We went to Sammi's on a Wednesday evening and were the only customers there.
We had been enjoying our food until a large, dead, green maggot, the size of my thumbnail, fell off a forkful of Brinjal Bhajee (cooked okra/lady's fingers). The owner was called immediately to have a look and he took my plate away to the kitchen. He returned a few minutes later, and tried to persuade us that it had been a seed. I have had much experience cooking with this vegetable: its seeds are small, white and circular, not curled and segmented with a dark, brown head.
I explained this to the owner and, to prove my point, asked to see the worm I'd found again. Unsurprisingly, he returned to say it had been thrown in the bin.
At no point did he apologise, or offer any kind of compensation or price reduction. To add insult to injury, when our bill arrived, we found we had been overcharged: the prices they were asking were higher than those advertised on their menu outside.
In short: the staff were rude, patronising, and unreasonable - ruining what had been, until that point, a fairly enjoyable evening. Neither my friends or myself will be going there again: I would advise anyone else against it. read more
