I took in two pair of jeans and a pair of khakis to have a rip sewn/patched, whatever it took to fix. It would have been $200 to replace the pants so $30 dollars total didn't seem bad at all. I did not care about her attitude or demeanor as I read about in older reviews. The surliness lead me to believe they could back it up with skill and efficiency. The return on the work only took a week. However every repair has failed. I will not return. I don't care if the owner reads this and doubt they even care. read more

If I could leave 0 out of 5 stars for Sams Alterations I would. I brought in my wedding dress to be taken in and a belt added. After measuring me for literally 5 seconds, she then dismissed me because other customers were picking up their items. She told me that she could have it done in one week. The following Monday, the day before I was supposed to pick it up, she called to tell me "she couldn't do it, take it somewhere else." Very poor pathetic customer service. Very frustrating for her to have my dress for 5 days to have done nothing to it to then tell me she can't anymore. And now I'm a week behind finding a different alteration place to do my wedding dress. read more

I have been going here for years, and always been happy. She is very efficient and does excellent quality work. Only one time did I have to take something back to be re-altered because it was a bit tight. She did it cheerfully and quickly for no additional charge, and it was perfect after that. I see some comments here about her being rude. I totally disagree. These people are mistaking efficient and no-nonsense for rude. She is not effusive or chatty, but never rude! I also see a negative comment about only taking cash or check. This is posted plainly on the door, so anyone who can read should know this prior to entering the business. read more

I went to this service to have a gown shortened. The lady behind the counter didn't even acknowledge us when we came to her - we were the only customer in the room. She spoke rudely and didn't show much interest in having our business. We left a few minutes later having had enough her attitude. read more

I just got my wedding dress and it needs a few minor alterations, mainly adding a bustle. We called her in the morning to ask if it was something she could do and she said yes, come in any time. We came in that afternoon and she was rude, snippy, and short from the start. She did not treat my dress with care, forcefully pulling on the straps and almost ripping pins in and out of the fabric. She pinned a bustle in the most awkward spot, right in the middle of my butt, and it looked terrible. I told her I thought it was supposed to be up higher and she snapped at me, "don't tell me what you think just tell me what to do." Then, another customer came in needing a prom dress alteration. She made me step aside and wait, wearing my pinned-up wedding dress while she helped the other customer. They apologized for interrupting, and we said oh no worries it's not your fault! Finally, she got back to me and I asked her if the bustle needed to have 5 points or if we could get away with 3. She huffed, started pulling out all of the pins, and told us "I don't have time for this, leave and go somewhere else." We were shocked and astonished, but in hindsight, I'm so glad I didn't leave my wedding dress there with her! I would not have trusted her to take the time to do the work well and with care after the experience we had with her. read more

I took my coat in and asked her to replace the zipper, but instead all she did was put a new pull on it.

It was quick and very good. She was very nice. I loved how perfect the dress fit after she fixed it and was able to look good for prom.

Sam is a no nonsense woman who knows her way around a sewing machine. She has been altering my clothes for over 20 years and I will recommend her to anyone who asks!!! read more

NEVER EVER bring in a wedding dress to be altered!! I went to pick up my dress and tried it on. The tulle was cut jagged and hanging out from the lace. The bustle did not go up properly. The bra cups were never put in. But the worst was the dress shortening. I had material sewn in a roll by my knees. This was a dress ready to be picked up. Unbelievable! I picked up the dress "as is" before she cut the material by the knees and did more damage. The original price was $330. I told her I want the dress "as is " and will pay her for the work she did. $300. She may be okay with pants and shirts, but never bring in a wedding dress. Always on point, generally a week turn around time but if you need it sooner, she can accommodate. I've never had any issues. She always says, "if you have any problems, bring them back" I have never had any problems - pants, tops, dresses, she's fixed them all for me! I'm short so hemming my pants is a necessity. read more

I took a new jacket in to see if she could match a small missing section of stitching on front. She assured me she could match it. When I picked it up, I instantly noticed it did not match. WhenI showed her, she got upset and told me never to come back. Instead of offering to make it right, she was so rude and unprofessional. I will never go in there again. Sam's is the most expensive place in town and she is also the most impersonal. I went to her for many years because her proximity to my house and I'm finally through. She is always in a rush and that leads to poor measurements and botched clothing. I would absolutely avoid her for men's clothing. read more

This is a much overdo review. Used Sam's Alterations when I was living in Springfield earlier this year. Took a Liz Claiborne dress there to have the hem line altered (raised and straigthened). The owner (Sam) had me put the dress on, pinned the hem, and wrote up the ticket--all very quickly. The dress was ready two days later. Looks great, fits great. Owner is very friendly, flexible with scheduling, provides next day alterations, and has great prices. Would definitely use Sam's Alteration again. read more

Went in to ask about a leather coat alteration. We called before hand to see if she did leather she said yes. We drove there and talked to her about it and she basically showed no interest in wanting to alter it and just played it off like it didnt need altered till we left. Very crappy service. This tailor claimed to know how to repair missing buttons on my wedding dress bustle. After about three weeks of having the dress, I returned to the store to pick it up. Not only were all the buttons not replaced, but the ones that were replaced were unevenly sewn. They were also incorrectly sewn to the outside of the dress. It looked aweful. And not only was the work bad, the tailor was rude and defensive when i asked to see the work before I paid for it. She told other customers in front of me that she had never had a customer like me. If you are in over your head lady, you should admit it! read more
