I am really annoyed at my dad right now. Why? Because he asked me two days ago if I wanted to go to…read moreThe Cave tonight as I LOVE going to new restaurants. It's only after eating this wonderful meal, he told me that he has been coming here for months with his old friends. It's like he didn't want to tell me...like..I don't know...he didn't want me to tell the whole internet! On entering you, you are greeted with a plethora of sweets! No messing about! Much like Jyotis in Hall Green, it's a good move to have a sweet shop in a restaurant. The amount of times I have been stuffed after a meal to have dessert, that you can pick up some cheeky jalebis or barfi to have when you get home. It's a cosy and intimate affair but certainly not cramped. The music was very calming and I felt totally relaxed as soon as I stepped into the Cave. It sounds cliche but it's true! The place was so clean and modern and looked like it just opened today, despite it being around for a year or two. While in the Cave, I bumped into and old friend and his daughter who said they were regulars. He is a harsher food critic than me! They had a Pizza which they said was perfect. The menu is amazing! They have all the usual burgers and pizzas but it's everything else which makes the Cave more appealing to your average Asian restaurant goer. The curries are really authentic and not too wild for any newcomer. No Chicken Tikka Masala here, but more Achari Chicken and Lahori Haleem. You don't like curry? No problem! There are plenty of starters for you to try individually or as part if the "Veg mix" or "The Cave mix" You are a Vegetarian or Vegan? No problem! There are 7 veggie curries, endless starters and naans and rotis for you to sample! Me and my dad went for the starters option. Grilled fish, Baby chicken, Masala rice and Tandoori Roti. The part of this selection that blew me away was the Grilled fish. It's an insult to make the comparison, but the only similar method of fish I have had is masala fish, which can be found in most kebab shops around England. But those are laden with salt, oil and food coloring. The Cave's grilled fish was delicate, soft with a slight spice which made it a joy to eat with rice. The Chicken wasn't grilled but done as a rotisserie done with coating of your choice. I went for mild, as you know my dislike for things chilli. It was better tasting and a snip in price than other chain that does grilled Chicken.. All members of staff were accommodating and friendly which was a lovely touch. I really can't wait to come back and try the curries in particular because from the descriptions, sound unpretentious and genuine. My dad has tried some and can vouch for them being great! It is definitely a place where I would bring friend to eat in a less formal yet still lovely surroundings. But would feel fine about coming to on my own. And not a trace of Pork, Beef or alcohol in sight... p.s I forgot to say there was plenty of salad on every plate!

You can tell the guy what 'heat' you like ... and worth considering the heat settings seem tailored for Indian and Pakistani tastes. I go mild! Food tastes fresh and quality is good. Prices are fair. The pizza tho' I wasn't keen on. Imagine a mildly curried pizza sauce on sub-average base and you've pretty much got it. Something for the kids maybe! The tea at £1 a cup is awesome value and the Chai/Desi tea is great too but is rather less bargain territory. They sell a decent enough selection of 'Indian Sweets' but none of the ones I like unfortunately! It's a spacious place with effectively two room, plus the kitchen. Service is good tho can be a little slow at times even when it's empty. When I'm working over that way I'll usually pop in for a working lunch a couple of times during the week. It's definitely the best food place around the Cape Hill area ... at least that I've found so far.

They've got a great Mon-Thurs dinner special where you can get poppadams & chutneys, a starter, a main, rice or naan, and a cup of tea or coffee for £9.95. I had a vegetable samosa as my starter and a chicken tikka jalfrezi w/ boiled rice for my main. The jalfrezi was DELICIOUS. Really hot and filled with fresh green chilis - this paired with the rice was absolutely the bee's knees! I used some of my friend's naan to sop up the leftover curry after all the chicken and veg were done. I highly recommend the jalfrezi! Service was prompt and polite. The place definitely lacks ambiance but it more than makes up for it with the amazing food. Alcohol is BYOB and there is NO corkage! The Standard is definitely the standard to which curry should be. Definitely the best and most memorable meal I've had in Birmingham.

In all honesty, the internal decor of the Standard is a little, well, bog-standard, especially given how flash some of the more modern, bechromed tandoori restaurants can be. That doesn't affect the food however, which is excellent, as is the service. The prices aren't bad either, which makes it three goods to one average. If you want to make your meal the focal point of your evening (for instance, if you're on a first date), then I'd say there are better Indian's in the area. If however, you're a bit drunk (or a bit skint) and want a really nice, well-priced balti. Then this is the place for you.

I think I am going to say it…read more.. This is my favourite Indian restaurant in Birmingham City Centre! Manzil's is situated about a minutes walk from the Bull Ring and people in the know who know about curry know what I am talking about with this place. When you walk in, you are met with a homely and friendly atmosphere which makes it a delight to eat in. It's an old school curry house which I love. I really like the wallpaper! I have got to know the waiters as I have visited so many times, who are really chatty and are always happy to see you. If you see Hakeem, he loves his Football! The music they play is so random and unexpected. The last visit I made, they were playing Britpop hits of the 1990's haha On this visit, I was with 4 friends from down south who were visiting me for the day, who are tough critics I may add! I had the Chicken Pakora which was a great starter and just the right size to begin the meal. For the main course I had a lovely Dhansak which was really filling with Pilau rice. Manzil's speciality is their sizzling dishes which provides a good alternative if you are not in the mood for a hearty curry. The biggest surprise came when the bill arrived and we split it. One of my friends said "That price wouldn't even get you a starter which isn't half as good as that in London." Says it all really!

I'd put it down to them doing more sales via delivery. But judging by the reviews of this place it's not a well kept secret. I was brought her as a 'proper curry virgin' by experiences prior had been out of a jar and pub curries. According to a friend this was unacceptable, so off we went. I can't remember what I ordered. I know it was vegetarian and not spicy - I can't do spicy as much as I try. You get a lot for your money, going for an Indian can be an expensive affair but this was reasonable by the amount of food received. The service as well is excellent, always smiling and helpful. I really must go again, I whole heartedly suggest the rest of you do too.

I turned to the Express & Star for inspiration an there it was, an advert for the Dilshad Blackheath informing all that they had received 5* from Sandwell Council following their food hygiene inspection. This really is no mean feat and on the back of this, not forgetting their £7.95 Sunday Special Offer we decided to give it a go. It was a good start we got a parking space in the lay-by right outside their front door. Putting aside the Xmas decorations the first impressions inside are ok, the garish red, white & black chairs and décor is a bit in your face however it's not too off putting. The tables are finished with proper table linen and clean cutlery. We were offered the menu and then popadoms & glasses for our alcoholic drinks, the service was polite & attentive. Unsurprisingly it was quiet, say less than a quarter full and we could choose our table. Typically I'm moaning about the noise levels in most of my reviews. I'm not a killjoy but why do so many people think it is acceptable to shout at each other across a 3' table for all others to hear? Often made worse with accompanying expletives and raucous inane laughter. It was lovely to have a bit of calm. The Sunday Special consists of a choice from a set menu. It is a limited choice but still a reasonable selection that I guess would suit most. The jalfrezi & tawa were good for us so I didn't have to ask if they would allow minor deviations or if we could pay a little extra to upgrade. . The popadoms arrived promptly; they were unusually crispy and came with three nice sauces and onion salad. The very generously sized portion of two fresh onion bhajis was excellent, it contrasted with the less generous portion of sheek kebab which was also very good but no sizzler. Both came with a simple side salad. The main courses arrived after a respectable wait and very good they were too. Although my jalfrezi sauce was a little on the mild side for my taste, it was my fault, I should have asked for it to livened up however it did have some fresh chillies in it that did the same job. The wife heaped praise on her tawa and unusually for her finished it all off. The chicken tikka in both meals was very moist & tasty. The pillau rice and garlic nan were good too but the chunky yet crispy home style chips (extra charge) were truly excellent. OK, you don't go to an Indian for chips but credit where it is due, these were the best chips I have had in a very long time and they went really well with the curries. Also incl in the offer was a desert, I had a banana fritter and my wife had ice cream which we put together and then shared. The portions were a bit meagre however you can't complain at these prices. A floater coffee (extra charge) finished off a very good evening. The staff were pleasant enough but they didn't seem to engage with the customers, although I prefer this to a how is your meal every 5 minutes. Obviously the ambience is different on a Sunday night but for us it may well become the new Saturday night, especially at these prices and in the relaxed atmosphere.I think it could catch on. Just under 4* but rounded up.

Generally, most of these restaurants have catered well for vegetarians so I've just opted for that. However, Lahore Karahi disappointed me. It's more of a fast-food diner than restaurant. And that isn't just a reflection of their tacky decor but also the greasy fast food that is ready in minutes. And their menu has little to offer vegetarians other than chips, which are actually thin, greasy fries. Don't expect comfortable seating. The chairs are plastic and tables have seen better days. Although the restaurant seems to be doing well considering its open all hours (or at least whenever I've passed!) and it's usually bustling with diners. The absolute best thing about Lahore is that it offers an 'all you can eat' deal for a little over £7 that incorporates all the main dishes plus sundries and naan bread. Drinks are extra, and I can personally recommend the mango lassi as a perfect palate-cooler after you've enjoyed some of the spicy treats on offer. Strongly recommended, it's definitely worth the trip. The only downside is that it can be a little tricky to find somewhere to park. If you can walk it, do so.

We arrived around 6pm on a Thursday for dinner, and the place was dead. The interior is fancifully set up, and service is very friendly and professional. We ordered: -Vegan tofu curry (£12.50). This was a creamy, mustardy curry, with chunks of firm tofu (seemingly to resemble paneer), drizzled with coconut milk. Rich, creamy, tangy and balanced. Really nicely done. 4.5/5 -Tawa sabzi (£10). This was a drier dish coated with a mustardy curry paste, with cauliflower, potatoes, green beans and peas. The curry has a bit of a sour tang to it but was well-done. 4/5 -Methi aloo gobi (£10). This was also a drier dish, with a fenugreek-driven curry paste coating the cauliflower and potatoes. It was quite similar to the Tawa sabzi, with that sour tang to it. Also well-done but it was too similar to the aforementioned dish. 4/5 We asked for a spiciness level "just above" what they would ordinarily make, and man was it spicy -- not too much for us but bordering that. Overall, tasty food, great service and a pleasant environment. Recommended.

I had booked a Wedding Event for 300 guests to be held in August 2020. We paid £6000 as a deposit for the catering and venue. It was paid by 2 credit cards @3000 each by me and the bride's mother. Unfortunately, the event had to be cancelled with mutual consent due to COVID regulations. As per the prevailing government regulations we were entitled to a full refund barring some expenses incurred by the merchant in the process. We were given a list of expenses incurred amounting to £1494 which were highly manipulated and unreal. We were charged £ 200 for a food tasting event which never happened and charged for the time spend in e-mails, telephone conversation and venue viewing. These, we believed were a part of overhead expenses and were not permissible as expenses incurred by the merchant. We did not receive any services and were entitled to full refund. We still offered a liberal £ 500 to close the dispute but was declined . We were offered a truncated refund of £ 4506 out of £ 6000 as an unconditional offer in April 2020. We had no other option to seek justice and to apply for a charge back from our credit card providers. The process of chargeback was prolonged due to COVID shutdown, and we eventually recovered £ 3000 from one of the credit card providers. Unfortunately, the other credit card providers could not recover our deposit due to delayed and poor representation. We were already frustrated by the ongoing saga and eventually asked Itihaas to honour the initial unconditional offer and pay us the balance of £ 1506 . To our surprise the management refused to pay the balance on the grounds that we used a charge back to seek justice and recover our dues. The management decided to pocket a sum of £ 1506 which was initially offered in the conflict unconditionally. This was extremely appalling, and we felt cheated by the Itihaas management. I will strongly recommend anybody willing to book an event to think twice. You are in for an ordeal and could end up in losing a lot of money.
