I have two opposing viewpoints of our stay at the La Veta Inn on the first night of our roadtrip…read more First, the inn itself is quaint and charming. The courtyard suite was very comfortable. The courtyard was beautiful, with Italian lights strung above and a great big fireplace. A beautiful restaurant and cozy bar were very inviting. We were really excited to enjoy the hospitality described on the inn's website. On the other hand, we were greatly disappointed to arrive and realize that the entire place was shuttered due to the pandemic. Restaurant, bar, and courtyard closed. Our room key was in an envelope on the reception desk. Not a soul in sight. No coffee maker, silverware, plates, water glasses, or any other comfort of home. All there was was four walls and a roof, electricity, running water and a few towels in the bathroom. The website made NO MENTION AT ALL of the fact that these were all closed, so I feel like I was duped and cheated. Had I known, we would have booked a room in Alamosa and just spent the afternoon in the La Veta / Cuchara area, and looked forward to staying here another time. I would not even think of booking a room at this inn in the future without first confirming that the amenities described on their website are in fact being offered. In fact, I'm disappointed and pissed off enough that I probably won't consider staying here at all. To the owners of the inn - you should make it obvious on your website that the only thing you are providing during the pandemic is lodging. No services, no amenities, no greeting, no nuthin'. You are misleading and ripping off your guests with statements on your site that are simply not true in these unusual times. Be honest, for goodness sake. Don't bullshit your customers. 5 Stars for the building. 0 stars for the complete lack of service provided. -5 stars for not being forthright and informing the guests of this fact.

We especially enjoyed the wide selection of VHS tapes and cozy decor. Mike was an outstanding host with world class breakfasts each morning, top tier hospitality, and fun conversations. It truly felt as if we were right at home and part of the Cuchara family. Mike is deeply involved in the comeback of Cuchara mountain ski area and its was fun to stay with somebody so passionate about the success of this mountain town. We can't wait to visit again!

This is EXACTLY the kind of place I hope to find when I'm looking for a vacation. I'm not much of…read morea "hotel" person. Mike's inn is perched on the banks of a rushing creek (and the lawn out back along the creek is pure paradise), and when you stay here, you feel welcome enough to feel like family, without all the social obligations that come with staying with family. Mike is a local legend, everyone knows him. He is the driving force behind the re-opening of the ski resort in Cuchara, and has been in the ski business his whole professional life. He is a gracious, kind host...quiet and reserved, but is happy to chat if you engage him. He's a SUPERB cook (and this is coming from a chef!), and his breakfasts are truly outstanding. The place is supremely dog friendly, with no extra charge for a pet. (A huge savings if you're staying a week.) Yes...this is an older home, converted to an inn. (Each suite has a full kitchen.) This is not The W. Don't come expecting that. We found our suite to be twice the size we expected, supremely comfy, and the price was spot-on for such a wonderful stay with breakfast every day, and an unlimited source of information about the area. Without question, we will be back!

Newly remodeled with a conference room, large central kitchen, and lounge area with big screen TV. The 2-bedroom suites were wonderful. Providing individual large bedrooms connected to a common area and bathroom. Bedrooms and common area all had TV's and common area had mini fridge and coffee maker. The HVAC system worked perfectly with modern climate controls. What a bonus to have the Canary brewpub directly downstairs. Good brews and cocktails with a limited menu of excellent food. If you are looking for lodging in Walsenburg, don't miss the opportunity of staying at The Lofts.

We intended to make it to Amarillo but gave up on that. I called all the standard hotel options but everything was booked up by other families on the road. Honestly, couldn't be more grateful we needed up here! I had not honestly heard of Walsenburg but we couldn't have gotten any luckier! The private loft space was SO clean. Plenty of towels left out for us. Comfortable couches to kick back on while we re-evaluated our next move. And THE BED - we stayed in Loft 1 and that queen bed was SO comfortable. We had the sweetest view of the town square from our window and the snow covering the trees was a magical touch. I can't emphasize how grateful we are for the most unexpected space to wind up in. THANK YOU so much.
