After seeing the NHS several times, I still did not get a diagnosis why I am unwell: constant…read morebloody nose, dizziness, sleepiness and itchy feet and palms. I have been recommended to Harley Street Health Centre by one of my colleagues. So I booked an appointment with Dr Abood. The consult lasted an hour, and included a chat about my symptoms, when they occur, ear & nose check, blood pressure and also had blood taken. Personally, even though I am in my mid 30's,I am really scarred of the needle, but the nurse was amazing. She distracted me by keeping my mind busy chatting, while she was drawing blood. Offered me water & advised to wait for couple of minutes before I leave. The whole experience was 5*. No rushing or looking at you like you are crazy because your palms & sole is itching at night, weirdly enough. So the next day I got my results. It was not as bad as I thought. Iron & Vitamin D deficiency. Something that can be fixed easily. So glad I went to the clinic, as my nose bleeds and itchyness have been haunting me for years. I am now taking my supplements & feeling much better. Will have another blood test done probably in 3-4 months.

I was lucky to find this lovely clinic in Harley Street which did exactly that and I've been visiting this place for the last 3 years. Would suggest it to anyone in and around the square mile.

We were lucky enough to get back to back appointments within 24 hours, however I would recommend blocking an appointment as soon as possible to get a timing convenient for you. The clinic is on the 5th floor of the building. (There is a lift) The reception area also sells some travel necessities like bug repellant, water purifying mechanisms etc. (Essential for countries with vaccination requirements) We are already kitted out, so I'm not sure about pricing vis-a-vis Boots etc. The nurse who saw us was friendly, polite and efficient. Appointments were at 15 minute intervals, but since we were a couple she took us in together and we were done in 20 minutes. Since we had already filled in the forms online, she just quickly ran through the vaccination requirements and recommended preventive medicines for the countries we were traveling to. Before giving us our shots. Quite an efficient system. Expensive (when compared to other countries we have for our shots at) but I guess that's the going rate in the UK.

Additionally once an appointment is made with the doctor, one is usually able to list his concerns with the doctor, who then gives the medical advice, perscription, or a referral to a specialist. oh, not the case with NHS. I understand that there is way too many people to a GP ratio, however i feel it is unacceptable for GPs to treat patients like they're cattle!!! Dr Silva who is one of the partners at the GP, can show complete disregard for what you are feeling, symptoms, or what treatment you have gone through, or ARE going through. In his book, you will probably start from "A" which is absolute nonsense. He is very rude, and inept with very little respect for his patients. Unfortunately the GPs that actually can be semi-helpful only work at this surgery once a week. Need to move on.

Our experience has been disastrous with doctors and nurses so incompetent that it is, sadly, sometimes comical. Recently a nurse recommended to cure a quite serious infection by drinking cranberry juice... we ignored the advice, went to see a private doctor who immediately gave antibiotics as it was so bad! It is really frustrating as with the GP system in the UK you have to go through the local medical centre first before being able to see a real one if you have the chance of having a medical cover. Complete waste of time (and public money) for most of our visits. If you live (or move) in the area there are other options available worth looking at. PS: Just to to them again (June08) about my daughter having an eye infection - Sorry we are full today, call back tomorrow at 8am, we cant give you an appointment for tomorrow nor garantee that there will be a doctor or nurse available.. helpful he?
