Not great, not terrible. We had a room in the main building on the first floor. Only sheers on the windows, no drapes. Which meant we saw every cars headlights when they came and went. Which mere a LOT. They clearly have a contract with some construction/ road crews. Super loud at night...and no way to darken the windows. read more

The review is 3 stars because of the staff. The best part of this place are the exceptional staff. This hotel is lucky to have such exceptional people. Room gets one star. The big roach trap behind the TV got me. Thankfully it was just a fly that irritated me the 4 nights we stayed here. The place is noisy, from the traffic of truckers coming off the very near by freeway, the the very noisy corridors for guest parking. We were woke up so many times a night. And honestly, the worst wifi I've ever experienced. Took multiple attempts to get on wifi, to only be kicked off five minutes later. Thank goodness I had my phone hot spot. read more

What a shame the GM can't be bothered to respond... We stayed in this establishment the first week of May - and is one of the filthiest hotels I've ever seen. I emailed the GM Diana Cupps about the dirty issues and she has yet to respond. I've waited and waited. I've given her the benefit of doubt, but now it's the end of June and still nothing. To wait this long is a clear indication of her carelessness. Her inability to direct and follow through is nothing short of deplorable. The breakfast too was quite unimpressive. The Governor of Colorado has dramatically relaxed the rules for COVID, as I'm sure travelers already know. In this hotel, there were no tables or chairs to sit and have breakfast. Instead, there is a hot breakfast "to go". At check in, we were not advised that breakfast would *only* be for take-out. The next morning, the offering was biscuits and gravy. It's impossible to enjoy something like that while driving. What an image, huh? A fast-food place is highly recommended. Course, if you only eat a piece of fruit in the mornings, then at least there's that. No discounts were available 'because they were full" - $150 a night for this nasty place. Egad. Honestly, two stars is generous. The staff was super friendly and I had a roof over my head. The tile is dirty and missing half the grout, the room smells like old piss, the blankets are Stained, and the heater smells like it might start a fire. My work booked me two nights here as I helped on a job for a bit; however, I would rather be in a tent and sleeping bag (and that's saying a lot because it's late October). The owner needs to put a lot of money into update this place or at least make it clean. Also, I don't know how much you pay your staff, but they need a generous raise for being the best part of this place as I'm sure they read these comments and get neglected as much as this motel read more

This place was a pit; dirty, bathroom walls needed paint (were stained),tile in bathroom looked moldy. I used 3-4 sanitizer wipes to wipe down the furniture and fixtures. Felt very uncomfortable spending the night. I paid $125 plus taxes and had told them I was a triple A member but didn't get the discount. When I pointed that out in the morning the receptionist did adjust my bill. The only positive was the breakfast. It was prepared for me while I waited and it was good. read more

Stayed overnight on 3-29-19, while just passing through & I'm surprised to see so many good reviews. Cons: * Surly front desk, older woman at 3-4pm check-in. No greeting from her & she was annoyed I was there... sorry you don't like your job, ol' doll, but that's not my fault. She asked which kind of room, after I said I needed a room for 1 person, 1 night, no pets, non-smoking, least expensive. When I asked what she meant cuz I was confused as to which other info she needed, she rolled her eyes & sarcastically rattled off a bunch of things... "1 bed, 2 beds, king, queen, pets, kids, how many people?" Calm down, lady... you're in customer service... listen! * Price. $106 for an old, outdated, dark, unpleasant feeling room. Cheap mattress (felt like I slept on a hard table), fairly narrow parking spaces, my in-room mini fridge kept my juice luke warm. I didn't use the microwave, but there was one. Small coffee pot with a few decaf coffee pods... thanks, that gets me goin' in the morning... nice, tasteless decaf. Tea bags must have been 3-yrs old... tasted horrible & smelled like coffee... perhaps supply teabags with better wrappers, not the paper Lipton bags? The room just felt dark & icky & needed a good steam cleaning & dusting. * They do serve breakfast in the morning, but jeez... thanks for not telling me. I'd crossed time zones & was the 1st to check out in a dark lobby with the guy still cleaning the floors. I could smell food, but was told "breakfast begins at 6am"... it's was 5:30am in my previous timezone... 6:30 now... didn't know 'til I just looked at my receipt to leave a review. So I could have had food or at least a cup of coffee. The breakfast area was dark... so I thought unopened... so I left & bought an awful $5+ sandwich at a local McD's & gas station coffee for $2. * Seedy area. A homeless guy jumped out at me from behind a potted plant (sounds like a joke, right?) in the dark at the local gas station. I'm surprised I didn't drop my coffee, cuz he scared the life out of me. The closest McD's is way down off the highway, under a bridge & the only thing open at 6:30am... it looks like something from a horror movie & the people inside reflect the economic depression of the 'hood. This town, or at least this part of town is a dicey 'hood. Pros: * Nothing. There are other places to stop for less than $106. If youvve ever been to Walsenburg, you'll know that being the best property there is like saying you have the best cardboard box in city park. So yeah, its the best, the rooms were clean and they even had flat screen TVs. That said, take a look at my pics. Yeah, the decor outside our door was a wet toilet plunger. They have no elevator so if you're on the upper floor you have to drag your stuff up the stairs. and our room was outside the stairs, so we were treated to this noise every 30 minutes: "CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK" The "HOT" breakfast was ladles of canned gravy over hard biscuits. The walls are thin so the highway road crews staying here, partying, yelling and other unspeakable nasties were megaphoned through the hall and wall. read more

As one of the few hotels in a small town, I didn't expect too much. Our room was fine, the bed was made. However, when I pulled back the covers I found small hairs all over the entire bed. Our room was a no animal room, and you could tell they were not animal hairs. The sink had hair all in it as well, and the shower too. We called the front desk and room service was not available and they had no other rooms for us to go to. We had to go get clean sheets from the front desk and take off the hair covered ones. The front desk was understanding and took $10 off our bill. Continental breakfast was ok, one of the staff was preparing breakfast burritos in the morning and was very nice. If you just need a place to stay the night, bring your own sheets. read more

The most comfortable swimming pool I have ever experienced, however I am not sure if the poor lighting made the water look green or it was green but the water was a wonderful 100 degrees. My son had a blast. It has an over the top breakfast. The faux brick siding is starting to peal off. My room was very very clean! read more

Doesn't look like much from the outside and the room was modest but very clean and nice. Honestly, much better than we expected. The staff was friendly throughout the entire stay. We have stayed in 9 hotels in the last 9 days. From New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, San Francisco California, Utah, and Colorado. This was our last stop on the way back to Dallas on a 9 day road trip. We've stayed in Everything from Hilton, Hampton Inn and even a mom and pop casino in Winnemucca Nevada. The prices for a family of five ranged from 148-206. This being the most expensive place. We rented a "family suite" with 3 beds that was detached from the main hotel. Not something stated when we booked. The first thing I noticed was the horrible smell of pet urine and or poop. It was so strong that no amount of room spray could disguise it. Second was the fact that we paid for a "family suite" for a family of 5 and only had 3 towels in the bath. However, being exhausted and haven driven 8 hours that day and arriving at 11:45 PM. You can imagine how sickened I was to find hairs in my bed when I pulled the sheets back. This place is disgusting at best. I can deal with old and outdated. I have stayed in places like that before. I can't however handle dirty and stench. Do not stay here. I will be writing to corporate as well. Edit: I got up to take a shower and clean the filth off me and there was no soap anywhere in the room and all he dispensers were empty. When I told the women (Diana Cupps) about our stay, she seemed more concerned that I put it on yelp and asked why at 11:45 I didn't call someone to fix these things. How in the hell do you fix the smell of dog urine and shouldn't the place have been cleaned before we got there? She comped my room so I'm editing the fact that we didn't have to pay. However my husband being a master plumber should also send them a bill for all he times we had to plunge the toilet that doesn't flush. This place is disgusting and that putting it nicely. read more

Great hotel for a small town. My boyfriend and I stayed here for a night and the staff was very nice and the room was clean. Of course because of covid rules we had to ask for more pillows, however we were informed of the lack of pillows at check in. The breakfast was good and so was the coffee. Overall this is a nice place to stay when passing through. read more

PROS: Affordable rates, great location (scenic!), immaculately clean, off the main highway (quiet), windows have screens (can open without bugs), granite bathroom counter with good mirror lighting, nice linens and soft pillows, safe layout (motel-style built in U-shape with rooms/parking spaces interior and not visible from road), indoor pool, pet friendly, VERY reasonable ($10) pet fee with gift bag (waste bags, treats, & coupons) on check-in, smoke-free and pet-free rooms available, free breakfast, friendly/helpful staff. CONS: Not much in walking distance (one gas station, two fast food), rooms a little on the small side, fixtures/decor outdated but in good repair. One picture was hung crooked and stuck that way, which bothered my OCD side... ;-) Pros far outweighed the cons. Keeping this one on the list! read more

After traveling all day for my job taking pictures of whistling worblers, all I wanted was a quick place to stay for a few hours. I walked in to this place and was immediately punched in the face. THAT WASNT EVEN THE WORST PART. The girl at the front desk just stood there laughing and taking pictures. She didn't call the cops or anything. The guy that did it wrote down his phone number and gave it to her. She smiled at him and tucked the number in her bra. Standard protocol at best western training camp? I think not. The hotel was almost full, so we had no choice but were happy they still had one of the suites available! Our room had 2 beds (and a separate bedroom with another double bed) also a kitchen with full-size refrigerator. The room was clean and quiet. The only odd thing was the batroom was located thru the bedroom so made it a little awkward with the kids going back and forth thru the room at times (would have been more handy having an entry thru the main area of hotel room). We enjoyed the continental breakfast and the Biscuits and Gravy are a MUST - you won't be disappointed!! The breakfast seating area is a little crowded (as in the case for a lot of hotels w/ continental breakfast), so we just filled our plates and went back to our room (since we had the kitchen and dining table) - no need to take up space where someone else may need! We checed out the pool area and it was clean. Unfortunately the kids couldn't go swimming because it was too cold and windy outside so we didn't want them to have to walk back and forth with their swimming suits on and wet hair afterwards since the pool is located in the main building. Overall, a good experience for the price and next time will bring food, drinks, etc and really take advantage of the suite and having the kitchen in our room! read more

Not only is the place a dump, we didn't have running water the two nights we were there, they are liars. I requested a refund for our stay, and was assured by one manager that we would receive a full refund. When I went to check out, I left my email address to get confirmation of our refund. Upon returning home, another manager said that they were only going to refund one night, of our two night stay. Now I am on the phone with my credit card company to get the promised two nights refund. read more

This hotel was just fine. We had business in Walsenberg and had only a couple choices for lodging. I think we picked the best. The staff was friendly and the rooms were comfortable. I was originally scared since the rooms we were placed in had outside entrances, which if you have read any of my previous reviews for a Best Western (in another town) did not turn out well in the past. We had no issues though, which was a pleasant surprise. Each morning there was a new hot breakfast item from a friendly cook, also a pleasant surprise. The items included a breakfast sandwich, breakfast burrito, etc. I was really happy that we had a room when a large snow storm started and the place was booked solid after 25 was closed going south. I would not hesitate staying here again if in Walsenberg. read more

If you have pets with you, keep on driving. We arrived with our dog and were assigned a "pet room" which smelled overwhelmingly of cat urine. When we complained, we were moved to another room, which I later learned is not usually a pet room, but is used that way at times. It took a few hours for the smells (of previous canine and feline visitors) to fully emerge and the smell kept me up at night. When I reported the smell in the morning, the manager had no response or apology. The owners clearly have pride in their motel and I would imagine the non-pet rooms would be much nicer. For $117 a night, this Best Western is the worst we have ever stayed at! The grounds are absolutely disgusting; full of dog feces, garbage, and vomit. There is no clock in the room, the door keys repeatedly do not work, the doors are all cracked, the tub will not hold water for a bath, the plumbing fixtures leak, and there was A MOUSE in the room! The front desk responded, "open the door and they will leave, they come inside to escape the cold." Really, genius? I can say that the room appears relatively clean, but I'm sure it only APPEARS that way. The lobby of the hotel looked lovely, but for some reason our family was stuck in the old and outdated section of the hotel? We will be complaining to Management in the morning and should have just left immediately. We are Best Western Reward members, and have always stayed at their hotels. For $45 a night, I'd be satisfied. But this is filthy for over $100! Skip this town altogether, if you'd like any food besides KFC and Taco Bell. MORNING UPDATE: Manager agreed with all of our concerns and gave us a new, discounted rate for our room that is more reflective of our overnight stay. She apologized and didn't know why the evening shift had given us the room he did, as that section is being fully renovated and is not even complete! So, thank you Best Western for making it right in the end! I've updated stars to 3, which is fair all things considered. read more

Who knew that the ridiculously high price of nearly $300 would give you a trip to the 1970s? I guess the fact that this hotel has a monopoly on highway business in that area gives the management the right to overcharge horribly for out-of-date, nasty rooms. We had a 3 queen bed room that must have previously been an apartment. The kitchen had a fridge and stove from the 70s in lovely mustard yellow. The fridge sang us the song of its people, and it made disco sound beautiful. Its loud roar kept us awake. I suppose we could have gone into the windowless room with the third bed in it, but there was only a fan, no access to the wildly inefficient, insufficient window air conditioning unit... so we didn't go there. Also in that windowless room was access to the two holes in the closet wall (little homes for your rodent pets? Wait, no. No pets allowed.), which gave me the creeps. The shower worked, but alas wouldn't turn off. So... sorry environment, I left the tub running because I had no other choice. If you must travel I25 near Walsenberg, make sure you have made reservations ANYWHERE ELSE. Don't get stuck like we did and have to use this gouging, disgusting place. read more

I would rate this motel very well. The room was very clean, the bed comfortable, and the air worked well. The area was not noisy nor did we feel uncomfortable at any time. The breakfast was wonderful. They had the normal cereals, bread, bagels but they also had a young man that was making breakfast burritos. You ordered them and he cooked and delivered them to your table. They were delicious. The only downside was there was no bar soaps in the room. They had containers on the wall with hand soap, body soap, shampoo, and conditioner but they didn't work. They were either empty or the spout was dried out so it couldn't come out. We had a very good stay and would recommend this hotel. read more

Everything went beautifully! I had booked through Expedia and called the hotel due to special requests. I found out I had done it wrong and had to start over. The receptionist was extremely pleasant and patient. She was very busy and at one point offered to call me back rather than be interrupted. To my utter shock, she actually did call me back! And went over and above to book 3 rooms close together or connected to help a 92 year old, wheelchair bound traveler and family to support. I arrived early, fully expecting rooms to be wrong or not available and all was better than expected! 2 connected, 1 wheelchair accessible and 1 across the hall. During the stay, my Dad had an accident. Housekeeping was beyond accommodating helping clean up. I made several trips to the front desk for questions - all answered with a smile and a genuinely nice conversation. AND the breakfast! I expected a nice continental, or maybe not so nice. There was a cooked breakfast every morning, the woman cooking was incredibly pleasant and fast. This is a very remote location and I didn't expect a lot. I also do a lot of traveling, usually staying in high end places (not Four Seasons but, Marriott and higher end business travel). This was on par accommodations and far exceeded in service. BW, if you read these, I hope you take the time to recognize this little highway pitstop in Walsenberg, CO for OUTSTANDING service! I asked for the lady who did my booking and she on vacation, I think her name was Andrea - please send her a special thank you! While she was great, everyone there was equally efficient, friendly and just plain great!! Only downside...wish you had an outdoor pool but, ah well...knew that going in. I've officially fallen in love with Best Western. All of their hotels have been consistent and at great rates for a cheapskate like me. The young woman working the front desk seemed to be working alone but was polite and helpful even though she was being pulled a million different directions by guests. They have a larger than average breakfast dining area and all rooms seem to included a fridge and microwave. The rooms are super spacious and beds ideal for a good nights sleep. This is a decent, cheap motel in the middle of nowhere. There are no other choices if you are near Walsenburg. My wife and I stayed here for one night, to break up our long drive while traveling through Colorado and New Mexico. The hotel was OK and the free breakfast was fine. There were no problems with this stay. The room was normal, no problems. There is an indoor swimming pool and hot tub. I used the hot tub in the early morning, and it was good. The hotel is located at a dusty crossroads where there is a convenience store, gas station and truck stop. The actual town of Walsenburg is a couple miles away, and the town is more substantial than I expected. This hotel room cost me about $85 (AAA rate) and I have no complaints. read more

We stayed here after spending 870 miles on the road. We first called a local motel, but they were booked. Not sure of the price difference between small local motels or Beat Western, but we couldn't have been happier. Exterior and interior was super clean. Lobby was big and service was top notch. Once in the room, it was clean, stocked and all around modern looking. We let the kids swim in the pool before bed and they had a blast. Pool and hot tub were also clean and well kept up. Bed was comfortable, clean and soft bedding. Flat screen tv. Breakfast the next morning was fabulous!!! Continental breakfast plus hot complimentary breakfast too!! The Best Western Rambler is an older property that seems to be well maintained. My room was clean on arrival and was cleaned everyday I was there. Desk staff was very friendly and helpful when I had a problem with my keycard. Passed by maintenance staff in the parking lot and they stopped to enquire about any problems I might have had. Friendly bunch all around! Breakfast in the morning was good. I've seen better and worse, so I'd give it an average. My corporate travel profile asks to be kept away from noisy environments (up at 4am and returning at midnight) and they honored all my requests. I'd stay there again if I'm back in Walsenburg. Wi-Fi was a bit sketchy dropping in and out at times. They might think of another wireless router at the opposite end. read more

The Motel was very clean, and the Manager was very nice, however, the response I received with regard to the phone not working in Our room, as well as the microwave not working was poor. I stayed here for 2 nights, and had made mention to the front desk about this issue twice, and no attempts had been made to correct the problem. They did not offer to give us another room, or correct the issue. It was ignored both times, and I felt corporate should know so I called them, and of course no mention was offered to make any type of compensation for this issue. I was also advised that a sign was posted at the front desk by my girlfriend that if you stayed 2 nights which we did you would receive a third night free. This offer was also advertised recently on TV. I advised corporate of this, and they stated I would not receive it because I would have to stay at a Best Western again to earn it, and I would have to be a member of their hotel. Again, I was never told this upon checking in to the hotel by the Manager. I will never stay at a Best Western again after this experience. They failed to properly communicate with me, and rectify my complaints. read more
