Mamuska - Polish Kitchen & Bar - Pierogis

Mamuska - Polish Kitchen & Bar

Came to eat dinner at Mamuska on a whim while looking for places around the Big Ben and did not…read moreregret it! Its short walk from the bridge and is situated in a cool, old fashioned bunker-looking type setting thats far away enough from the tourist chaos around the river Sienna walked us in and took great care of us. With a very pleasant and cheerful character, she made our meal quite a delight. Attentiveness, helpful suggestions and communication, and fun conversation really set her apart as a server during our time in the UK I got the Tower Temptation and the pork was cooked perfectly. The cheese and sauce/sausages from the stew really complimented the meat well. Fun fact: Mamuska has served the best slaw ive ever had, and im normally not a fan of cole slaw. You get a complimentary visit to their salad bar - its small and has 4 options but the slaw and carrots were simple yet somehow unmatched Despite being in the heart of London, the food here tasted authentic and this would be a place id recommend to others visiting London that want a break from classic English food! PS: their menu is hella cute (its a newspaper)

Polish food is a rarity back home, so I appreciate taking opportunities to visit Eastern European…read morerestaurants while traveling. Our server got us a table immediately because the restaurant is spacious. Then, we ordered pork gulasz and the mixed set of pierogis. It did take a long time for our orders to arrive because there was a logistical error on their side. The staff could've taken more of an initiative to communicate the delay. The pork gulasz, designated as a big plate, was a hearty stew with tender pieces of meat, mushrooms, and capsicum. For each order of a big plate or pierogi set, you get one visit to the salad bar. There, you can fill up a small plate with a small assortment of pickled vegetables. The mixed set of pierogis included pork, goat cheese with spinach, and sauerkraut with mushrooms fillings. I really enjoyed the boiled pierogis with their substantial fillings. For a nice experience with Polish food, I'd recommend visiting here. The newspaper menu is fun to read, and the atmosphere is good for big groups if needed. Multiple water closets are upstairs. This restaurant is also near major tourist attractions, including the London Eye and Westminster Bridge. It's also near Waterloo Station, a major transit hub connecting the South Bank to other parts of the city and country.

I normally wait two visits to review local places but my experience tonight was so negative that I…read moream unlikely to ever go back to Papu. I live a few minutes walk away and have been wanting to try it for ages since it looks very cute; with a sandwich board in front of the door advertising in Polish and English. The website lists a nice selection of Polish food, pizzas, and a couple of other things like the English Breakfast. The website is well put together with a menu in both Polish and English. Tonight I talked my husband into trying it out and we headed over at about 6:40, we sat down and started looking at the menu and the woman behind the counter brought over a second menu when she saw me looking around. After a couple of minutes we asked about the soup of the day and she had a man come out from the back who had better English, he told us the soup was cabbage and vegetables and the daily special was a nice sounding devilled egg and ground beef dish (possibly, I ordered it because I like trying new things). We got coffee and tea and chatted away while waiting for our food. The only other patron finished his meal and left. The woman started moping, which was a bit weird since the website states the closing time as 11pm (the door says 10pm) every night. Another ten minutes passed and she came by and cleared my husband's cup which had been sitting empty as we continued to wait. Finally at 7:15 she came up and dropped a bill for the drinks on the table. Seeing our confusion she basically told us repeatedly that they were closed. So after giving us dinner menus, talking about the specials, letting us order, and then letting us sit there like idiots for 30-40 minutes, Papu closed their doors between three to four hours early. Luckily Quality Kebab down the street is always fast and friendly because we were starving by this point.
