I got another specific appointment for a day they agreed was good to have it looked at and rectify (I have a Honda Accord '06). They came back saying everything from the refrigerant to the compressor need to be replaced and gave me a $925 quote! There was a separate quote with original parts which went up to $3000 I don't exactly remember the number. Needless to say, I took it to another place and they just replaced the refrigerant liquid and it seems to work absolutely fine. Unfortunate that they had to be dishonest about something so basic. Secondly, when they later confirmed that they could bill ICBC instead for my repairs so that I wouldn't actually have to pay anything out of pocket, they failed to do so somehow in the end (for which reasons were not provided) and did not take any responsibility for it. We ended up paying $450 out of pocket which was money that I definitely did not need to spend if they had properly handled my case. When I had confronted them about everything after (mostly confused with the situation and just looking for an explanation), the owner's son did not try to listen to my inquiries. Instead, he told me he will refund me, BUT I have to bring my car back so that he can break my glass again. HE WOULD ONLY PROVIDE A REFUND IF WE LET HIM BREAK OUR GLASS. He said "if I give you back the money and you don't let me break your glass, then we are idiots". He was extremely condescending and demeaning. I cannot believe that this business still exists if they treat their customers with absolutely no respect! Do not rely on them to do a proper job on your car - save the trouble and go elsewhere for better peace of mind!

My spidey senses said get a second opinion (as did telling a friend and having them say they wouldn't trust that) - I first looked online and saw that my car having had only 74,000kms, no sign of leaks and no feeling of the lunge forward that you hear about, made me start looking around for a trustworthy mechanic. I called two - and Wee was the first to say I should bring it by, and they'd have a look for free. Well, no real surprise when they said a test drive didn't indicate anything urgent, then when they hoisted it to look under, they said they didn't see anything concerning - apart from I will need new rear brakes soon - and did KalTire mention that? Um... NO. Anyway, he said to wait - the car will scream at me - either a screechy noise or squeal when it's time. (And intuitively, I'd been concerned about the brakes because it hasn't been stopping as cleanly as it used to, but they still work and don't make a noise of any kind). Anyway, he said he'd have to see what happens when they dismantle things but it will likely cost around $550 to get them done. Sounds reasonable... and I like how they think. Wee also showed me a few documents while I was there about struts - what to look for - how you know they need replacing etc. Definitely inspires my trust; I asked if he has a daughter - he said yes - my gut told me he did by the empathy and compassion he showed me. Haven't had anything done yet but I will be back. These guys are good guys my gut also tells me - I don't believe they intentionally rip anyone off regardless of other posts. :) Thank you Wee and staff!

The owner, Tony, reported the matter to the RCMP (File No. R124-28917). I was advised by the RCMP that if I paid the repair costs in full, the complaint would be withdrawn. With RCMP assistance, the full repair amount was paid on December 12, 2024. There has been no outstanding balance since that date. Despite full payment, Spike Automotive Ltd. has refused to discharge the repairer's lien on my vehicle and has demanded an additional $500 fee that was never agreed to or disclosed. Because the lien remains active, I have been unable to sell my vehicle. I have tried to resolve this matter reasonably, but the lien has still not been released. I am now pursuing formal dispute resolution. Based on my experience, I have serious concerns about their business practices and transparency Customers should be very cautious and ensure all terms and fees are clearly documented in writing before authorizing any repairs.

Here's what happened: On January 19th, my car was stalling, so I went to Vancouver Auto Centre (VAC) and got charged $175 for diagnosis fees (excluding change of plugs). I didn't question it, considering it an emergency fee due to the short notice. Between January 19th and February 13th, I only drove the car for four days, fearing more expenses, and started using an electric bike instead. On February 13th, the car stopped, requiring a boost from BCAA. Then, on February 15th, the car started stalling again, and I took it to All Care Auto, recommended by a friend, who changed the alternator and battery for $867. As it turned out, an alternator problem caused more issues than initially apparent. VAC charged a hefty $175 for diagnosis, excluding labour hours, which should have identified the alternator issue, potentially saving my $600, excluding three hours of my time. Such a diagnosis is usually applied when standard procedures fail to pinpoint the problem. I've learned the hard way about garage practices. I discussed it with VAC, but they said they would not charge me the diagnostic fees again if I went back!! how funny!! They would charge me more than All Care auto did and might not fix the problem in the second place. Given the nature of my job, finding a reliable mechanic around downtown Vancouver for immediate assistance seems challenging. While I can't vouch for All Care Auto beyond this one experience, as I have used them only once, they have a good online reputation.
