Though it was very busy they managed to make room for us even though we had a baby in a pram. We wondered how they would make space, and we surprisingly saw a couple bring asked to move to a side table. By the end of the evening we realised that this was not unusual as many people seemed to move tables. Them seem to follow the typical practice common in many Indian restaurants of never turning down a customer. Food was good. Service was quick. Staff were friendly. As we were finishing our meal a group of 10+ arrived and were stood up the asle waiting for tables to be cleared. Not of plates, but customers. The group waiting obviously felt uncomfortable and kept apologising to us as our table was obviously earmarked. The waitress was told by the manager to clear our table as we put the fork down. Can't be hypocritical though! They made room for the party in the same way that they had made room for us. Would visit again, but only on a quiet night!

I was more pleased when I saw their logo which reads: "Masters of Indian Cuisine". I treated myself to an ice cold Cobra, placed my order and anxiously awaited my Chicken Tikka Masala, naan and rice. A few sips of beer later and my daily worries began to melt away. The service was fast, friendly and efficient so I didn't have to wait long for my main dish to arrive. The menu had a chili pepper symbol next to my dish indicating "spicy" and I yearned for a good, spicy portion of Tikka Masala... instead, what arrived was a meager portion of the sweetest, "no spice added" excuse for this classic chicken dish. The naan here is served quartered, also odd for an Indian restaurant making me wonder if they make their own naan in house or simply reheat pre-made breads. The UK has some great Indian restaurants, but unfortunately this establishment isn't one of them. I hoped to float in an "Indian Ocean" of culinary bliss but instead was left disappointed.

Just around the corner from our hotel, we found the Indian Ocean (as in restaurant) and hit a home run with this find. The food, spice levels, service were all wonderful. Their midweek deals are legendary and two people can generally dine like kings for about a tenner - these set menus are sensible in that they are dishes that you would be quite likely to pick yourself rather than some of the peculiar menus you see in other places. Unlike many other places, they are also full sized portions - the only thing you may wish to add to your order if you're REALLY hungry is another portion of rice or a naan bread.

But (there's always one!) I know it's popular and consequently the service can be a bit slow, but I get a bit cheesed off when ordering a takeaway, being told when to pick it up, arriving on time, and then having to wait another 20 minutes to half an hour for it to be ready. One time I tried arriving 20 minutes late, and still had to wait a similar length of time before my order was brought out of the kitchen! Another thing that drives me a bit mad is that although I spend an absolute fortune in this place (on account of how I'm addicted to the food!), the staff look thoroughly miserable and very rarely smile. A minor point maybe, but I'm quite fond of good old fashioned service with a smile, and when I'm lugging a huge takeaway bag out of the door, the occasional smile and a helping hand to open the door would not go amiss!
