Jipijapa: Yellow fin Tuna in leche de tigre with scallions, peanuts, cucumbers and avocado
    Melissa C.

First, our server Dagmari was incredible in suggesting what to try. She was lovely, friendly, welcoming and spot on with all of her recommendations. With her help, we ordered the following to share between 4 people: Caldo e Pescao and the Jipijapa which were two of our absolute favorites of the night. The crispy friend bacalao was one of the best I've ever had and the Jipijapa was a Peruvian style ceviche that was so fresh and light. The steak was amazing and it came with a mountain of fries. The Allo Scoglio was tasty and a smaller plate, but in combination with everything we could not have ordered more food. Lastly, Dagmari raved about the bread pudding and she was soo right that it was worth sharing. It was light and not overly sweet! We went on a Wednesday evening and it was a chill, calm, and relaxing environment. If you are in Luquillo, would definitely recommend! Thank you again Dagmari! It was a pleasure to meet you!

We did a quick yelp search after a snorkeling excursion and found Sama. It didn't look like much from the outside but upstairs it was very charming. They squeezed us in and we had an incredible dinner! We tried the sama, ceviche, shrimp tostada and the cauliflower vegan meal. Everything was fantastic.

Absolutely delicious meal. I could eat several servings of the the beets with goat cheese salad. Everything was flavor packed and the service was fantadtic. The view of the beach was also perfect. Definitely recommend if you want a delicious dinner and good service. Recommend you make reservations.

Sea Breeze Even Upstairs: (The Atlantic Across The Street)

Sama came highly recommended while staying in Luquillo, Puerto Rico and made it our first stop for dinner after arriving in town. Although we didn't catch a view of the ocean since we came about 8 pm or so, the sound of crashing waves in the background and the salty ocean air added a wonderful touch to the evening. The beach is just across the street and you can feel it even when you can't see it. The restaurant is tucked next to a hotel- though not sure if they're owned by the same person. You come here through side entrance and head upstairs to the dining area. It's unique setup: the space has a tin ceiling but no windows, which has this natural cross-breeze happening and an open, airy feel. It's casual yet elevated. Our server was a whipper-snapper: young, enthusiastic, and very attentive, which we appreciated. Since we were still pretty full from a hefty lunch right after landing, we kept it light and decided to share the seafood tower, paired with a Prosecco for me and a classic piña colada for my husband. By looks of it, the tower was impressive: loaded with a lobster tail, prawns, oysters, and clams. Definitely plenty for 2. But for the $130 price tag, we were hoping for a bit more quality. The lobster meat was tough, and rubbery. The oysters weren't properly detached from the shell making them awkward to eat and taking away from that smooth, briny slurp we were hoping for. While the portion was generous, the tower missed the mark. Still, Mike (owner?) was beyond amazing and hospitable.

The food was amazing! My husband and I sat at the bar and had great service. Restaurant is open to the ocean and temperature felt amazing. The elote was delicious, the beet salad was so good with the goat cheese and the fish dish we had was so flavorful! Our drinks were just ok. Would 100% recommend to anyone coming to Luquillo.

Definitely give Sama a go if you're in town. We stopped by after reading all the rave reviews and loved our lunch here. We dropped in at 11:30 on a weekday, it was pretty quiet around the time which was really nice. They have a great view of the beach and there's a nice breeze blowing the whole time. Service was fantastic! We tried the eloite ribs and clams in white wine sauce with pancetta. I LOVED the clams. So delicious and beautifully presented. The drinks were excellent - I particularly liked the spritz. Dessert - cheesecake - excellent. I would for sure come back here again. The ambiance, service, and food are all worth it.

To anyone reading this: if youre looking for restaurants to go to in PR, COME HERE IMMEDIATELY. This was by far the best meal of my entire trip. My bf chose this place for a nice dinner one night, it was very close to our airbnb so we walked over and checked it out. At first, I was confused. Its location was somewhat hidden away, you have to go through part of a hotel and walk up a staircase. It was also dark so I had no idea where we were. When we walked in, I immediately loved the layout. There is a beautiful view out to the ocean, real candles (not those stupid plastic ones) on every table, and warm inviting lighting. Our waitress was very friendly and provided good service. When looking at the menu, I was skeptical again. There were dishes from all around the world, there was really no theme. Little did I know I would soon be blown away. Drinks/apps: we both got cocktails, Despertar En Luquillo and Buscando Guayaba. Mine came in THE CUTEST pig cup... I almost exploded from joy. I have never ever seen something like this. Need one in my house immediately. The guava drink was strong, mine was perfect and light, it even had some fruits floating inside. I miss that piggy. For apps we had calamari which came with some fried fish pieces, shrimp, and thin zucchini slices all of which melt in your mouth with the tar tar sauce. The beet salad was wonderful as well, goat cheese with beets, strawberries and cherry tomatoes created something wonderful in my mouth. Entrees: I was in a steak mood so I chose the Picanha, which I read is a cut of meat from the top of a cows rump. The more you know! This meat was so juicy, cooked just like I asked, topped with fresh-tasting chimichurri to go with every bite. It came with cassava root on the side, which I still think about to this day. It was crispy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. It was even a bit juicy from being fried, with oil spilling into your mouth as you ate it. My bf went for the steak frites which was absolutely delicious as well, the mountain of fries it came with was funny to me at first, but when I tried one I found myself reaching for another, then another.... Dessert: We were really full. Like it was painful. Safe to say we got dessert! Coconut cloud looks and tastes exactly as you would think; light, airy whipped cream with some mint and lemon zest topping coconut ice cream. It came in such a beautiful dish too, looking very ethereal. What a great way to finish our dinner. Anyway. I want to close out by saying we ascended to heaven, saw god and came back. We were fundamentally changed after this meal. There was a couple sitting near us and they were also very impressed as well. I have no complaints. TL;DR: cause I know ppl aint reading allat. If you are close to Luquillo or in it at any point, it is your duty to come here. Everything is good. Maybe you will receive your cocktail in the blessed pig cup, just like me.

The service was great, incredible view and nice ambiance with the restaurant being upstairs and the perfect ocean view. Unfortunately the food is giving mixed vibes, in ordered their oyster special ceviche and immediately got sick . The vidalia ash carpaccio was decent but had way too much lemon aioli so I had to order bread to balance out the flavors. Their local green salad was okay, dressing could have used some more citrus to balance out the heartiness of the greens. Worth a try, I would just be mindful of third fish dishes.

    Fun craft cocktails

If you're dining in Luquillo, this is the spot to choose! The vibe here is unmatched! (We loved it so much we ate here twice in one week--our first night on vacation and again with family for our final night!) The atmosphere is authentic, open-air, beachside, and upscale. The ceviche, coconut mahi, Jipijapa, and Branzino were highlights we couldn't get enough of! Don't skip this place! The second-floor ocean view pairs perfectly with their craft cocktails, rivaling the incredible food. And the service? The staff went above and beyond, catering to our every need.

Food and drinks were amazing! We appreciate you accommodating us without a reservation. It made for a great birthday!

The best food with the best bartender and the best view!!! What a wonder experience! The Sama Spritz was very refreshing. Ceviche and elote spears were both fantastic.

Excellent food, great service. Sam's is the whole reason I write reviews for Yelp; restaurants like Sama are so dang special! My husband and I are staying at the hotel next door and went here in a whim. It was only after we ate here that I saw the other stellar reviews. We didn't have a reservation, so we sat at the bar and had attentive and amazing service from our bartenders, who called us "family" from the start. They gave us amazing recommendations! I had the beet salad to start and my husband had the mahi mahi ceviche. My salad was probably the best bites I've had while in PR. The salad was light, flavorful, and surprising. Who knew to put beets, goat cheese, strawberries, blueberries, and piqueno peppers on a plate with a delicious balsamic to bring it all together? I had the veal ragout and my husband had the picanha for our main meals. My husband's favorite bites in PR were in this picanha dish. It had all different flavors and textures. Nevermind the fact that the restaurant overlooks Luquillo Beach and has a beautiful view! Just....wow. We felt just like our bartender called us-family. What a special meal!

Our party of 6 is in Puerto Rico to celebrate 2 birthdays, and we wanted to do a nice dinner one night so we booked Sama. To start with, the views were unbeatable - right on the water. The service was top notch - our waiter, Luis (sp?), was fantastic! The manager came by periodically to ensure everything was good (it was!). The food was phenomenal - our group got the veal Ragu, picanha, steak, halibut, branzino, and seafood tower. It was all so good. The only small critique I could add is that while the seafood tower was delicious, we would recommend skipping it due to the price for the amount of food you receive. Overall, highly recommend if you are visiting this area of PR!

First, the bacalaíta was a bit greasy, but the flavor and crispy outside was excellent. I could always go for a bit more cod, but a little of their spicy pique made up for it. The pique (hot sauce or hot vinegar) reminded me of a spicy sofrito. There was a lot of fresh cilantro and pepper flavor which complemented the seafood we ordered. The picada mariscos or seafood appetizer platter was perfect for a late afternoon dinner. It was a generous helping of battered fish nuggets, stuffed seafood tostones, mixed seafood cocktail, and coconut shrimp. I think you can order any seafood in the plantains or cocktail, and we tried the mixed with shrimp, octopus, and conch. At $30, it can easily start a table of 4 as an appetizer, or 2 normal appetites fire dinner. We should have known better and stopped there. No, we ordered the shrimp and octopus mofongo in Creole sauce. As expected, the Creole sauce was a tomato base and absolutely awesome. It was by and far my favorite dish of the week, although my guy prefers the silky soft trifongo at Edelweiss in the kiosks. The server/bartender saw us struggle to get through the massive amount of food and took pity on us. She comped a couple of shots of a tasty orange elixir, and like magic we could eat more. Still, we took a box home with us that is enough for a meal on it's own. Crío Mar was a win for us today. Be warned though, food is made to order so expect a wait for anything ordered from the kitchen. If you just want a snack, like other kioskos they have frituras in a case to take away with your rum punch. Speaking of that, I overhead a patron who came in after us say "this is better than the other place," in reference to said punch. Also, this isn't your high-faluttin' crab house back home. Napkins are paper and while the restroom is free to diners, they charge $1 for use by the public. If language is an issue for you, you'll have no problem. Our server barely had an accent and the owner spoke fantastic English.
