My Son wanted to fix the deviated septum and fix the nose from outside (rhinoplasty). Dr. Undavia told us that it'll be fixed and the nose will look much better after the surgery. He showed the pictures and said the nose will look like those pictures after the surgery. After the surgery the nose doesn't look close to those pictures. The surgery took place on December 13, 2018 when he was 16 years and 8 months. After the surgery he came out of the operating room and told us that it was the most difficult surgery because during the surgery nose collapsed and Dr. Undavia had to Google how to fix the nose. He took a lot of grafting. The surgery was also very long. After the surgery, we kept going to him to follow up and kept asking him why the nose swelling is not going away after a year. He said that it'll be better in 2 years but it didn't fix the issue. Then he said that the swelling will go away after 5 years which is very unusual and we believed what he told us. Now we found out why he wanted us to wait for 5 years because my son was under 18 years when the surgery took place. There is a timebar of 2 years after the surgery and if the patient is under 18 then the patient has 2 more years after the patient turns 18 years for filing a medical malpractice case. We can't file a medical malpractice case against him because of the timebar. Also, the terbonites nodes to make room for breathing. That didn't fix the breathing. He kept telling us that he's too sensitive about the nose. He can go to do the facial and he said the nose shape is good when it is not. We went for a 2nd opinion and the doctor said that the turbinates were not fixed properly and that it shouldn't take more than one year for swelling to go away. The doctors are surprised to learn that Dr. Undavia told us to wait for so long. Every follow up visit we had, he kept telling us to wait and gave us different reasons. After the surgery, my son didn't feel good due to which he suffered a lot in personal life and academic life. His motivation went down and his grades, which were improving before the surgery, went down after the surgery. It took him a long time to get on track and he's still suffering from it. A few years ago I went to Dr Undavia for face fillers. He did a very good job which lasted almost two years. Six months ago I went back to him for the same treatment but the results were very different. After a few weeks I had severe puffiness under my eyes the result of too much filler, which he then dissolved . I needed a growth removed from my sinus cavity. Dr. Samir Undavia, Penn Medicine, Princeton Medical Center, Princeton, NJ said it was rare and I would have to go to Penn Med in Philadelphia, PA to see Nithin Adappa (the only Dr. in the area that Dr. Undavia said could do this procedure). He said it would a out-patient procedure (in/out in the same day) procedure. We told him Philadelphia would be inconvenient and wasn't there anywhere closer and he said New York City or Newark, NJ was the only other option. We reluctantly went to Penn Medicine in Philly to see Dr. Nithin Adappa and he said he could do the surgery and would be keeping me in the hospital for 2-3 days (in case of complications!). We didn't like what we heard so we looked around for a 2nd opinion and found "Becker and Associates in Princeton and I had the surgery done at Penn Medicine, Princeton Medical Center, Princeton, NJ (the same hospital Dr. Samir Undavia has his office in). I was in/out the same day just like Becker and Associates said I would be and everything went fine! Had sinus surgery to correct recurring sinus issues. Initially thought all went OK because after essentially not being able to breath post-op, when you finally can breath again it feels great. After some time the problems are back with many new ones. Now have very frequent runny nose (never had that before), now get daily severe sneezing fits (never had that before), still get same recurring sinus issues but now I run fevers with the sinus issues (never had that before). If I could turn back time I would have never agreed to the sinus surgery. The Dr has a great personality, but results were horrible. read more

I've written a detailed review elsewhere, so this will be brief. Dr. Undavia went against my very explicit requests not to put in any grafts in my rhinoplasty. We agreed on it beforehand and went over it several times, there was no misunderstanding. Going against our plans was a violation of trust, and I feel betrayed. He put a graft that was not indicated in my case, is prone to causing irregularities, and will be difficult to remove. He did what I asked him NOT to do, and at the same time he did not perform the changes that I wanted. I much preferred the contours of my nose before my surgery with him, even though it was not perfect. After blaming poor results on swelling, Dr. Undavia made the situation much worse by injecting a steroid in my nose and causing skin atrophy and loss of pigmentation. He said the skin should completely recover in several months, but multiple sources say it very well may be permanent. I don't believe Dr. Undavia is genuine, and I think he is too busy self-promoting on social media to actually care for his patients. read more

But she wanted to have this surgery done. After the first consult, she was at peace and more eager to have the surgery than before. Background to Needing Surgery & Researching a Surgeon: I broke my nose four times earlier in life and had a septo/rhinoplasty to fix the issues back in 1999 and the previous doctor didn't really do a good job. I wasn't able to breathe like I imagined I would have, and the doctor actually created a physical deformity during the procedure. I was very weary in having the procedure done again as the breathing was marginally improved, and I was untrusting of any doctor to fix the physical deformity created and going through the process one more time. Unfortunately, I broke my nose again for a fifth time post the first procedure and this time a perforation in my septum was detected. I spoke to Dr. Chetan Shah about this several times over the next four to five years about how he believed I needed this to be fixed. Although, I trust Dr. Shah's advice I was really nervous about having to go through the process again until I was told that my sinuses were 80% blocked, and that was causing me to potentially have sleep apnea type issues. Again, Dr. Shah insisted I see Dr. Undavia; yet I decided that I would search around and talk to other surgeons first. I first went to see a personal college friend of mine that is a board certified plastic surgeon. He looked at my nose and was confident he could fix the septal deviation but upon seeing the perforation, he immediately and emphatically stated that he would not be able to complete the repair. His recommendation to me was that I only see Dr. Kridell in Houston, TX; as he was the one who 'authored the book' on septal perforation repairs OR to see someone who completed their training under the tutelage of Dr. Kridell. I still decided to visit a couple of surgeons in the MD/D.C. area as this is where I currently reside, and after two more consults I decided to come back full-circle to Dr. Undavia, as he was the only surgeon I could find that fit the criteria/recommendation of my trusted friend. Consult, Pre-Op, Surgery, and Post Op with Dr. Undavia: My first visit with Dr. Undavia put me at ease immediately. He was very friendly and understanding of my issues and concerns. I had asked him the following questions and he was happy to answer them to my satisfaction without rushing me to his next appointment: * How many septal perforations have you completed? * How many Rhinoplasty procedures have you completed? * How often do you do septal perforations? * How often is the perforation repair successful? * What methods are possible to fix the physical deformity created by the last surgery? * Will it look like I had a nose job? The next step was the pre-op visit in which Dr. Undavia reviewed my medical history to make sure there wouldn't be any complications with anesthesia. He also took pictures of my nose and put them into his software that replicates what your nose will realistically look like post-surgery. This was VERY reassuring as the other two surgeons including my friend didn't have this type of software. The initial consult, the pre-op, and the surgery all happened in a matter of three weeks, which to me is a stunning turn-around, especially over the holiday time period. I mentioned to Dr. Undavia that I had already met all of my insurance deductibles for the year so he would be doing me a huge favor if he could fit me in before the year ended. He responded with that his schedule was jammed but he would do his very best to make it happen and he was able to do so. The actual surgery went as expected and I saw Dr. Undavia every week for the first three weeks post-op. During every visit he asked me how I was feeling and asked if there was anything he could do to make me feel more comfortable. After three weeks, I needed to head back to the MD/D.C. area (I was staying with my folks in PA); Dr. Undavia gave me his cell phone number in case I needed to get in touch with him (since I would be far away), and accommodated my schedule for the remaining follow-up visits, since I would need to come back to NJ. Also, I want to note he gave me his email address as well and responded to several emails I had sent about some minor concerns within a 24 hour period. This is the first time I've ever had a doctor provide this type of access. Final Recommendation: Having gone through this procedure twice, I would highly recommend using Dr. Undavia and would be very confident that you would only have to go through the process once. My breathing is already 100% better then what it was before as I was completely blocked on my left side. I feel that part of it was due to the prior procedure not being done well, and the fact that I did break my nose again after the first procedure. I also am very happy with how he fixed the physical deformity and like the way my nose looks now.
