You have have a couple responsibilities if you want to sell bagels: 1) you should not burn the bagels 2) you should hire people who can properly shape the bagels Unfortunately, Sam's has struggled to do these two things throughout its history on Montana Avenue, and as of late, pretty much every bagel with onion or garlic on it has those pieces charred and almost every bagel is very irregular, more like a horseshoe than a circle (with a disparity in thickness between one side and another). While Sam's is a better choice than H+H (which sells bagels loaded with sugar - blechhh!), we really need a good bagel option on Montana Avenue as Sam's just isn't cutting it. read more

Some had no labels at all, just have to guess or ask the guy working there but he barely knows either. I discovered Sam's bagels quite by accident while walking down Montana. The staff is so friendly and the bagels are amazing. You can sit inside in a few little tables they have and enjoy any of the bagels or bagel sandwiches. Bagels are crispy and just the right amount of chewiness inside. I was really excited to try this. I heard that their bagels are reminiscent of real New York bagels. I got their lox and cream cheese bagel sandwich with an everything bagel. Maybe I should have just gotten a classic BEC (bacon-egg-and cheese) like what I'd get from a NYC bodega. Instead, I wanted to try the lox. I was very sad to see that the bagel half on top of my bagel was falling apart! Maybe they sliced it too thinly? I did appreciate that the bagel had a lot of onion bits! That's one of my favorite parts of an everything bagel. However, the sandwich part itself was kind of a disappointment. It was falling apart and soggy by the time I got to the second half of the sandwich. The sandwich itself tasted kind of bland...one-note. I did see that they had capers in the sandwich based on how many capers were falling out of the sandwich, but I couldn't *taste* the capers. Personally, I think all other locations are better than this. The woman in the back who makes a Bagels doesn't have a good smear game. She puts a weak amount of cream cheese on.
