna and a plain nan. The food was absolutely delicious I have to say - very tasty without being too spicy. Just what was needed for a late evening meal.
